The Shipping News...In Potterverse Love, romance, obsession. We see them all in Potterverse! Love is at the very core of HP as an unrivaled force. Learned witches and wizards study it, secret MoM rooms are devoted to it, Harry is saved by it, several characters die for it and nearly everyone knows it power. Perhaps none, however, have analyzed it as closely as Leaky members who "shipped"! (And, hand on heart, isn't that part of what makes HP so captivating?) So, dive headlong into shipping once more as we see it in canon and share the aspect of love and shipping which most touched your heart! - Which ships in HP canon do you see as most demonstrating the power of love? - Which ships did you find most showed love's obsessive nature? - Which ships were the most unexpected? - Shipping and you: - which character over the course of the series did you most come to love? Why? - what message about love did you take away from the HP experience? This post has been edited by fidelia: Feb 13 2008, 09:21 PM -------------------- *thanks, twiddlethosedials, for the siggy* |

Absolutely the most beautiful example of love in the HP books, for me, is Molly and Arthur!
As far as obsessive love, I am going to go with either Merope for Tom Riddle Sr., or of course Severus for Lily. I think Snape's love for Lily only became obsessive, however, after she died- but I know that point can be argued differently. Tonks and Remus was totally unexpected for me. I found no hint of it all in the books and am not even sure I feel any chemistry there- even though I like each character individually. I wish we knew a little more about this relationship, because sometimes it borders on obsessive to me- Tonks for Remus- but I suppose we have to accept that there is more to their becoming a couple- but we couldn't see it from Harry's point of view. Well if love means picking someone up, putting them in your pocket because they are so adorable, and bringing them home to take care of them for the rest of your life because you are so proud of all of their accomplishments and enamored with their heroism, than I am going to go with Neville. Ah yes then there is the 'Love from a distance' that Gladys Gudgeon had for me, which while quite flattering for a while, became rather, well, obsessive.

I think one of the greatest things about Harry Potter is how it showed different types of relationships, whether it be romantic or friendship.
- Which ships in HP canon do you see as most demonstrating the power of love? Ron & Hermione and Molly & Arthur. Ron & Hermione. Of course, it takes a long time for them to express their love for each other, but throughout the series they end up doing many things out of love. Ron researches information for Buckbeak's trial so Hermione can do her massive amounts of homework. Ron goes into the Forbidden Forest to speak to a giant talking spider because he needs to save a petrified Hermione. Actually, I'm not sure what Hermione's done to help Ron. Oh, well. Molly and Arthur. They show that they still love each other after so many years of marriage and seven years. Arthur still calls Molly "Mollywobbles." They're still affectionate. They haven't forgotten what love is. - Which ships did you find most showed love's obsessive nature? SNAPE AND LILY! This is all from Snape's side, but he shows how obsessive he is over his love for Lily and how he can't get past her marrying James. - Which ships were the most unexpected? Harry and Ginny was unexpected, though I realize it shouldn't have been. Tonks and Lupin came out of the blue for me. - Shipping and you: - which character over the course of the series did you most come to love? Why? Ron Weasley. I find that I relate to him more than any other character in literature. I understand his faults. He seems so real, like he can really be found (minus the magic) in the real world. - what message about love did you take away from the HP experience? Love is the most powerful thing. -------------------- ![]() Win-gar-dium Levi-o-sa Ron Weasley: He Does it Anyway. |

- Which ships in HP canon do you see as most demonstrating the power of love? Although I agree with leakylurker, that Molly and Arthur's love is the warmest sustained throughout the series, I suspect that the love between James and Lily Potter (once James "got over" himself) might have been equally wonderous... and it did have an incredible impact on their entire Wizarding World!
And, blue4t, I loved your examples of Ron's love for Hermione. I knew from their first bickering times together that those two were destined for one another (and I called Ginny/Harry in Book 2) - Which ships did you find most showed love's obsessive nature? It kind of floored me to be reminded in a recent re-read of Slugghorn's warning against obsessive love! I think Merope's love for Tom Riddle was more an infatuation and craving for escape than a true obssession. The ugliest obsessive love in the series seems to be Bellatrix's devotion to the Dark Lord. Severus Snape did deeply love Lily. We know that now for sure; some suspected it earlier. His not being able to "move on" when the love wasn't returned and his earlier inability to nurture a relationship with her was so sad to me. - Which ships were the most unexpected? hmm... as I said, the Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione weren't surprising to me... so I guess I have to agree that the Tonks/Lupin was unexpected, but like the Bill/Fleur ship... it made sense to me in retrospect. - Shipping and you: - which character over the course of the series did you most come to love? Why? I loved the Trio from the start... and Ginny a delight and Neville was a dear. It was Luna who "grew" on me. By the time I "saw" the ceiling of her bedroom (links of friendsfriendsfriends)... well, I loved then too! (I'm also verrrry partial to Arthur Weasley!) -------------------- mokey's blessing:

Erm...I don't know, maybe Lily and James then. James was appearantly willing to go from a prat to a decent guy for her, and Lily was open enough to see that. Plus, they went out of their ways to protect Harry and died for him. I love that pair...All time fave. - Which ships did you find most showed love's obsessive nature? Snape > Lily and Ginny > Harry. Oh and Merope > Tom. Maybe a tad in Tonks > Lupin too. Love is ALWAYS obsessive, if you ask me ;) - Which ships were the most unexpected? Well...the only that I wasn't expecting was Bill/Fleur. The thought never hit me. But I love it anyway. George/Angelina was a bit shocking too. - Shipping and you: Erm I'm not sure what this means. I...have shipped a bit. I was, and still am, a devoted supporter of Harry/Luna and Ginny/Colin. - which character over the course of the series did you most come to love? Why? Oh...Lupin. It's a tough call between him and Sirius... Because...what can I say, he was just so nice and I'm a big fan of nice. Nice is very underappreciated. -------------------- ![]() Galileo, Galileo, will you do the fandango? Thunderbolt! Lightning, and very very frightening. Donner, Blitzen, cabaret schnitzen. Ron and Hermione. I am actually a D/Hr shipper, but through out the books it became clear that they loved each other and would clearly go to the end of the earth and back for one an other. - Which ships did you find most showed love's obsessive nature? My favorite ship: Snape and Lily. He had an obsessive and possessive love for Lily. It is understandable since she was the only one who seemed to care about him when they were younger. - Which ships were the most unexpected? Lupin/Tonks. It just came out of no where and there is no chemistry. Also Dumbledore and Grindelwald, although I am all for that ship. - Shipping and you: Um I am a huge Snape/Lily and Draco/Hermione shipper - which character over the course of the series did you most come to love? Why? Snape. He has been my favorite since book one. There was something about his character that always interested me. I knew that Snape was good and had a feeling that he had a thing for Lily after OoTP. He is one of the most intriguing literary characters I have ever read about. - what message about love did you take away from the HP experience? Loving people for who they are and not what they seem to be. Also that love is the most powerful feeling in the world. -------------------- I know it's only a story, but for so many it's more than that.
