The Actual Chess Endgame in the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Movie
Written by Jeremy Silman
Essay adaptation for Scribbulus written by WizBang101

Abstract:

The chess endgame from the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Movie was written by the International Chess Master Jeremy Silman. However, the editing of the movie altered his carefully constructed endgame. This essay discusses what the endgame was supposed to be and how editing of this kind in movies impacts the experience of the fans.

Biography:

WizBang101 is a moderator on the Chamber of Chat and currently finishing off his postgraduate teaching studies while working being a science tutor. In his spare time he does a bit of Chess, coaches soccer, goes to church and is a sleuth/advisor to solve organisational problems. He is proud of the fact that he has currently introduced Harry Potter books to his mother who now fully appreciates Harry Potter as well.

WizBang101 thanks IM Jeremy Silman for creating the chess game for the movie and giving his permission to allow his article adapted for the Harry Potter fans on the Leaky Lounge website so we could appreciate the chess battle scene of the movie more than ever.
