In this 10 minute video, Gambon shows off his driving skills, talks about not really understanding any of the roles he plays, chats about playing James Bond and most hilariously, talks about the lies he tells in interviews because he hates them so much. He really is very, very funny !

I saw it when it first came out and when I was... less than fond of Mr. Gambon but this totally changed my mind.

I like Top Gear. It only recently began playing over here and while it is a real boy show it's still quite fun to watch.

I saw this video when it first came out as well, and I liked it too. I thought that Michael Gambon was hilarious, even thought I don't like his portrayal of Dumbledore at all. To me, this video shows that he could be a really great Dumbledore; you can see the twinkle in his eyes and the sense of humour he has, but he just doesn't bother to do the role properly. Oh well, it's a funny video.

I love Top Gear - the Hamster is getting better after his crash, and has been spotted out and about with his wife and kids YAY!! - and I loved Michael Gambon on the show, he was so bad on the track that Jeremy named the last corner "Gambon Coner"!!!

I don't blame Gambon for the portrayal, I like him & he's certainly an entertaining guy. It's the director who has the final say. Gambon will play the role how he's directed to play it. I think Mike Newell is responsible for 'Angry Dumbledore' not Gambon. He's also responsible, incidently, for 'Angry Fred & George' which I don't usually see other people mentioning, even though their fight, after trying to put their names in the Goblet, is just as out of character as Dumbledore's outburst. In the book they burst out laughing!

I agree with you that Gambon has the potential to be a great Dumbledore if he was allowed &/or encouraged to 'twinkle' the way he does here. I think he showed that potential in PoA. At least the OotP director, unlike Newell has read all the books, so maybe...

Maybe though, if people watch this they'll realise he's not treating HP any differently to his other roles, at least he read the script, unlike for Gosford Park apparently!

I absolutely loved this video, simply it shows that anything Sir Gambon says must be taken with a full shaker of salt.

His responses were nothing short of comedy genius. It should remind us to never take anything he says in an interview too seriously, his comments about getting watery eyes and being a ballet dancer are priceless!

Since the reviewer, Carlos, says that "Dumbledore seems to be more like he is in the books," I watched this video of Michael Gambon again. I remembered his playful personality and intelligence, and if he's managed to capture the spirit of Dumbledore, I'll be ecstatic!

Yes, but neither Fred nor George have been knighted or acted for almost 50 years. This guy is a class A actor - it reflects poorly on British acting that this guy doesn't care enough to even attempt to read the books on which his character is based. Someone with almost 50 years of experience should be able to portray his own character without the influence of the director - BUT canon should be consulted.

The car Michael Gambon drove is called a Chevorlet Lacetti in the UK (and here in Ireland, my dad drives an estate version) and most of Europe although some markets call it a Nubira but, as with a lot of GM produced cars it goes under a lot of Aliases around the world.
Visually identical models are currently also sold as Chevrolet Nubira in some European markets, Chevrolet Optra and Chevrolet Optra5 (hatchback) in Canada, Mexico, Philippines, Central America, South America, India, Pakistan, Arabia, Southeast Asia, and South Africa, Suzuki Forenza and Suzuki Reno (hatchback) in the USA, Buick Excelle HRV (hatchback) in China, and Holden Viva in Australia and New Zealand. The hatchback version has recently been launched in India as Chevrolet SRV. As of 2007, the first generation Lacetti remains in production and is still sold as the Chevrolet Optra in Canada.
The Buick Excelle sedan assembled and marketed in China features an updated exterior.

Two other men related to the Harry Potter universe have also appeared on the Top Gear 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment in its first version (With a Suzuki Liana.)
Bloomsbury Audiobook Narrator Stephen Fry appeared around 2003 and posted a pretty terrible time. Unfortuantly no mention is made of his involvement with the Harry Potter stories during the interview (although a little hint during his lap) but its still a funny interview none the less.

Also having a stab at the lap is Peter Pettigrew actor Timothy Spall. Now unfortunatly there is no one clip of his interview on the programme but I did find a 6 part recording of the entire episode he appeared on and the interview is on a split point of the episode so its in two parts. Part 1 starts about 5:30 into the clip and of course Part 2 starts straight away. Harry Potter is mentioned in the interview and of course Gambon gets a mention. Funny clips Do enjoy.

I thought that he did wonderful on the interview... too bad that he can't show that personality a little when he's DD. I mean I thought that DD was a funny old man and I don't understand why RH can't see that... Has he ever read the books?

Been a fan of Top Gear and I always want to know why the last corner was called "Gambon." So finally I looked it up on YouTube and that is funny and the crowd reaction. Its amazing how he doesn't gave out that "I was in Harry Potter" feel, but when you seen him act, he can.

I love this video so much I have saved it to watch whenever I need cheering up.

The lies he tells in interviews, the one about the Kettle drum just cracks me up thinking about it.

I thought from watching this that he is basically 'muggle' Dumbledore, and there is potential to add his eccentricity into the HP films and occasionally you see it in POA and OotP. But I blame the scriptwriters personally.

By the way Gambon is considered one of the most powerful stage actors around. He is appearing in Pinter with fellow HP star David Bradley soon and I think I may go and see it.
