I hope I'm posting this in the right forum.I'm currently reading fan fiction and I'm wondering again what subjects would be required as an Unspeakable.
We saw glimpses of things in the DoM rooms.I had seven subjects as possibilities. That is too many at N.E.W.T level though and outside reading can be done without exams and further study of certain things isn't always necessary. I had in mind-Divination,Potions,Charms,DADA,Transfiguration,History of Magic,Ancient Runes. I should say that almost everything except maybe Transfiguration(is it really needed?) catches my eye.Particularly,Potions,Charms,Divination I think. I also had writing as a Wizarding career in mind, like Beedle. What would be needed for that also do you think? Thanks. |

I hope I'm posting this in the right forum.I'm currently reading fan fiction and I'm wondering again what subjects would be required as an Unspeakable. There are two things that make speculation on this question difficult:We saw glimpses of things in the DoM rooms.I had seven subjects as possibilities. That is too many at N.E.W.T level though and outside reading can be done without exams and further study of certain things isn't always necessary. I had in mind-Divination,Potions,Charms,DADA,Transfiguration,History of Magic,Ancient Runes. I also had writing as a Wizarding career in mind, like Beedle. What would be needed for that also do you think? Thanks. 1) Some very difficult fields are not very specific on the NEWT level requirements. For example, to be an Auror you need five NEWTs with no grade less than E. It doesn't specify which five subjects. Any five will qualify you, but obviously some are more beneficial than others. 2) Not all Unspeakables study the same things. For example, you would require vastly different skills and knowledge to study death than to study love. So there would probably be a minimum number of NEWTs required, but the subjects could vary depending on what you intended to study. -------------------- "It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities."

In my imagination, to be an Unspeakable is sort of like to be a spy. They're kind of hand-picked or invited by related officials in the Ministry of Magic. There's not really a way to actively seek this job. Of course I could be all wrong.
But as for what kind of knowledge would be needed for an Unspeakable, I just think it depends. I gather that very specific knowledge in one or two subjects may be a prerequisite, but then the person needs to have a good general knowledge about different branches of magic, too. Or else how could they tackle magic that are unknown and maybe are still to be sorted. |

Maybe an individual that shows a distinct interest or ability in a branch of a specific magical subject would go on to specialize in its research in the DoM or, would use that knowledge to research other mysteries such as time or death. -------------------- I'm 1 of the 99.99% W.L.Y.J.
