Ahhh Sweet Summer! For most of us that meant a summer reading a new Harry Potter book, going to a Potter party or lazy days spent reliving and re-reading those wonderful books from J.K. Rowling. Tonight marks the start of the Summer Solstice here in the US and elsewhere, it was also FIVE YEARS AGO June 21, 2003 that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was published.
It has now been made into a movie, the series is concluded, but for many of us, the publication of this book was a long awaited event-the years spent between GoF and OotP were full of much speculation and our fandom began to grow (as the film series was already in full operation)
So here is the thing-where were YOU that day five years ago? What memories do you have of that release, the time spent waiting for this book the all nighter spent reading (and heh if you were anything like me, the anguish you experienced with the tragic events and the veil at the end of the book)
What say you?

I was only 11, and I wasn't allowed to go out to a midnight release So I woke up really early and waited in my front hall, rereading GOF, waiting for the mailman to deliver my copy of OOTP to the house. It came around 11 am, and I read the rest of the day!
It is now my favourite book...it wasn't for a few years, but then I re-read it and fell in love again.

Lives are for living I live for you, Dreams are for dreaming I dream for you, Hearts are for beating mine beats for you, Angels are for keeping. Can I keep you? Dumbledore uses a night-light. Not because Dumbledore is afraid of the dark, but because the dark is afraid of Dumbledore.

This was my first midnight release, I was 8, so i couldnt have gone to the GOF as i was too young then, but anyway happy memories. I was at WHSmiths in the Trafford Centre lining up, the que was huge. I had a scar on my head, my pre-order ticket ready, my homemade wand, and a wizards hat made out of balloons. As soon as i got the book I sat down on the nearest bench in the Trafford Centre and started reading , then my dad said we had to leave so i read more in the car. Was forced to sleep as my mum said i couldnt stay up all night. I remember it well (wellish anyway) I loved that night

This was my first midnight release and I went with my family to a small local bookstore in downtown Georgetown, Texas where they had blocked off the streets in order to set up "diagon alley" and have a bunch of fun HP things to do! I remember that there was a TON of people there and it was really fun...after a while we were getting tired, so we sat down on a bench and started swaying back and forth and singing the opening song from the HP movies while random passerby gave us strange looks...ah, good times!!! After I got the book, I went home and read for and hour and then slept, and then read few the next few days untill I finished it (Hey, I was only 11, so the whole 'read it in a day' thing didn't really work out) I do agree with Sue though, the HORRIBLE incident with the veil! I was really angry and sad!!!....I can't believe FIVE YEARS have passed! It seems like just yesterday...
