My first thought was Where in the name of Merlin's most baggy Y Fronts is his moustace! but i ended up voting Although different from the book, he looks good as Slughorn, the look is fine, especially the second picture he really looks like he has the attitude right, so here's hoping the acting is up to scratch too

I voted for Although different from the book, he looks good as Slughorn. I think that Jim Broadbent will make a good Slughorn. He was my second choice next to Bob Hoskins. He looks eccentric enough and I know that Broadbent can adequately portray his rumbunctious character.

There is an HBP day-planner/calendar coming out in the fall that has this image of Broadbent as Slughorn, and except for the mustache, he looks pretty much as I imagined (much rounder here than in the other images we've seen!
You can see it a bit bigger here in the TLC Galleries. -------------------- |

You can definitely tell he is wearing a fat suit in that picture. His robes look like they are made of tweed to me. Quite professorial. Ooh that last picture decided it for me. He is good as Slughorn although different from book.
He really does need to be chubby (because of all the crystallised pineapple he has eaten!) But he does not need to be bald or have a moustache. I agree with others that Bob Hoskins would have been my obvious choice based on the book description. -------------------- I went to the midnight reading!

I agree with Hagiographer13 that this calander image of Slughorn, which is seen a bit closer here:
![]() Which you can see larger in the galleries here does indeed show the "roundness" I was looking for in the character of Slughorn. Maybe they can photoshop a mustache on him in post-production? -------------------- |

There is an awesome new interview with Jim Broadbent with the LA Times on-line. In it he discusses his approach to the character of Slughorn and how excited he was to join the panoply of stars that have graced the HP films.
QUOTE "It's wonderful to be part of this now, to come in at this stage, because they've got it running so smoothly now, it's amazing to see," said the 59-year-old Broadbent, whose screen career dates to 1978. "In the first one, I'm sure there was a bit of nervousness about whether it would all work, but now it's a unique position to be in, to be making a blockbuster without a lot of nervousness. It's hugely beneficial for the creativity to have a great deal of certainty about the process and the success." Broadbent . . . calls Slughorn "a good man, a decent man, but a weak man . . ." Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opens in the US July 17th. -------------------- |

He certainly seems to have the grasp of the character! I was fascinated to read his impressions of the first movie compared to the book (which he seems to have read). nimbus xl said it best for me: "I said it before and I'll say it again, I don't really care if the character looks exactly like the canon character or not, as long as he/she behaves like the character JKR wrote then I can imagine that actor as that character" -------------------- Avatar by tonksgirl |

As noted on Leaky Main there are a couple new images of Slughorn available on-line. This one just cracks me up!
He looks just the eensiest bit dotty here--and I love it! -------------------- |
