If Prisoner of Azkaban is where the HP FanArt community really began, then the release five years ago of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is where it really hit its stride. As the largest, most-diverse, and just plain DENSEST book in the Potter series, Order of the Phoenix is also a virtual treasure-trove of fascinating characters, settings, and great moments, both funny and tragic, just begging to be turned into fantastic fan art! artist.gif

We see the Twins finally making a bid for freedom and enterprise --

"Farewell Hogwarts" by Glockgal in the TLC FanArt Gallery

Jo's favourite new character to the series was Luna, and she's popular in FanArt as well, with her quirky sensibilities and frank honesty.

"Luna & a Thestral" by reallycorking,
Featured FanArtist for Aug. 07

The appearance of the prophecy, and the twisted path it will ultimately lead, became a fascinating study in contrasts--light and dark, good and evil --

"Us & Them" by Martintenbones,
Featured FanArtist for Summer 07

The ensuing battle in the Ministry of Magic made for great reading, and amazing FanArt! Here Lupin defends Harry against Malfoy --

"Harry-Neville-Lupin vs Malfoy" by caladan,
Featured FanArtist for Mar. 07

The scene in the Veil Room, where Sirius left Harry forever, and Lupin tried to hold him back, was such a gut-wrenching, pivotal moment! cry.gif Such intense emotion is a perfect opportunity for the FanArtists to shine. Glockgal hides Harry's face, but Remus' anguish is visually palpable --

Here in the TLC FanArt Gallery

So much emotion in a turn-of-phrase was shown in the scene, and by the merest touch of colour and light, the artist is able to crystallize that moment in a tear brought to the viewer's eye. *sniff*

Take a turn around the TLC FanArt Gallery and see all the amazing art this incredible book has spawned. You can even search for, say, "thestral" and bring up all the images that the artists have thus tagged. Enjoy--and be sure and come back to tell us which are your favourites and why. smile.gif Come celebrate OotP's fifth birthday, FanArt style!
