This is a continuation of the thread called "Ron Wealsey--There seems to be a lot of Ron bashing," which can be found here.
What qualities about Ron make him heroic? Or indispensable? Or annoying? Or a third wheel? From the first post in the original thread: QUOTE(the_purple_pheonix @ Jul 23 2005, 11:40 AM) I've noticed several posts where people are expressing their dislike of Ron Weasley. They say he's useless, and that the only redeeming quality he has is that he's loyal to Harry. I've also seen the word annoying used. Personally I'm a big fan of Ron - but I realize that I can't really say why. I suppose it IS his loyalty that makes me love him - I also think he's pretty hilarious (but then that could be the actor that plays him so brilliantly in the movies that I find so funny). What are your thoughts? Is Ron simply superfluous? Or could we not live without him? So, tell us what you think Ron's best (or worst) qualities are! Happy posting! Weasle Diva
QUOTE Ron, after having a crush on Hermione, finally gave up and started dating other people. He still cared for Hermione, but if you can't be with the one you love, honey, love the one you are with. He was convinced that Hermione would never like him in a romantic way. He is one of those overly passionate Weasleys, so you can only wait so long. Didn't Hermione ask Ron to Slughorn's party? I thought what set him off was finding out that Hermione had kissed Viktor Krum two years earlier.-------------------- Finite incantatem! |

She sincerely thought he used a luck potion at the Quidditch game. She sincerely thought that he couldn't have done that well on his own. So he thought she sincerely couldn't ever see him as a "victor," a person worthy of her. Also, he thought that she lied to him about her relationship with Victor. I think he decided that the Slughorn invite was just her giving him a "pity" date.

Okay, here are my views:
Bad Traits: The first bad thing that entered my mind is being coward most of the times. One thing is his abuse as an authority (he's being prefect and calling the first years as midgets, but honestly I find it funny Good traits: I agree with most of you that he is loyal to Harry no matter what. He's also funny and can make some serious scenes be funny scenes. Plus, his jokes make the story interesting and fun to read. Most of the times, he knows when to be serious and when to crack a joke. He also helps Harry with his problems and all. -------------------- ![]() Lemon drops, anyone? |

I personally think that alot of the time when people bash Ron it's because they don't like the R/Hr ship so they fish around for any and every negative trait he has and point them out.

While I`m still not a fan of ron because of how he treated Hermione in POA with sheet shake and yell in front of house. , food party freeze out, and failure to listen to hagrid`s correct perspective that he should his friend more than rats. I`ve just finished rereading the series and must say now feel that ron can be respected. Although I still feel that valuing a pet more than a friend is a sin I also came both to sympathize with and respect Ron. I can sympathize with Ron`s jealousy in GOF and his insecurites about Qudditch in OOTP because rereading reminded me more about his background and history much of which i`d lost track in my anger over POA More importantly I`ve come to respect Ron after rereading beccause of how he . Helped harry with the Third task Preperation, Fouhght with and for harry in the Department of Mysteries and at Hogwarts on the night Dumbledore died. Stood by Harry after learning the propecy, Vowed to stay with harry at the end of HBP. among other things. I set aside my bias when I reread and came to respect Ron(I`d become too judgemental overall about one item.) but still not a fan of his. I`ve now chosen to reserve my final judgement on Ron till I`ve read HP7.

Well my favourite character has always been Ron. Having said that, I have an uneasy feeling that Voldemort will either simply kill him in the 'final showdown' when he refuses to leave Harry's side, or will be killed before, maybe by a death eater. I have no idea why I believe this, but I think Hermione will survive for sure and that Harry will probably live.
Having said that, I hope I am wrong so that Hermione and Ron can finally get together without any of the two dying at the end of it all. I'm definitely now just barbling on, but does anybody else see what I'm trying to get at? |

I used to think Ron was a dead cert for death in book 7, particularly after JKR said that there was one really traumatic death coming up, but now I'm not so sure. I agree that someone needs to be killed before the end to spur Harry on into the final showdown with Voldemort and give him the courage to actually confront and defeat him, but I think that's happened now in book 6 and we might be safe. I really really don't want Ron to die, he needs to go off into the sunset at the end with Hermione for a happy post-Voldemort future! Pleeeeeease!

I still think Ron may die..I have a feeling Hermione won't and I don't care if Harry dies( as long as Voldie dies with him).. too tired about debating whether or not harry dies, but Ron,I'm uneasy as well..i don't think i could manage it if he dies.. when JKR said she just killed somebody in an articlel(sorry if I'm wrong)or that she's going to,I instantly thought either Ron or Hagrid.. I never understood why there are Ron bashers..maybe the shipping thing explains some of it to me now.. -------------------- To days of inspiration, playing hookie, making something out of nothing, the need to express, to communicate, to going against the grain. going insane, going mad!" -Mark Cohen(RENT)
