The Silver Chair features some fascinating (not to mention downright dangerous in some cases!) locations ~ if you were travelling in the lands around Narnia, where would you choose to go and why?
Here's a recap of some of the lands we see: East Marshes Home to the Marsh-wiggles, the East Marshes are described as "...a great flat plain which was cut into countless little islands by countless channels of water. The islands were covered with coarse grass and bordered with reeds and rushes. Sometimes there were beds of rushes about an acre in extent. It's quite a lonely place, but many wig-wams belonging to the Marsh-wiggles can be seen dotted around at a good distance from each other (Marsh-wiggles like their privacy), and to Jill and Eustace, "Seen under a morning sun, with a fresh wind blowing, and the air filled with the crying of birds, there was something fine and fresh and clean about it's loneliness". Harfang Home to the "Gentle Giants", Harfang "...stood on a high crag, and in spite of it's many towers was more a huge house than a castle. There were windows in the outside wall quite close to the ground - a thing no one would have in a serious fortress." It's a wonderfully comfortable place, with roaring fires, sumptuous meals, a comfortable bed ~ just what you're looking for after days of travelling in harsh conditions with no shelter or warmth, and barely any food. Just beware the apparently 'Gentle Giants' planning on making you a part of their next feast... Deep Realm Situated in Underland (all the land under Narnia), Deep Realm is ruled over by The Lady of the Green Kirtle The Queen of Underland, and an evil witch, who, it turns out, has been holding King Caspian's son, Prince Rilian captive and under an enchantment for ten years. Deep realm has it's own oceans, roads, cities, trade and even vegetation, though there is no sun. It seems to be illuminated by an unknown source. Working for the Queen are a race of people called Earthmen. They are also under an enchantment, having been brought from their own land, Bism, which lay even further down than the Deep Realm, to work as slaves for the Queen. The Earthmen's land is revealed after the wicked Queen's death, when her enchantments and spells break and a chasm opens in the ground of Deep Realm, exposing Bism. So, these are a few of the lands around Narnia. Which, if any, would you choose to visit? Why, or why not? Are there any other locations in Narnia not mentioned in The Silver Chair that you would like to go to? Come and tell us about them!
