This is a bit off topic....but I also found it interesting Snape's mother (Prince) was at Hogwarts at the same time as Riddle. I mean, the potions book (HBP) was fifty years old as well.
Has it ever been mentioned whether Snape could speak parseltongue? It does make one wonder, if Eileen (sp) was good in the dark arts as well...they did have the witch mother/muggle father thing in common....curious.
