I suggest Kenneth Branagh, he was wonderful as Gilderoy Lockhart, but I've seen him play so many good and believable characters, in The Boat That Rocked he was soooooo unpleasant as Sir Alistair Dormandy and Sir Arless Loveless in Wild Wild West, just horrible, but both were so well portrayed. I love his Shakespeare films, he did a great job with Loves Labours Lost which used lots of old songs by the likes of Cole Porter to tell the story, I loved it, Much Ado About Nothing he was really funny, Henry V, Hamlet. He's also good playing more up to date people such as Ernest Shackleton in Shackleton and Wallender, a grumpy, depressed Swedish detective, nothing like Lockhart. He's an actor who's involvement in a film practically guarantees its quality.
If you've only seen him as Gilderoy Lockhart you really need to see some more of his work, you won't regret it. I nominate Michael Sheen. First saw him as Colin in the indie British film Heartlands. A beautifully shot film with a heartwarming performance by Michael. Since than I've sought out films staring him, your almost always guaranteed a great film.
He gets a lot of praise for the roles he plays as he really becomes the character (Tony Blair in The Queen. Brain Clough in The Damned United) He'll also be switching teams this month when, instead of playing the leader of the werewolves, he'll be playing Aro the leader of the Volturi vampire coven in the Twilight Series. I'm not much of a Twilight fan but with the month that's in it I think Michael Sheen would be a good actor to discuss. -------------------- |

I'd like to nominate Ralph Fiennes. I've been an admirer of his long before he "became" Voldemort, and have always been impressed by his versatility. Some highlights of his career include Schindlers List, The English Patient and The Constant Gardener. I also enjoyed his voice over as Victor Quartermaine in Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-rabbit, which proved that the man known for playing mostly intense characters can indeed do comedy. I thought he made an excellent Heathcliff in Wuthering Heights (1992). I know this version didn't do too well with the critics, but I still fell in love with his Heathcliff.
So I'd love to discuss Ralph Fiennes' career some time. -------------------- |
