I was told by a teacher that a good way to combat writer's block is to not stop when it gets hard, but to pick the resting point at a time when it's easy to write. That way when you come back you will be able to jump right in and keep going rather than have a stumbling block.

How do I deal with writer's block? There are certain times in the day when I force myself to write five lines no matter what. They may be crap lines that I erase eventually or they may be good stuff. The most important thing is it keeps me focused on the story and it keeps the story going. You have to write stuff that you may think is stupid, that you may not actually use in the finished product, just to keep the story going.

I do that a lot. It seems like if you keep your hand moving, something good will eventually come out. I guess it's the law of probabilities or something. wink.gif I'm going to be doing my first NaNoWriMo this year (I made a New Year's resolution to finish NaNoWriMo), so I think that method will definitely come in handy.

Yay! I'm looking forward to it again this year. Second one.
On the NaNo forums, which I'd highly recommend you utilize, there's usually a thread where someone rants about the "just write" attitude towards writer's block. I usually walk away from the story and watch a movie route. Something usually comes up by then.

I write music a bit more now than I write fiction. However, you get writer's block while writing music just as much as stories. After all, what is music other than a story using sound as your medium, as

opposed to ink and paper?

What I do is I step away from the program for a bit. Say, one or two hours. I play a game, read a book. Something relaxing. Then I get back to it. It may take a few days, weeks, or even a month.

The method works, however, regardless of the time it takes. smile.gif

Scream, turn red, swear, type random gibberish and nasty things about various topics, drink more of whatever I have, leave in a huff, come back in shame, apologize sheepishly. Repeat.

Haha. I like your tactics. Eat popcorn. It helps so much! Or go out & play a sport. Stuff often comes alot better when your mind is only half focused on it but your body is active.

I usually take a break and eat some hot food. If that doesn't work then I sleep. And when I wake up I'm able to concentrate again. I have a lot of trouble writing when it's too bright or too early though. You need to find what works for you. Record when you get your ideas. If you see a pattern of what time or place, or even what emotion your feeling, when you get your ideas then it's important to continue that pattern.

I go outside and look arund at the trees, or a read a book, or I get mad at someone so I have something to write about..
Hopefully one strikes my inspiration!
