[19:16] <Aislinn> Minerva McGonagall is a tough, irascible, formidable witch. She has a biting sense of sarcasm and a sharp tongue and yet can be oddly kind. She is fiercely loyal and a firm believer in rules. [19:17] <Aislinn> McGonagall is the first magical person we encounter in the series. She spends the day after the Potters’ murder, not celebrating the downfall of Voldemort, but awaiting Dumbledore’s arrival on Privet Drive. [19:17] *** DumbleDebbie has joined #lounge [19:17] <Aislinn> McGonagall is the head of Gryffindor House and takes that role very seriously. She is the Transfiguration teacher and a member of the Order of the Phoenix. She also served as Deputy Headmistress and became temporary Headmistress upon Dumbledore’s death. [19:17] <Aislinn> So, let’s begin our chat about everyone’s favorite stern tabby cat. [19:17] <Aislinn> We now know that a person’s Animagi self is somewhat similar to a patronus. One takes the form of an animal which reflects that witch or wizard’s character. What did you think of McGonagall’s Animagi form of a common, but stern, tabby cat? She is very strict about rule-following–and she certainly doesn’t seem to favor her own house when she takes points away (20 points from Slytherin, 50 points per student from Gryffindor–Norbert incident). Why not? Do you respect her for that, or do you wish she were more like Snape?
