Yeah it was Gryffindor. Dumbledore was head of Gryffindor house before he became headmaster and I think he mentioned it to Harry in GoF.

Wow, JKR is so cool! It is quite clever to leave out exactly which house DD belonged to. It could be that she didn't want to just say Gryffindor so that all the children that go to Hogwarts could feel a common bond with DD. Like the four qualities united or something. Personally I have always thought that DD was in Gryffindor. He is so brave, and he did defeat the dark lord Grindewald. I do like the idea of him having all the qualties, afterall he is very clever, and the only one who really knows what Voldemort is up to.

U.K. edition page 79-80 QUOTE I hope to be in Gryffindor, I hear that Dumbledore himself was one But, that is one of the reasons we're sitting here debating over the finest & smallest points. We do not know for sure that DD was in Gryffindor house. Hermione says "I hear", unlike other times when she states facts that she's read in Hogwarts: A History. While I believe that DD was in Gryffindor as a student, it's just fun to discuss it, & to ask the big question, why do we not know this kind of major fact for sure. I dont think we're going to be shocked with a big surprize, like DD was in Slytherin, & he's the exception of the *good Slytherin* but there's always that tiny doubt, because even the Lexicon does not have DD as a certain Gryffindor ... and so we discuss & obsess over this minor but curious lack of specific information. -------------------- I'm 1 of the 99.99% W.L.Y.J. Um.. I always though Dumbledore was head of Gryffindor, in his time? And we know that heads of houses were in the house that they're head of...
Though perhaps I'm just imagining that Dumbledore was head of house... -------------------- |

I really can't be sure and I don't have my books near me at the moment. I always assumed that Dumbledore was in Gryffindor because that's what Hermione says, but now someone's pointed it out, she only said "I hear..." Thats not definitive is it? So now I don't know! Wouldn't it be great if it turned out he was in Slytherin?! Unlikely, but interesting. -------------------- ![]() ![]() Jo's Book Nook is now reading Skellig by David Almond and The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. I think DD was probably in Gryffindor, but that his brother may have been in a different house. there seems to be a distance between them that could easily be explained by Aberforth being in a different house, it might also explain why DD is so keen to unite the houses. It is never mentioned whether Gryffindors sword was already part of the headmasters office or whether it is part of DDs personal effects but the artwork of book 7 makes me think that it may have been DD's and was left to Harry

I think he sees it as rightfully his. -------------------- What do you do, when the one thing that you need to save your life, would also make life unbearable?

Well I am of the opinion that DD was the decendant of griffindor , therefore he had to be in griffindor.
