Although he can be a bit thick-headed at times, Ron is one of my favorite characters in the books. He brings a lot of humor to sort of balance Hermione's seriousness.
One of my friends, who's a literature professor, once pointed out that in the books, Hermione is almost always right especially when she is researching, but Ron is almost always right whenever he's joking or making fun of a certain situation. As I was re-reading the CoS last night, I came upon this passage: QUOTE “I wish I knew why someone did try to chuck it,” said Harry. “I wouldn't mind knowing how Riddle got an award for special services to Hogwarts either.” “Could've been anything,” said Ron. “Maybe he got thirty O.W.L.S. or saved a teacher from the giant squid. Maybe he murdered Myrtle; that would've done everyone a favor...” This was referring to Tom Riddle. And he was right! :) I can't find other passages yet, some of you guys might be able to help. If you find any, please post them. :D Also, we know that Hermione has been instrumental in helping Harry get through his challenges, especially because of her extraordinary skills and knowledge. I'm curious to know in what ways do you guys think have Ron contributed to Harry's heroic journey, and how has he, as sidekick and bestfriend, shaped or influenced Harry's choices and his personality? -------------------- |
