So I was re-reading book six this week and just thought I would post this and get some opinions.
When in potions class they smell the love potion and Hermione is telling Slughorn about what she smells and she stops after "It smells like grass, new parchment.." and becomes red in the face (obviously from smelling what reminder her of Ron) I can't get this thought out of my head. I wonder what the SMELL of Ron is? ya know? lol For that matter.. any ideas what Ron smelled when he breathed in the "love potion". Its things like this that make me wish we could hear their thoughts AND not just Harry's! Hermione turned faintly pink, but merely said, "Don't let Lavener hear you saying that." ~HBP

I never thought that Hermione was blushing from having thoughts about Ron in this scene. I felt that she was just becoming suddenly aware that she was revealing herself to the class. To have just told a class (though small) that she loves parchment maybe was just crossing her mind and she decided she'd better be quiet before she said something more regretful.
But...as she had gone from parchment to grass, maybe she was recalling a quiet stroll around the grounds with Victor and didn't want to bring that up. |

QUOTE(jenbrooke @ Jan 4 2007, 01:46 PM) I never thought that Hermione was blushing from having thoughts about Ron in this scene. Yeah but she didn't love Victor and with Harry he smelled Ginny. I thought they would smell things and people they loved? -------------------- "I love you, Hermione." said Ron, sinking back into his chair, rubbing his eyes wearily. I think that in the movie GoF it was described more as kind of a fun thing for Hermione to hang out with Victor, but she kind of joked about it with Harry. I don't think that this aspect was really present in the books though.
I seem to recall that Ron teased Hermione about being pen pals with Victor in OotP, indicating that they did keep in touch and that Ron was upset that she actually still liked this guy. I don't see any more in her romantic relationship with Ron than in that she had with Victor, aside from the fact that with Ron there's been a friendship there for years longer than with Victor. In fact, I think there's less that we've yet seen on the Ron front really. |

Ron smells like dirt. He is from The Burrow.
-------------------- "Hey, Harry, there are brains in here, ha ha ha, isn't that weird, Harry?"
"Minerva, kindly go down to Hagrid's house, where you will find a large black dog sitting in the pumpkin patch. Take the dog up to my office, tell him I will be with him shortly, then come back here." |

I think it was the perfume Ron gave to her in OotP that she smelt not Ron.
-------------------- "We'll be there, Harry," said Ron.
"What?" "At your aunt and uncle's house. And then we'll go with you, wherever you're going." |

*puts on modly hat*
This is a reminder not to get into a shipping debate [cause we all know its Ron who Hermione loves. *takes hat off* I dont think that Hermione would have smelled the perfume Ron got her because she would just be smelling herself. Much like Harry smells Ginny (the unknown flowery scent from the Burrow) there must be some kind of scent that Hermione identifies with Ron. I am almost thinking of an outdoorsey, spicy scent -- not anything gross, and that is what causes her to blush. -------------------- |

What a delightful question! ^_^
I think Ron probably smells like something so subtle that we wouldn't be able to identify it definitively from the text (on the grounds that Hermione is no doubt in more of a position and inclination to smell Ron on a regular basis than Harry is). I would predict that it's the Weasely family's laundry soap or something like that. Maybe Pigwidgeon's owl treats. -------------------- 'Now, we'll go upstairs really quietly, and wait for Mum to call us for breakfast. Then, Ron, you come bounding down the stairs going, "Mum, look who turned up in the night!" and she'll be all pleased to see Harry and no one need ever know we flew the car.'

My guess: chocolate gateau. For Ron, I think it's like treacle tart is for Harry. What do you think?

that's a good question; I wondered about it too when I read it. I think Hermione probably smells something associated with the Burrow similar to Harry's smell of Ginny. the flowery scent Harry associated with Ginny could mean perfume or soap like Snark said so maybe it's something like that for Hermione too.
