On this Nov. 11, Remembrance Day in Canada, I think (as I have every Remembrance Day for many, many years) of my favourite "war" song. It is "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda", written by Eric Bogle in 1971.

This song, more than any other I 've heard, brings to light the horrors of war as experienced by those who fight them. Athough this particular story is told from the point of view of an Australian veteran who fought in the disastrous Battle of Gallipoli in 1915, it applies to every armed conflict (both within a nation and between nations) and to all who fight in them.

I won't reprint the lyrics to "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" here for two reasons. First, I am extremely aware of copyright restrictions (and, for personal reasons, am totally in favour of them). Secondly, the words to this powerful song are disturbing, gruesome even, as they should be considering the subject matter. Therefore I leave it up to each individual reading this to decide if she or he wishes to see or hear this song for themselves. Believe me, it is extremely easy to Google this info.

Another Jeff Buckley song, this time Dream Brother. I haven't even been listening to the album much lately, so I don't know why it's in my head.

Vermillion Part 2 (Bloodstone Mix) - Slipknot. I love this song, and I'm not surprised it's stuck in my head, considering I'm nearly always listening to it. smile.gif

High and Mighty Colour - Dreams

It won't leave my head no matter what. I like it but it is getting a bit annoying.

"Defying Gravity" from Wicked is stuck in my head right now. I hadn't heard it in ages, then one of my friends mentioned it and now it's stuck in my head. At least it's a good song! biggrin.gif

ginevrapotter07, someone in my bio class was singing that right before we went into our lab the other day so I was humming it almost the entire time because it got stuck in my head. It is really one of the catchiest songs I've heard in a while and the only song by Miley Cyrus I can stand.

Right now, however, I have Fireflies by Owl City stuck in my head. I really enjoy their music, so I enjoy this. smile.gif
