Harry Potter 101 came about after a comment from
DavidEnglish regarding the need for threads that explained theories and summarized research. Our moderators, along with a team of experts on various topics responded with Harry Potter 101.
Within this forum you'll find closed threads filled with research on characters and theories. If the theory is out there - we've got the discussion in one of our HP 101 threads!
In each thread you'll find...
- Summarization of Long-Topics
- Links to academic research on topics
- Links to previous threads regarding topics
- Links to Essays and discussion on topics
Please use this thread to make suggestions on theories you'd like to hear about.
Thanks everyone, and happy theorizing!

This is a great idea!
Am I blind? Where is info on Hermione?
I'd also like a thread on the Weasley family, (aside from Ron).

Evreka don't worry, Hermione is on her way, she's just been delayed by a day or two due to stray Hippogriffs on the line

what about one for the black family tree?
and one on the dursley's - one thread containing info about the individual characters and the family as a whole.

I want a thread for the "Harry is a Horcrux" theory! I mean, I know it's grisly, and gloomy, and none of us WANT it to happen, I strongly believe that's what's going to happen.
I also wanna say that I love this forum idea! It's great to see all the theories laid out for everyone to see!

There's nothing on the Hogwarts subjects. I'd be interested to see more information on the more obscure subjects, i.e. Arithmancy, Ancient Runes, Astronomy, etc. etc.

I think it would be useful to have a topic that covers everything that is pre - Harry starting at Hogwarts and/or a topic about James and Lily, like everything when Lily and James were at Hogwarts, why James and Snape hated each other, what happened the night Jmaes and Lily died, why did James change to please Lily etc
Also maybe a topic to all things Muggle eg the Dursley discussion threads

I'm really interested in older characters such as teachers and members of the Order. I don't know if characters like Tonks and Kingsley, McGonagall and Flitwick would get their own character threads or if maybe you'd combine it into an Order thread and a faculty thread or whatever but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.
Great work on it all! This is a great addition to the Lounge!

I can't believe no body has mentioned Quidditch yet. The most popular (and apparently only) sport in the wizarding world is introduced in this book, and is one of the core themes throughout the series. Whether Jo likes it or not.

How about the romances in the books? Not just Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione. How about Ron/Lavender, Tonks/Lupin, Draco/Pansy, Hagrid/Mmd. Maxime? The dynamics of the character relationships. I was a huge shipper, so I would really enjoy something along those lines.
SillyPutty

there is a thread already on shipping that has all the active information on the boards and that we could find on the relationships within the books... if you feel taht we missed a thread please feel free to PM myself or the person who created the thread with a link to said thread.

The Quidditch Thread is officially up and running! Keep posting requests, guys; your requests help us get the right information to you!
ETA: The Dursley Thread is also good to go. It has links to the Dursley Family as a whole first, and then each character is broken down by topics surrounding each one of them.

Hi i am new here, i have some theory abt the book seven which i would like to share. i want your opinion abt my theory.
This theories r based on some off the rumours i heard.
1.I think Petunia was a Witch. I think she went to Hogwarts to study but got expelled because of some reason. I think because of this she hates magic. This theory is based on the rumour i heard abt Petunia never using magic & Rowling saying there is more to her than meets the eye.
2.The room where Sirius disappeared or supposed to be killed also called the death chamber is a room connecting the world off the living with the dead. Sirius is presently traped in there & cannot come out. But i think Dumblebore Spirit will help Sirius to escape from there.
3.After destroying the four Horcruxes Harry would destory Voldemort's body but won't be able to destory his soul. In an attempt to destroy it Harry would take Voldemort's soul in his body & destroy himself with it.
I don't know whether i should have posted this here or not.

This isn't actually any specific theory I would like added, but have you considered unlocking the threads so that anyone could post additional information about a certain theory/character? I suppose it might be hard to prevent debates about the theories from breaking out, but I think if you added a reminder in each thread that this is not the place for debate about the theories, simply information, that most Leaky Loungers would abide.
Just a thought.
By the way, I love this idea for a board. Very helpful

I have a request for a theory discussion. Does anyone know when previous HP book titles where released, and about how long after we found that out did the actual book come out? This could give us a good idea when to expect #7!
I know it's been theorized on this site that 7.7.07 would be an appropriate date. Will this suggestion fit in with the timing now?
Thanks! I love this site.

Ravenclaws_HeirI'll take it under consideration but I think you pointed out the biggest reason why they might be better off remained closed. It could get bogged down with theory dicussion where we only want links to other threads and information on those theories and topics. However for now you can certainly post thread topics here for us to add if you feel there are any that would be good for the various topics and theory discussions we have going.
Charmed14We have a thread discussion on book release dates in Unfogging Deathly Hallows with thread
07.07.07 the link is directly to a post that answers your question about release dates.

Thank you for your interest. And yes, that might be a good topic for information and links, if any. I might also see if I can find any links to some relevant publishing information so that you can see what might be involved and why it takes about six months from release to publication. For instance, I remember a 2003 article BBC news published on its website describing the steps needed to get Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix published.

candyf66, you will find suitable links in which to post your theories among the topics listed in the HP101 index.
This thread, called Character Thread: Tom Marvolo Riddle/Lord Voldemort, draws together what threads are available for discussing him on Leaky Lounge, and the Unfogging Deathly Hallows thread,
How Voldemort will be defeated, Part 5 would be just the place to post your theories. As it is a pinned topic, you will find it in the first part of the screen as you access the index of topics in the forum, Unfogging Deathly Hallows.

I have a theory that good and evil are defined in the books by the placement of self in the world. If you are on the side of good, you are willing to sacrafice everything (including your lives) for others...if you are evil, you are willing to do anything, including hurt physically and psychologically and kill, to further yourself or your cause. Is this a good theory to discuss?

Are you requesting a topic here to draw together the many places to discuss your theory, defining good and evil? Some likely current threads in the
Book Club include:
Ethics and morality or
Lord Voldemort-Is he really evil? These two topics discuss good and evil in the context of Book 1, Philosopher's Stone/Sorcerer's Stone only but there are other more general topics elsewhere.
The
Obscurus forum discusses good and evil in threads like
Christian symbolism in the Harry Potter series Part 2 , which relate people's beliefs to the HP series. Or typing in good and evil in the search function at the top right hand corner of your screen brings up
HP and the game of Poker! plus
HP and Jane Eyre, The similarities between the two books. In that forum, subjects like Alchemy or Chess could also discuss what is meant by good and evil. There is already a topic here drawing together information,
Alchemy for beginners in which you might find useful links.
Also there are many threads in the
Unfogging Deathly Hallows forum discussing how the series will end in which you would be able to discuss your ideas defining good and evil in that context. Much more is available, including discussing good and evil in the cases of individual characters in
Notable Magical Names.
