I have a quick question: about what size (diameter) dowel rod do you recommend? When I shopped for dowels the packs I found of pre-cut ones came in several diameters, all of which I think would make good wands. I think it will come down to personal preference. I think mine are 7mm or so, though. This post has been edited by Quietish: May 1 2008, 09:04 AM -------------------- Rosemary

I'm looking for an ebony wood finish. There's always black craft paint but do you have any idea if it could be obtained with the staining technique?

I'm looking for an ebony wood finish. There's always black craft paint but do you have any idea if it could be obtained with the staining technique? I suggest that you go to a local home improvement or hardware store that carries wood stain products and look at the wood hues they have available. It seems to me that there are many more hues out today than there were a few years ago; when I go to Lowe's or Home Depot, the range of stain products makes my head spin! -------------------- Avatar by tonksgirl |

If you find a black stain, Mary, you might try having a piece of clay that you've already let dry to test how the clay takes the stain.

have a question about the supplies? Hi For the purpose of the craft-along do you have to use the dowel rods or can you substitute something else? I was thinking of using a small tree branch and removing the bark, and then following the guide procedure for the handle. Would that be ok? I wouldn't be disqualified from participating would I? -------------------- |

Yay! Thanks Quietish! I'll have pictures as soon as possible. I'm really excited, the tree I took the branch from is one my mam bought for charity(it was only a twig at the time) when she was pregnant with me, so it's always been "my" tree, but it' actually a silver birch and birch is the tree that corresponds to my birth date based on the wand information Jo has on her website here

That's really cool! By all means, you should use the branch

Branch idea sounds sooooo beautiful!
I had regular baking clay...according to the GREAT instruction video, I can't use it. I went to get "model magic". Air dries. Hoping that works. -------------------- ![]() DragonFairy |
