What do you think about a new character being introduced in the upcoming GOF film?
Personally, I think that they should stick to the books. I cannot believe that they have added a new character that "feels perfectly organic and works" and is "related to Harry's journey". How can a character not in the book be related to Harry's journey? I hope that it is not just wasted time. They have left out very important scenes from the first 3 movies. I've not been happy about scenes and info that have been left out , nor have I appreciated the premature introduction of romance between Ron and Hermione. They have cut a lot out using the excuse of keeping the movie(s) from running too long. I think that the majority of HP fans would happily sit through a much longer and accurate movie. Children too young to sit through the movies shouldn't be taken to them in the first place. I know that the theaters want to have the most possible showings per day to increase their daily revenue, but it isn't fair to butcher the movie for the sake of time and money. I'd pay more for a longer movie. I hope that eventually DVD's will be release with all the deleted scenes put back in. One of my adult friends who doesn't read the books had no idea who the 4 Mauraders were, the significance of Harry's Patronus or the relationship between Snape and the 4 Mauraders as students together at Hogwarts and how that impacts his treatment of Harry! And although the "shrunken head" was mildly amusing, I would have prefered that it and the poor unfortunate blue bird were left out and those minutes used to keep the shrieking shack scene true to JKR's vision. Just MHO. I wish that the film makers would listen to the fans. **************** From the Leaky News Alert: Sci-Fi Wire: No Winky or Dobby Subplot, and more GoF Tidbits from Heyman Sci-Fi Wire published an interview with producer David Heyman detailing some things about GoF: -The Winky and Dobby subplot has been cut -The Great Hall was stripped and completely redressed in floor-to-ceiling silver for the Yule Ball filming -"One piece of information ... we've put into another character, which feels perfectly organic [and] works." -The "surprisingly spacious" Weasley tent has been shot -Filming includes "a trophy room filled with silvered plaques and cups of various sizes, the Ministry Box at the Quidditch World Cup stadium, and a faux marble Trial Chamber, which rises several stories high." Heyman said: "Anything that doesn't really relate to Harry and Harry's journey is less relevant...That's not to say that there're not minor detours. Inevitably there are. But there are certain things that we don't spend as much time with as they do in the book, just by the very nature of the material." |
