A friend of mine and I watched GOF again last night and I don't know how I forgot this part, but the bathtub scene with Moaning Myrtle is also one of the most horrible, cheesy scenes I've seen in the HP films. It is so totally off the mark with what happened in the book and it is just really bad. It could have been done much, much better.

Jul 25 2006, 11:05 AM
I know I replied in Part I of this thread, but I think that was before GOF came out, so I'm going to add the Myrtle bathtub scene as well.
It was just a little too overdone.
(oh, and I know it isn't really fair to make predictions about OotP yet, but I think Grawp has the potential to be the cheesiest bit in that one)
UrbanPhoenix

Without a doubt, I think the cheesiest scene in any of the HP films was the quick shot of Hagrid and Maxime dancing at the Yule Ball - when Hagrid sneakily moves his hand down to Maxime's rear end, and she shoots him a coy and disapproving look... I hated that scene, actually - It was just like about a million other scenes from a million other movies... It was cheesy and silly and painful to watch...
I agree with previous posters, too - the scene with Myrtle in the Prefect's bathroom was overdone...
Joanne88
Jul 25 2006, 01:46 PM
my head tells me that i agree with you all, saying about how the myrtle scene is overdone, and doesnt agree with the book enough... i thought all that too when i watched it - especially that it doesnt correspond with the book and the rest of the story... however, when im watching it, i love it! I dont know why, i know its really kinda bad, it just makes me giggle...

Hmmm.
Mine would have to be in PS when Harry gets out of the hospital wing and WOW, Ron and Hermione are at the top of the stairs, chatting away and he says "All right, Ron?", Ron replies, then Harry turns to Hermione and she goes "Never Better" in the sweetest little voice. That one just kills me.

OK, mine is those silly shrunken heads on the Knight Bus. Absolutely no need and dumb with that hokey Jamacian accent. Then to top it off, it's on the extra features and never shuts up!

In PoA when Harry finds out about Sirius being his Godfather and he's "crying" on that rock and says "I'm going to kill him!" That was so cheesy.
I agree with m.a.m for SS.
In CoS at the very ending when everyone is clapping Hagrid... seriously, that has to be one of the cheesiest.
In GoF, I agree that the bath scene was annoying.

The second movie when Harry has a thing for HANDS!
What was that all about?
Justin's petrified, and Harry's like "I'll touch his hand."
Hermione's petrified. "I'll touch her hand."
Ginny's almost dead. "HAND!"
Cheesy, cheesy, cheesy.
I like the freeze frame in POA!

I thought it was awesome, but maybe that's just me.

Yes, the part in POA when he (Harry) is crying in the snow, OMG I hate that part. Why did they have to make him look like a little baby? Almost all of GOF. Some of the things they change from the book to make the movie what they call better is so way off.

Sometimes I just want to

scream did you even read the books!? Where in your

mind did you think that part was going to be better than what JK wrote?

There's a lot of scenes in PoA that are pretty cheesey...Like the broom flying freeze frame at the end of the film :/ I've only seen one person to like that and she's two posts above me
OH! and when they're trying to sneak Sirius out and Sirius is like screaming at the top of his lungs? HELLO?? Shush up....silly boy.

Hey HeidiBug, as far as Harry touching people's hands in CoS. Keep in mind, dude has been shown, like, zero physical affection in his entire life up to that point. Remember when Molly Weasley hugs him in the hospital wing at the end of GoF, and he has no memory of being hugged that way. The kid is just unconsciously trying to get some phsycial intimacy.
As for me, I thought much of the aftermath in the Chamber of Secrets with Harry and Ginny, ended up being pretty cheese-tastic in the movie:
Ginny: Harry . . . you're hurt
Harry: Ugh, poison coursing through veins. . . Ginny get yourself out, you seem strangely not very upset
Ginny: Yeah, don't I cry in the book?
Harry: Yeah, I've been cured by Phoenix tears, see, Ginny, it was only a memory . . . get it, only a memory . . because, you know, the diary, ugh.

One scene i rather thought was dumb or cheesy was in goblet of fire when harry goes into the tent and says that horrid line "i love magic" that really made the scene worse and all. the quidditch cup was ok although i am sayiong this because i would have liked to have seen more of it.
But one scene i thought was really quite cheesy and just made me laugh was at the end of Chamber of Secrets when they all start clapping because hagrid is back...No hogwarts without you Hagrid...umm...not really my style to end a harry potter movie if you ask me. just the whole time i wish they would stop and it literally made me laugh...hermione was in tears, everyone was cheering and yelling, etc...rather annoying. oh well though...it's out there and done.

I practically agree with all of your opinions! I thought in CoS when Harry was in the diary and when he was leaving and "Hagrid! Hagggggggggrrrrrrriiiiiddddddd!!!!". I thought that was pretty cheesy and I agree with the scene of him crying when learning about Sirius being his godfather "I'll kill him. I'll be ready for him". I really hated that part though at the end of PoA with that smeared face ending. That was grotesque in cinematic sense. There are probaly going to be cheesier scenes to come though.

Gosh, all of these replies are good! I think the cheesiest part is the freeze frame in POA. that was just sad. Oh, and the part where he's crying. Does anyone else think that, too?

There's another scene at the end of PoA that was pretty bad....It was when Hermione and Harry are flying on buckbeak and Harry is explaining to Hermione about being the one across the lake I think....and it's so very clear it's a commentary for those of us too dense to catch the clues that it was Harry and that he could in fact ward of the Dementors. My friend, Eric, turned to me in the movie theatre at that scene and did the Austin Powers pinky finger up to your lip face....which of course made me hysterically laugh in the middle of a serious scene.

I actually really
loved that line, if only because I've felt like saying it so many times myself... I don't know, I thought it was a very human moment for Harry (and a good way to illustrate what his life had been before coming to Hogwarts in the first place)... It didn't seem cheesy to me, it seemed appropriate...
I thought of another overly-cheesy scene yesterday, from PoA (of course!) - when Harry first rides Buckbeak over the lake, and Buckbeak grazes his hoof along the glimmering water, and Harry throws his fists in the air and lets out a joyful hoot... What. was. that....? In the book, Harry was
terrified while riding Buckbeak... He was just happy to have survived it... Why did they add that ridiculous scene?

Oh, boy, so many cheezy scenes have already been given. Let's see:
COS: Harry dangling outside the Anglia, says to Ron, "your hand's all sweaty!" Always makes me laugh.
COS: "Dobby is FREEEEEE!!!"
POA: Snape emerging from the tunnel at the base of the whomping willow; seeing the transformed Lupin, and stepping in front of the trio to "protect" them. Not a chance. Snape would've given the kids a good shove. Totally out of character.
POA: Snape smacking the kids during studyhall. When did Hogwarts get a studyhall? Since when do teachers hit the kids? Of course, DD grabbing Harry and screaming--did you put your name in the goblet of fire was was way over the top.
POA: I also hated the shrunken heads on the Knight Bus and at the Three Broomsticks.
POA: Harry crying on the rock was an all time low. Lower than the COS, "There's just no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid." Sniff.
POA: Arthur Weasley's hair. I was fixated with it.
POA: "Bombardia!!" A nice quiet spell to break Sirius out with.
POA: How about Hermione screaming when they're on their way to pick up Sirius?
GOF: The entrance of the now-all-witches-Beauxbaton students. sighhhhhh.
GOF: Hermione grabbing Harry and hugging him before he faces the dragon.
GOF: Krum, "The tent is for champions and friends!" hahahaha.
GOF: agreed--one of the cheesiest moments is the hippogriff dipping its hoof in the lake and Harry doing his Leo DeCaprio/Titanic impersonation.
GOF: "Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hogiewarty Hogwarts, teach us something new ..."
GOF: "I can touch you ... now!"
GOF: Cedric, Arthur, and Amos Diggory coming out of the clouds like they're riding invisible bicyles. They all look like they've got wedgies! Wheeee.
GOF: Arthur's permed hair. It's hypnotic.

Invisible unicyles?!? That is so on the money. That's exactly what they look like they are riding. GOF was riddled with overthetop scenes. This scene was not at all as I imagined and described in the book.

Expelliarmas,
You've reminded me of one...
I must have blocked the shrunken heads out of my memory. I HATE the heads too. That includes the ones in Three Broomsticks because the one on the bus (and unfortunately the interviews

I just fast forward through as much of the Knight Bus scene without losing the bulk of the humour.

I didn't think Hermione's "Can't you see it's bothering him?" was over the top and I like "There's no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid." And I didn't have a problem with the part in GOF when Harry is on everyone's shoulders and says "who wants me to open it?"
I fact, I don't really think there's anything in the movies that I found cheesy, expect for Harry's fetish with hands in COS.

Also, in the same scene when Hermione is asked about the third unforgivable curse, and she declines to say what it is. A bit on the cheesy side. GOF is just replete of over the top scenes. From the "Hagrid I haven't any money" line to the scene where everyone is looking at Harry about to fall off his broom to the ending "I'm not going home, not really" I mean, I seriously never realized how cheesy it was. You know, I see the cheese factor in the ending of CoS, but I think it was a great ending for Hagrid. Remember he has been living the last 50 years accused of something he did not do and had to stop doing magic. Hi,
I agree with all the scenes mentioned here. Wondering if another interesting thread might be "most moving scene"?
For most moving, I would vote for CoS Dumbledore with Harry explaining the Mirror of Erised, or maybe Cedric's father's reaction at the end of the 3rd task in GoF.
Cheesiest? Probably the Beaubatons entrance (sigh) in GoF.
