By now, Harry has had some Sirius ups and downs during his school career. But in sharp contrast to his trials and tribulations of OotP, as he returns to school in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, he finds himself the flavour of the month. No longer the shunned pariah, reported in the press as an attention seeking liar, he finds that he is the object of fascinated attention from girls, in particular. It doesn't hurt that he is the new Gryffindor Quidditch captain and that the events at the end of OotP have been discussed extensively in the Daily Prophet. So why is he so intrigued and puzzled by the behaviour of Draco Malfoy, who has had a downturn in his fortunes, and is talking about leaving? And who is the Half-blood prince, whose very handy potions book proves so helpful to Harry?

Some characters in a book are impressive because of their willingness to make themselves available at unexpected moments. Others are too obsessed with their own moods and romantic troubles to be aware that they might be needed elsewhere. Sometimes main characters, irritate the reader when they don't want to believe that all is not well, or when they quarrell with other main characters for little reason. Some other characters manage to be annoying and impressive at the same time, even if they are not in both lists.

Who according to you was the most impressive character in Order of the Phoenix and why ?

And

Who was the most annoying and why ?

There is a further twist. Which of the new characters in Half-Blood Prince do you like? And which don't you like very much? There is a whole range of new characters brought to us via Dumbledore's pensieve memories to choose from. Meanwhile, have your views changed about old characters like Draco, Cornelius Fudge, Percy or Professor Trelawney from how they appeared in previous books?

You may vote for more than one person in all categories, but please let us know what you think of each character, and the reasons why. Let us explore together the quirks and difficulties of each character.

Those who impressed me particularly are Snape, Harry, Dumbledore, Ginny and Voldemort. ;lion:

Snape must have been under tremendous pressure after making his promises to Narcissa and Dumbledore but he handled it quite well, going berserk only in the end after Harry called him 'coward'. Snape hated what he had to do but did it for it had to be done - I can really admire such a strength.

Harry impressed me a lot as usual - his ability to do things when he's scared to death is amazing. But even so, the hardest thing he did was feeding Dumbledore the potion because he loved Dumbledore and hated what he was doing, but he still did it.

Dumbledore's poise and polish is something that absolutely staggers me. Where someone else would be in pieces, he's calm and unruffled and goes about talking as if he's at a tea-party. That man is simply awesome ! heart.gif

Ginny's manner of taking things as they came and seizing the opportunity and even more important, letting go, really impressed me. Running towards Harry and kissing him came as easily to her as tacitly letting go of their relationship though the latter must have cost her a lot.

Voldemort impressed me wit his determination to get what he wanted. I realise that his goal was to be achieved at the cost of many many lives, but he did not hesistate to mutilate himself and take risks such as no one had ever taken before in his quest to become immortal and I can appreciate his ambition even if I do not approve of it. smile.gif

On the annoying list are Slughorn and Ron during his Won-Won phase. Remus annoyed me immensely for staying away from Tonks the whole year when they both wanted to be together. but I forgave him easily. biggrin.gif

Out of the new characters, I liked the poor hapless muggle PM. He seemed genuine concened about his people and also had the proper amount of naivete in re all things magcial to make him very human and mugglish. Slughorn, I liked as well as disliked - the way he completely ignoredRon irritated me a lot.
