The thirteen dwarves who travelled with Bilbo had rhyming names, or at least names that were used in groups. Can you name all thirteen?

Answer:
Thorin, Dorin, Nori, Ori, Balin, Dwalin, Fili, Kili, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur and Bombur

Did you know that you have a secret hobbit name and an elven name? I looked for mine and it turns out that I'd be
Ruby Gamgee-Took of Bywater to the hobbits, and in Rivendell I'd be known as Merenwen Telrúnya, I think I like the hobbit name best. Check here and here to find your names.

You can also see your name written in runes here, although you might not want to post your name because it will be translatable.

Ooh, Tricksy, Dreamteam!

I'm going to start with my name--
My hobbit name is Dimple Took of Great Smials
and my elvish name is Nienna Tiwele.
I'm not altogether happy about being a TOOK!
But Dimple isn't too bad--although it sounds a bit like a silly hobbit girl to me. Humph!

I'm not really good at remembering long lists--individual names, and their meanings, yes, but not a list.
Thorin Oakenshield--the most important dwarf.
Kili and Fili. Younger dwarves.
Balin and Dwalin.
Bifur, Bofur and Bombur.
I know there's a dwarf with a G name who's the father of Gimli in LOTR--but can't think of his name! Rats.
This is it for me, now.
what can you expect from a Took?!
*****************************
I was driving to the store and the names Oin and Gloin came to me! I think the phrase "Gimli son of Gloin" came back to me. Ten names without cheating--i mean looking at the book. Not bad for a little Took girl, I think! dry.gif

edited by dreamteam to put the answer to the dwarf names in spoilers - good work on getting ten Fricka clap2.gif

Sorry Dreamteam I didn't know we were supposed to put the names in spoilers! I'm new to this anyway, and I don't think I quite know how that works. What should I do next time we are not supposed to reveal names?

Could I just ask that you put the dwarves names in spoilers if you want to post them, just so that the question isn't spoiled for others wanting to answer.

Happy posting hobbits wizard.gif

I've done that name thing a few times before and it always gives me the same name, which pleases me. It's ever so much more satisfying than a random name generator.

Yup, just as I remembered it. Bramblerose Hardbottle. Oh and the Elvish is really beautiful. Eámanë Elanessë.

Hobbit: Tigerlily Moss of Lake-By-Downs
Elven: Tamuríl Nólatári

Here is also another place with an "all-in-one" name generator. It gives you a description of yourself in Middle Earth, your Elvish name with different variations, your Hobbit name, your Dwarven name, your Orkish name, and your Adunaic name.

I was a "loved Elf."
My favorite feminine Elvish name is Ascacairiel.
My hobbit lass name is Adamanta Cotton from The Far Downs.
My Dwarven name is Thorin Poolguard.
My Orkish name is Ruzwakh the Meek.
My Adunaic name is Sattakhaphur.

ETA: Antonija, how lucky you are to get the name Lúthien! The tale of Beren and Lúthien is very sweet! cry.gif (You can read up on the tale here) It is a very noble and well-known name in Middle Earth! smile.gif

Well now I know grin.gif
My Hobbit name is Ferdirand Sandybanks unsure.gif I'm not sure that I like it very much though.
My elf name is Aerandir Nénharma which looks way more interesting but I have no idea how to pronounce that rolleyes.gif

yay! Name generators... always so much fun!

If I were a hobbit, I would be Belba Boffin of Whitfurrows

If I were an elf, I would be Nellas Mithrandír... does that mean I'm related to Gandalf?

My Hobbit name is Ruby Bulge of Hobbiton. I've had that name come up before, so that's good!

My Elven name is Nessa Arcamenel. Hmm, not too sure I like that one!

As to the dwarves names....er lets see how good my memory is here! Thorin Oakenshield, Dwalin and Balin, Ori, Dori and Nori, Oin and Gloin, Bofur, Bombur,.... I can't remember the other three!
