Do you have specific questions that have not been addressed in the
Submission Criteria or the
Scribbulus Information page?
Ask them here! A member of the essay team will be happy to answer your questions or will direct you to the place to find the answers you need.

I'm sure this will be a moot point once Scribblus is fully opened, but I'm curious, so I'll ask. Where will the essays be located? Will they be pinned and locked, as the first post on the regular threads, or in some other location?

Yes, they will be locked. There will be a special link on the Home page of TLC. anguinea did some really great artwork for us!

This isn't really a question - more a heads-up! But I didn't find any other thread for it. :conf: There seem to be a few missing links in DorisTLC's Submission Guidelines thread.

All so called links in these part of the text are nothing but the word "link". I would assume they were supposed to be actual links?
I suppose this is the thread DorisTLC refers to as Questions and Concerns? If so, perhaps you should either change the title of this thread or her post in the Info thread so the names match, to make it easier recognizable?

Are essays restricted to the same ibcode used in ordinary posts? (That's a long-winded way of asking whether we can put tables in essays?)

Feb 12 2006, 03:10 PM
No, actually it's not in iB code.... I can't tell you the technical name for it (thus why I'm an editor & not a tekkie!!), but the submissions page looks as if it's closest to Microsoft Word. I don't know how the submissions WORK exactly, but I do know that two essays already have charts in them. I couldn't tell you if they're entirely chart-like or if they're pictures, but they're in there! :)

Considering that DorisTLC wrote this in the info thread, I guess you can use HTML. QUOTE(DorisTLC @ Info thread)
Questions and Concerns
This is where you post if there is anything at all about Scribbulus or this forum that confuses, concerns or upsets you. ..., if you don't get our sumbission form to work or you have no idea how to use html code in your essay - or if you have any other question or concern at all. This thread is for interaction with the Scribbulus staff, and we will try and answer your questions and comments in this thread as soon as we have the time.

Does your essay meet our publishing criteria? If so, we would love you to submit it once the submissions page is up and running when Scribbulus is launched. If not, could you tweak it to follow our guidelines? If I am understanding your question correctly the Scribbulus forum is not the place to post essays. If you are just wondering if an essay previously posted in the Leaky forums could be submitted for consideration for publishing in Scribbulus then yes it can.

That is correct, the actual essay project has not been launched yet. I think they are dealing with some technical issues - I believe the essays themselves are all ready to go.
They opened up this forum as kind of a warm-up to when the real Scribbulus gets launched. Just to stir people up a little bit and get them excited. I imagine once Scribbulus is up, a lot of your questions will be answered (for example: how to submit an essay).
And please let it be soon! Scribbulus: will you be my Valentine?

It might be an idea to pm someone like Elly or memyslfnI, in particular, to see what can be done. When I submitted my essay the Essay team organised a submissions page for me to do it with, and no doubt once all arrangements have been made, something of the sort will be available again.
At the moment there is a Coming Soon message on the essays link on Leaky Cauldron where I think the essays will be going. There still seems to be technology issues to resolve, since both Leaky Cauldron and Leaky Lounge appear to be involved. The Leaky Lounge part of it is up for your inspection, and what criteria may be needed for your submission is also available on some of the other parts of Scribbulus.
I, too, am most anxious to know how it is all progressing.
:excited: :excited: :excited: It would be nice to have a firm date, a fanfare with the launch, a sort of virtual party, and plenty of notification and advertisement to get everyone on Leaky Lounge involved.
Of course there is the Goblet of Fire DVD coming out March 7th..... :ponder:

We are inching foward I promise you all! If there is an essay you wish me to look at now PM me and I will give you my email address to send it to me as an attachment.I do not want to give you the old submissions page as WWW can tell you, it was a bit tempermental!
We are quite ahead of ourselves! We would love to get a jump on issue number 2!

When the essays go up, will there be a button to select a "printer friendly version?" That way we can easily print an essay to read offline, without having the whole browser print. Or, can the essays be available as a download, a pdf maybe?

there were a bunch of essays, like about the Weasley's and how wizards schooled, etc...maybe they aren't actually called "essays"? They were sort of hanging around by the timelines, etc...

Or just that there'll come new ones in a steady stream? Like PotterCast?

I'd imagine that the essays would be archived after a time, and that Scribbulus would work something like Mugglenet's North Tower etc with regular additions. I doubt that essays would disappear altogether since for every argument there can be a counter argument as we've already noticed. eg. Dumbledore is dead/alive, Harry is/is not a Horcrux etc
memyslfnI
Feb 23 2006, 06:21 PM
My hope is that they will be archived. This way new members as well as people looking to see what essay topics have been covered can access them. At this point we just are working on getting the essays up and running for your viewing pleasure!

When you say wider HP fandom A, what do you mean? For instance if someone searches "Snape as vitriol in Alchemy" as their key words in a google search will your essay pop up as a possible result?

I'm pretty sure that is exactly what would happen. It is how I found useful info for my own essay. Also, I still laugh about an ex-schoolmate wanting to stage a school reunion in 2004, who found me through Leaky Cauldron that way, even though I don't live all that far away from her, and looking up the local phonebook would have saved her and Leaky Cauldron a lot of trouble.

I just want to know how I go about sumitting an essay now that the project is up and running. I still dont' see where you can do that. And I emailed a mod a few weeks ago, and she never got back to me. Now, I don't know what to do.

Hey guys, I would love to be able to print the essays, because I find reading on a computer screen quite hard-going. But right now I can only print the entire page. I can't even highlight and select text to print or copy into word for printing. Is there any way around this?
Thanks!

Mar 6 2006, 11:26 PM
I have experienced the same issue you are having, but I did find something. If you use the Select All feature (ctrl + A) you can select everything and copy it over to a word file and then just cut out what you dont want. After that feel free to print. I am trying to find another way at the moment but this works for now. There might be an easier way in firefox, I am working in IE.
Aislinn
Mar 6 2006, 11:31 PM
I was able to highlight just the article in Firefox, without having to get the rest of the web page, and then copy it over into Word to print out. It would be nice, though, to have a printer friendly copy available.
MattTLC
Mar 6 2006, 11:33 PM
After further review using firefox you can select the text in the ajax code unlike IE. So using firefox you can select the text out of the ajax code. Enjoy...
