When do we actually find this out? I've always known / assumed it was Gryfindor but don't know why.

I know in the 4th film he tells Harry he had set fire to the hangings such as those around harry's bed, but otherwise I can't remember any other hints we get. doh.gif

Hermione tells Harry and Ron that she heard Dumbledore was in Gryffindor while she is ranting about houses. Jo uses Hermione to tell the reader information we woudn't find out otherwise, stuff like you can't Disapperate or Apperate on Hogwarts grounds and how electrical things go haywire because of the magic around the school.

Hermoine said it on the train. Also, JKR would never let that line in the movie if he had been in, say, Ravenclaw.

From the hints in the books we have to assume that he was in Gryffindor; but I think he also could be a Hufflepuff.
