I voted for Fudge--he was supposed to be a good guy! He took all the power, trust, and responsibility that he had been given, and made a mockery of it, endangering the lives of everyone in the wizarding world by turning a blind eye to the truth. Umbridge was nasty, Bellatrix and LV evil...but Fudge has my vote for despicable.

I can't remember loving to hate a character in any book as I did Umbridge!

I voted for Bellatrix Lestrange. As my name indicates, I am a BIG Sirius Black fan and I could never forgive her for that. (Serves her right in 7 towel.gif )

I voted for Dolores Umbridge because she hasn't a single redeeming feature. She's bigotted, unimaginative, lacking intellectual curiosity, acts purely out of expedience, is a coward both physically and morally and is loyal to no-one save her own ambition, her apparent loyalty to Fudge is pure expedience. She'll play for whoever she sees as the winning side at the time. Her 'sweetiness' is repulsive as is the banality of her mind. A creature for whom if I met her ilk in real life I would feel nothing but utter contempt.

Of course, I would also hate both Voldemort and Bellatrix with a passion. however, there is something tragic about both these figures - toxic brilliance, hateful but not contemptible. Voldemort's intellectual curiosity and Bellatrix's loyalty and steadfastness, in themselves, are positives it's the uses to which they put these inherently good traits to that are vile. It's the difference between silk dipped in poison (Voldemort and Bellatrix) and cheap polyester (Umbridge). Nevertheless, it must be said that as characters not persons, all three are brilliant creations.

I decided to look for the Oxford Dictionary meaning of the word before making my judgement:

despicable
/dispikb’l, despik-/

• adjective deserving hatred and contempt.

I have given this a lot of thought and the one person who in my opinion who is both hated and deserving contempt is Umbridge. She shows no regard for others in her quest to achieve what she feels is just and right (the problem is that they are just and right only her tiny brain). She is despised by all who deal with her, including her own staff at the MoM. Her opinionated views of what is right and the way that she forces them onto others is deplorable. Her lack of respect for others, human or not, (I refer to the use of Mad-Eye's eye as an example) shows just how despicable she can be. Her belief that she is superior to others is another example. She is a woman to be despised.

Naturally, I voted for Umbridge and Fudge, although I think Fudge was more despicable ( a good word) in GoF in the chapter where he is fighting with dumbledore over voldy's return. Oh, umbridge, there are so many things I can say about you, from your sickly sweet giggle to your educational decrees. *cringes* dry.gif

"But why's she got to go to the library?"
"Because that's what Hermione does," said Ron. "When in doubt, go to the library."

The easy choices are of course Umbridge because she's perverse as well as evil and Fudge because he is weak. But Dumbledore, because he withholds life saving information from Harry and others, doesn't exactly garner my affection in this particular novel.

Its got to be umbridge!! i think its sirius who says that the world isnt split into good people and death eaters, and it was umbridge that highlighted this for me. technically, shes on the 'good side' as in anti-voldy, but shes a horrible person, utterly despicable! Snape is another example of this, ultimately anti-voldy but still a horrible person!
