We now have six suggestions for the book to read and discuss in May, thanks to everyone who posted.

Please vote and let us know what you'd like to read. Whichever book is chosen will begin on 2 May.

I voted for Emma by Jane Austen. I first read it when I was sixteen and have adored it ever since, so it would be nice to have an excuse to read it again (not that I need one lol.gif ).

ponder.gif It was difficult to choose from six awesome books but, I voted for Catcher in the Rye which I am about to start reading, & it would be cool to read it in a group. read.gif

I voted for Northanger Abbey, which I also nominated... Since I'm thinking of rereading it soon anyway! wink.gif This novel by Jane Austen parodies the Gothic fiction of her time, among others Ann Radcliffe's The Mysteries of Udolpho (1794), which I am reading right now.* But you don't have to have read the Gothic works referred to, to appreciate the way Jane Austen makes fun of them.

*By the way, I am writing about my reading of Udolpho in my blog, to help myself get through it (670 pages and not quite the pageturner you might expect from the title, at least not to begin with). If anyone is interested, have a look. (First Udolpho post 9 March)

I've not read any of these fine books; any of them would be great. I feel remiss that I've never read A Catcher in the Rye so I almost voted for that. However, my mind is already in the 19th century from reading Wuthering Heights, I've read some Dickens before, and I'm up for a big read, so I chose David Copperfield.

'What does she see in krum,'Ron demanded as he and harry climbed the boys' stairs.
'Well,'said harry considering,'I suppose he's older,isnt he...and he's an international quiddich player...'
'yeah, but apart from that,' said ron sounding aggravated,' I mean he's a grouchy git, isn't he?'
'Bit grouchy, yeah,' said harry. (OOTP)

I second that, I've been meaning to read it and it'd great to be able to discuss it while reading. None of my friends have read it so cyber discussion is my only option wink.gif

My second choice is Emma by Jane Austen, simply because I already have it so it's the simplest choice.

Hello everyone! This would be my very first time to post in the Leaky Lounge. Imagine that! So anyways, I voted for Persuasion since I haven't read it for the longest of time. But I did have a hard time choosing. I would love to participate this coming May with this reading group! biggrin.gif

I went for Catcher in the Rye, since I feel bad having not read it yet! biggrin.gif

Why isn't I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith up there? JKR said it was one of her favorite books, and it is a hilarious, charming read.
