Luna Lovegood's Radish Earrings
© Alli

Supplies
Sculpey
Jewelry wire
Red acrylic paint
Purple acrylic paint

Instructions
Take a small amount of Sculpey and form 2 balls. One ball per earring.

Pinch the end of the ball and pull to form a small 'tail'.

Bend the wire to form an earring, keeping one end long.

Stick the long end of the wire into the top (rounded) part of the ball.

Bake for 15-20 minutes as intructed on Sculpey box.

Once cool, paint using red paint. (To achieve a more realistic color, you can mix some purple with the red)

Let dry, and wear!

Please note that the patterns and tutorials you find here have been designed by Harry Potter fans all over the Internet. The authors alone hold the copyrights and licences to these patterns and tutorials, which means you CANNOT use their patterns to make something that you will sell to others afterwards. You can use them to make things for yourself. You can make some for your friends and ask them to pay for supplies. You CANNOT, however, ask them to pay you to do it as though you had created this pattern by yourself, or try to sell you crafts to a local store.

Think about it. Would you take a Prisoner of Azkaban book, photocopy it, put your name in big red letters on the front cover and try to sell it in your local library? The answer is, obviously, no. Well, selling crafts you have made but not designed would be just as bad!

Also note that the tutorials, recipes and patterns found here have not been tested and that The Leaky Cauldron's Harry Potter Crafts section is not responsible for any mistakes they may contain. If you do find something wrong in one of them, however, please e-mail us to let us know.

On that note, Harry crafting to all!

If you're a fan of podcasts & crafts, or a junkie like me, Craft Borg has a lovely tutorial for Radish Earrings this week. It's almost at the end of the show, but I didn't note the actual time of the segment. They also mention LEAKY CRAFTS (yay!) and talk a bit about Evanna Lynch's earrings.

This topic has been updated with a new tutorial link.

Happy Crafting!

I used the first tutorial to make radish earings for my Luna costume this year, a word of warning to anyone who uses this: The wire tends to fall out of the radishes, even if you bake it on, so be sure to secure it with a bit glue or by hooking the wire around.
Hookedtothepotty
Does anyone have a direct online pattern/ instrutions for making the radish earrings? Do you use red clay for the radishes, and then bake them?
ofenjen
Hi Hookedtothepotty, you can find two tutorials for making Luna's earrings: here and here. You'll find everything you need to know in the tutorials. For drying instructions, you should refer to the manufacturer's directions for the product the tutorial you choose calls for.

Thanks for your question. wizard.gif

ooo- i love them! I'm on a sculpy kick and these are great!
Quick question... How heavy are they to wear?
ofenjen
I have a pair made from paperclay and they're very light. That's about all I can tell you. They were a gift from another crafty friend.

If you do try it out, please let us know if they're heavy. I'm sure that's a question other crafters would have as well. I know I did wonder when I saw the tutorial.
Gingeroot
ok - I made a pair of Luna earings, kind of somewhere inbetween the two tutorials. I used Sculpy, and they aren't that heavy at all (yay!). At least, no worse than any of my other earings.
Here they are! Non-realistic radishes

Hey, good for you! clap.gif

Would you be okay with my putting your photo in the Crafts Gallery?

If you use sculpy clay, and make them the size of actual radishes, pretty heavy sad.gif
Someone earlier said that they had a pair made from paperclay, that might work better.

Professor Gryphon
Good job!

I made a pair of the earrings out of Sculpey, wire, and Swarovski (please tell me I spelled that right!) beads that are fairly small, but light enough for someone used to light stud earrings to wear.
http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r233/el...shearringmy.jpg

I made a set of two, even though only one is pictured.

I also made a cork necklace that looks nothing like Evanna's in the movie.

Well, that's about it... wizard.gif
Josée~Madalia
Both of these look awesome! The Sculpey almost looks like a stone on the picture. Very original! I've seen a lot of raddish earrings and these are definetly unique!

And that cork necklace!! If it wasn't for the fact that those are corks and not stones of some kind, it would actually be something a lot of people would wear every day. I think that's the whole thing with Luna too... she wears the same things as others (necklaces, earrings, hat), but just gives them a twist so they're unique!

Great job! clap.gif
Lomelindi
Elphaba- Your cork necklace is way more like how I imagined her necklace to look like. Movie cork necklace is so boring with just the one cork!
thewatergirl1203

i was looking up where i could get paperclay and found that there is also a product called Delight

QUOTE
Delight™ air dry modeling compound is an exciting new modeling medium. It is pure white in color and extremely soft and easy to shape or mold. This non-toxic material is super clean to work with and picks up details beautifully.

Delight™ holds its form while shaping and then air hardens to create an extraordinarily lightweight (about ½ the weight of Creative Paperclay® by volume) and durable finished piece. Water base paint can be kneaded into Delight™ very easily and without mess to make an infinite range of colors with which to work. Of course, it can be colored with any kind of paint after it's dried.

Sort of off topic, does anyone know what the charm Luna wore around her neck to keep away the Nargles looks like?
PolymerClayTutor
I know it has been awhile since anyone was here, but I just found this today and thought I would share with you the Radish Earrings I made for a costume last fall. They are made with red, orange and translucent Premo polymer clay with a few different greens on the leaves. No paint. Hope you like them!
