This month's featured artist's artwork speaks for itself.
(Thanks to Hagiographer13 for the montage!)With pieces rich in color, depth and lots of detail, Caladan has a great talent for capturing and illustrating some of the most poignant canon scenes...
(see here in it's full size)… But Caladan also has a lovely variety of fanon art in their album as well, such as this piece of Order members listening to a Quidditch match.
(see here in it's full size)You can view Caladan's stunning artwork in our Fanart Galleries

I love Caladan's work! The richness of texture and delightful eye for detail makes for a very visually-satisfying experience!
The fact that s/he works in both the canon and "fanon" realms of imagery is a bonus! I am especially impressed that Jo's world--so awesomely detailed on the page--can be tranlated so well to canvas in the hands of master like this.
My favourite Caladan work--Dumbledore and Aberforth at the pub, which you can see in our FanArt Gallery
here. It has just the right amount of whimsey!

I love Caladan's work!! I especially love the pieces featuring Lupin. Caladan's interpretation of Lupin is so close to how I imagine him. I especially love the Lupin pieces where Lupin is interacting with Harry. Caladan does an amazing job of portraying how Lupin loves Harry, but also sees James and Lily in Harry, so is grieving for them at the same time. A favorite of mine is Lupin holding Harry while Harry tries to reach for Sirius after he falls into the veil. I love how Lupin holds Harry and how you can see the pain in his eyes as he faces this challenge of not only loosing his best friend, but having to help Harry understand that Sirius is gone. I also love the Halloween picture. Caladan really captures Sirius' and Lupin's lonliness, being cooped up in Grimmauld Place, but also their lonliness without James and Lily. Caladan is truly a talented artist and I love his/her work!!

. My favourite character is Lupin and I adore looking at great fan art of him. Caladan produces
really great fan art! The Veil scene is so heartbreaking and Caladan has captured it perfectly. I only hope that WB do a good a job.

What I like about Caladan's work is that it is very unique in detail. S/he's invented all the details of the wizarding world, the clothes, the hairstyles, the ornamentation on the furniture - that sort of thing. Many artists (myself included) draw on fashions more or less already existing in our (Muggle) world, but Caladan invents a complete style - which is completely in keeping with canon, since there seems to be a big discrepancy between wizard clothes and Muggle clothes.
Caladan's style is also instantly recognisable, and I like the texturing of the pictures. Personally, I prefer the scenes with more dynamics - my favourite is the scene from the DoM Battle. As I put in the comment, I like the build-up of action from Neville on the floor, to Harry, to Lupin - and Malfoy's reaction.
The Lightning-Struck Tower is also good. Dumbledore reminds me of William Blake's drawings there.
(Sorry I can't make clickies right now because the site seems to be down or something)
Have gushed over the uniqueness of Caladan's style, I guess I'm kinda contradicting myself when I say that sometimes I find the faces - mostly the eyes - all look a bit the same. The characters often have a similar profile. That's my only point of criticism though.

I agree.
Caladan is one of the first fan artist I found (after Makani and Marta). As Tom Scribble points out I love how their work is different from other fanartists that i have seen in the past, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it. I just love their use of color and style. It is because of these differencest that I love to use their work for Icons. The work that
~Mrs.Brisby~ pointed out lead to one of my favorite icons)
Not only are their colored works amazing, but so are their sketches. While many of the ones I have seen are just sketches on yellow lined paper, the artist still is able to caputre great detail in these drawings.

This is very true. Another of my favorite illustrations from Caladan is this sketch with no color:

The detail is amazing. From Dumbledore's robes to the detail on the ground and on the doorstep. I love the look on Dumbledore's face too. I think what I love most about Caladan's work is the amount of Dumbledore illustrations she does. Dumbledore's my favorite character and she depicts him perfectly, IMHO. I love the "Ages of Dumbledore"

Same here! I like how they are able to capture the scars on Lupin's face so well and also his youthfulness, but at the same time he is so old and worn down. I really think that is the reason that brought me to this fan art. It also Helps that their rendering of Tonks is pretty dead on to what I see also. This leads to their Tonks/Lupin pairings being some of my favorite (however I wont' lie, I also enjoy the Tonks/Scrimjeaour pairing even if I never see it happening in JKR's world)

I too very much like the way Lupin is portrayed. You've captured the spirit of him well.
I could go on and on and on, but I'll just say I am so happy you share your work in the Leaky Fanart Gallery! Keep it coming!
On a technical note, I am curious as to how you get such incredible texture in your work. Please use simple words!

Caladan is rapidly becoming one of my favourite FanArtists! Even though we are dealing in 2 dimensions here, there is a wonderful third-dimensional quality to her work. The breadth and depth of the
texture of her images is so appearent, even in this digital form.
My favourite character of hers is Tonks, who is featured in this laugh-out-loud drawing with Lupin,

As dramatic as the canon scenes
Caladan has produced, some of my absolute favourites border more on the
fanon side of the coin. Her sense of humour is so evident in these images, but that doesn't detract from her signature wealth of detail and texture.
A perfect example of this
fanon type of art is this imagined scene between Dumbledore brothers
Albus and Aberforth in the Hogshead Inn.

Cheers Caladan, these have been a real pleasure to look through and they are all great. A small detail I've liked are the long strands of Tonks' fringe which I think are very imaginative and add something to her character.
I particularly like this one:

The first I've seen to get across the sense of strength associated with old man Dumbledore.

I agree! The Dumbledore ones are some of my favorites also! It's so hard for me to imagine Dumbledore young, because we mostly see him in the books as an old seriousish person. Caladan illustrates Dumbledore in a way that allows me to envision the younger Dumbledore pictured. One who is more care free and not worried about Dark Lords. I also love how Fawkes id shown. So colorful!

With the "Snape-debate" raging, I find it fascinating to see the FanArtists' take on this intriguing and complex character . . .
Caladan's Snape is somewhat stark . . . and his physical attitude seems to mirror his ambiguous psychological one.
