In Jo's Book Nook we've read and discussed our way through a lot of the books recommended by JKR - see here for previous discussions. We're already committed to reading books from JKR's list during June - August but at some point we're going to run out and we've been thinking about the way forward when we get to the end of the list. So, in September, as a trial, we would like to run a Book Nook discussing a book recommended by Leaky members. We will collect a list of nominations and when we feel we have enough we'll start a poll to vote for September's book.

So, if you would like to nominate a book (please don't post yet to support other people's nominations - we'll get to that later) please copy, paste and complete the template below and post it in this thread. Any posts that don't answer all the questions from 1 - 6c will not be included in the final poll.

Only one book per member please,
if you post more than one only the first one will be included unless you PM one of the Nook mods to ask us to remove your earlier nomination.

1) Title: Artemis Fowl

2) Author: Eoin Colfer

3) Is it part of a series? Yes

4) How widely is it published around the world? Widely I think

5) Is the content PG-13? Yes

6) Give at least three topics that you think would attract discussion (you can give more than three if you wish)

6a (the inevitable compare & contrast question lol) Described by the author as Die Hard with Fairies, how does Eoin Colfer's magical world compare to & differ from the Potterverse? Does seeing Colfer's world through the eyes of a non-magical character influence our impression of it?

6b) A discussion / character analysis about Artemis Fowl who is a criminal mastermind, he uses his vast wealth & intellect in an effort to exploit the magical world, with no concern for whether he indirectly destroys that world or its people yet he's the *hero* of the story.

6c) A dicussion of Colfer's evocative fast paced writing style packed full of imagery.

6d) Favorite character biggrin.gif

Optional extra info:

If you answered Yes to Question 3, is the series complete yet? No

Any other comments: I love this series, & AF is the only book other than HP or LOTR that I've ever re-read. read.gif I think it's amazingly well written, I love the storyline, Colfer's writing in my opinion is awesome, it's *yet another* book about a magical world yet is totally unique in its own right, the world Colfer's creative is distinctive & fascinating, & AF & his entourage bring a whole other dimension into the story, too cool.gif
