To celebrate the Queen's birthday in June 2006, a special Harry Potter sketch was shown featuring Dan Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Matthew Lewis.

You can now view this in our Videos Gallery here.

Our fabulous foursome join in the hunt for the Queen's missing handbag, together with some pretty funny gags for Ron and Neville - and Matthew Lewis was right when he was interviewed recently on Pottercast, his hair is pretty awful lol.gif !

Enjoy wizard.gif

Is it me, or did anyone else find the skit more canon than the movies? I loved the way Dan and Rupert conversed, like Harry and Ron would, with the whole "Voldermort with a handbag" bit (although, I guess Ron saying Voldy's name wasn't very canon). And Emma seemed much more bossy and knew what to do, etc. And it was just the way everything was set up. Seemed more...Potter-ey, than the movies have been. For me, atleast.

Now if the films were constructed like this, that would be fantastic. What do you think?

(I hope this is the right place to talk about the skit; couldn't find anywhere else to start a thread/reply blush.gif)

I'm with you, kmoose! This skit seemed very canon-based, much more so than the books. Not necessarily that they included stuff from the books (obviously none of this was ever in the books), but all the characters seem very canon to me. I believed, like I rarely do the films, really believed that Ron and Harry were friends. Emma did a really excellent job - Hermione seemd very intelligent and bossy and - well - really, pretty close to perfect.

I'd be curious as to who wrote this little skit.

Mmm, same here. Was it shot during the filming of OotP? If so, then I'm assuming Yates did the directing. Which gives me some hope for the movie. thumbup.gif

The new Video Galleries are amazing aren't they?

If you are looking for information it looks like the entire skit was written by Julian Fellowes, a pretty well known writer and actor who wrote the brilliant Gosford Park.

I beleve if you listen to the recent pottercast with Matt Lewis he talks about the filming of the skit, and do take a look around the Video galleries for more Matt Lewis fun! thumbup.gif

I love this sketch. It really does have a strong base in canon and it is really funny.
It was cool listening to Matt explain how they did it and what the actors thought!

(I can post now!!! biggrin.gif )

The skit was WAAAYY more canon than the movies. The relationships were more like the book relationships and the humor was similar to how the book characters act. It was funny and cute and very canon, which is refreshing when the movies are so far off the books.
I would also be very curious to find out who wrote the script for this skit. Who ever it was, they should be writing the movie scripts!

Wasn't it Jo herself? For some reason I think it was. Which would explain why its closer to cannon.

No, Lolarose It wasn't Jo but it was someone who seems to know his Potter!

I did a bit of research (well okay I googled the guy) and I found out that Julian Fellowes has written a lot both for television and movies- along with Gosford park he also wrote Vanity Fair- he wrote the whole of the Children's party at the palace (in which the skit was played) and he really does seem to have made it quite canon!

Seeing as Julian Fellowes did such a fantastic job writing this video screenplay, perhaps WB's should get him to write the screenplays for the remaining two films?

What I really liked about this was Neville. It was clearly written to show him as now coming out of his cocoon and almost an equal to the trio. I do wish though that someone could stop Emma Watson, (whom I adore as Hermione), moving her eyebrows so much when she gets serious. It's getting rather off-putting.

Ah, you had the guts to say it. lol.gif I think Emma's doing quite well as Hermione, but I agree, she is a bit fond of moving those eyebrows of hers. It looks like someone's puppeteering her to do that... lol.gif

I completely agree. Matt Lewis is really doing amazing with his role. It's nice to see him validated a bit to be included in the skit. smile.gif

Wow...I have never heard of this guy before, but he knows his Potter! thumbup.gif I agree with MaraudingDon, WB should really consider giving him a chance - if he wants to write the script of DH at all. This little scene was extremely well-written and most importantly in canon. We can't really expect that from S. Kloves... Ron saying Voldy's name - I can live with that. wink.gif

Ron saying Voldemort was just wrong wrong wrong. Nice to see Peeves get a nod.
