HUMOUR IN HBP Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince is the volume that bridges the conflict of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, to the final rise and eventual destruction of Voldemort. Now that Voldemort has finally revealed himself, to a disbelieving Fudge, himself, consequences come thick and fast. Fudge has been replaced by Rufus Scrimgeour as Minister for Magic. The escaped Bellatrix calls Severus Snape to account for his niggardly participation in DE activities, and Dumbledore, who collects Harry from 4 Privet Drive, has had his hands burnt in some mysterious way. Nonetheless, before Dumbledore meets his fate, there are plenty of moments of humour whilst Ron struggles with his newly found romantic life, Hermione fumes, and life at Hogwarts' school of Wizardry proceeds as nearly normal as a war-time situation could be. After all, humour is a great way to help cope with serious topics such as love and war, and to defuse tension. There are a few new characters whose antics supply some of the humour, such as Horace Slughhorn, Cormac McLaggan, Romilda Vane, and others who serve on the Gryffindor Quidditch team or who attend Slughorn's club sessions. Meanwhile, Narcissa Malfoy does her best to get help for an unappreciative Draco, charged with a mysterious mission, for which he will get the backing of 'friends' such as Fenrir Greyback. Older characters are shown in a new light as Lavender Brown learns why she should be wary of men with red hair, Dumbledore educates Harry about the life and times of one Tom Riddle Jnr, and Weasley's Wizard Wheezes becomes a roaring success in otherwise grim times. What events and saying in Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince did you find funniest? Please let us know what your views might be. You may choose more than one option from each poll. I thought the Weasley's shop was absoultely hilarious. I just loved the advertisment for You Know Who/U No POO, that was absoulte genius.
I picked other for the funniest quote. I loved it when Harry talked back to Snape in DADA: "Do you remember me telling you we are practicing nonverbal spells, Potter. Yes. Yes, sir. There's no need to call me 'sir' professor." I thought that line from Harry was the funniest line ever, too bad he got in trouble for it. -------------------- ~"Does it hurt?" The childish question had fallen from Harry's lips before he could stop it. "Dying? Not at all," said Sirius. "Quicker and easier than falling asleep."~ |

you'd think people could find better things to gossip about. three dementor attacks in a week, and all romilda vane does is ask me if it's true you have a hippogriff tattooed to your chest
What did you tell her? i told her it was a Hungarian Horntail, much more macho. Thanks, and what did you tell her ron's got? a pygmy puff but i didnt say where... -------------------- "Dumbledores man through and through arent you Potter?" "Yeah I am." Harry said. There are so many moments that make me laugh! One of my favourites in HBP has to be just after Harry get's hit by the bludger and wakes up in the infirmary, Ron's comment 'Nice of you to drop in' is classic, such a Ron thing to say

The whole Ron eating the chocolates laced with love potion has to be the funniest scenes in hbp Oh, especially when he punches Harry! It's just so true of some lovestruck boys... a pity it had to end so badly, with the poison. HBP definitely has some of the funniest moments in the series. That's what I loved about this book; the brilliant contrast between the doom and gloom and the regular lives of teenagers in boarding school. It makes the sad that much sadder, but shows that there's always good in a bad situation.. you just have to hunt a little to find it. -------------------- Signature in development... thanks to Procrastinators United! There's some hilarious incidents in Half Blood Prince!
The Prime Minister learning there is a Wizarding World from Cornelius Fudge - it must be confusing for the Muggle Prime Minister, with wizards coming through his fire and the portraits! Weasley's Wizard Wheezes shop - it was so typically Fred and George. It was obvious that they were doing well in the business! Ron's love potion induced fancy for Romilda Vane - a highly amausing episode, poor Ron didn't have the best seventeenth birthday! And Harry Potter's now having an argument with his Keeper! I don't think that'll help him find the Snitch but maybe it's a clever ruse! - Luna is hysterical as commentator. Lee Jordan never did it so well! Sometimes you remind me a lot of James. He called it my 'furry little problem'. Many people were under the impression that I owned a badly behaved rabbit. - Typical Lupin. He is trying to play down his werewolf tendencies. Why are you worrying about You-Know-Who? You SHOULD be worrying about U-NO-POO - the constipation sensation that is gripping the nation But the bit which has me giggling every time I read it/listen to it (it is one part that I love repeating with Stephen Fry!) isn't mentioned. It is Molly and Arthur at the Burrow. We discover Arthur's lifelong ambition to find how areoplanes stay up. And we find out what Arthur calls Molly when they're alone together - Mollywobbles. I think "Mollywobbles" is one of my favourite words in the Potterverse |

this book really shows the wonderful depth of the series because it is, at times, so funny (dumbledore's visit to the dursley's, ron's love potion, harry's conversations with himself about Ginny, hermione and the birds) yet so sad and dark.
i loved luna's commentary at the quidditch game and the party "a vampire-oh, rufus scrimgeour?"-the book isn't in front of me, so forgive me if i misquote. Lavendar's Christmas gift to ron is great, too (as is Kreacher's to Harry). What I love about this book is it shows how truly funny kids this age can be. -------------------- "Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?" Mr. Weasley was looking around. He loved everything to do with Muggles.... |

In the end I think I voted for most of those
Scene wise I really liked seeing the twin's shop, to see what they'd finally achieved, and I thought the Romilda Vane/ Ron thing was great -------------------- "Oh no, not again" -Bowl of Petunias The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy |

Mollywobbles - and Mrs. Weasleys mortification of revealing that little piece of info in front of Harry is too sweet and funny.

My favorite was Ron's behavior after eating the chocolate cauldrons, but Luna's Quidditch commentary would be second.

Great poll ! It was with great difficulty that I restrained myself from voting for all of them. Finally, I went with Dumbledore's lines to the Dursleys and to Harry when he told him of Scrimgeour's visit. Luna's commentary was absolutely insane ! Loser's Lurgy ! for funny scens, the Gryffindor-Hufflepuff match again and Fudge's visits to the muggle PM emerged the winners along with Dumbledore at the Dursley's house, Harry and Dumbledore finding Slughorn as an armchair and the trip to 93 Diagon Alley. -------------------- ![]() |

I don't think you realize just how many funny parts there are in this series until you start to see a list developed. Most were so cleverly inserted into the text that they enhance it without taking away from the plot or monologue. Don't you just adore Jo? -------------------- Books are not made for furniture,

Harry's 'sir' comment to Snape was hilarious, and I can definitely picture a high school boy responding like that to his teacher!
The 'U-NO-POO' comment was probably the best in my opinion, though. It made me burst into laughter the first time I read it. |

I thought some of Ron's remarks were funny. It is so obvious that he is keen on Hermione, when he comments about her 'eleven outstanding OWLs' or when he remarks that Twycross was so thrilled with Hermione's apparition performance that he might have popped the question.

kay so i tried to vote for the least possible things or else i would have checked the whole list!!!
1. -Ron, Lavender and Hermione's love triangle -Ron's love potion induced fancy for Romilda Vane -Something else not mentioned so far. just had to pick those!!! my other would be when ginny says to harry romilda vane asked if he had a tatoo and then she said that ron had a pygmy puff but she didnt tell where i was just cracking up 2. -Perfect deliberation, divination and desperation or whatever the hell it is....you should've heard Twycross going on about her - I'll be surprised if he doesn't pop the question soon - -And Harry Potter's now having an argument with his Keeper! I don't think that'll help him find the Snitch but maybe it's a clever ruse! -Romilda? Did you say Romilda? - Do you know her? Can you introduce me? -Why are you worrying about You-Know-Who? You SHOULD be worrying about U-NO-POO - the constipation sensation that is gripping the nation -Yet, sadly, accidental rudeness happens alarmingly often okay the 1st one was hilarious loved lunas commentary... the whole thing with mclaggen was funny ^^ have to say anything on this one? =p U-NO-POO:wicked brilliant!!! and i laughed even more at mrs. weasleys reaction!! hah! DD=lol in this scene -------------------- |
