What would your wand be made of? Maybe an easy question, maybe not but we know that Rowling put a lot of thought into the wands of her characters. They each represent something of that person and gives us a clue of who they are, maybe put together by coincidence or on purpose.

Information on Woods: Celtic Tree Astrology.

Not all the woods on the list are on the celtic tree list but pulled from the book as well. Same with the cores.

So what wood and core mix would you have? Please list what ones you choose and if you feel like it tell us why.
Linia
My wand wood would be willow, the Willow has always been my favorite tree so therefore I was surprised to find that it is the one on the chart that matches up with my birthdate (May 5th). My core would be unicorn hair just because I have always loved unicorns, and used to have a very large collection of ceramic unicorns when I was younger.
hedwig2323
I took a wand test at quizilla some time ago and my result was mahogany and dragon heartstring. I didn't see mahogany on that list, but from what we know from canon (mostly about James and his wand) I think it would fit me since its supposed to be good for transfiguration and I think I'd really love doing transfiguration. Its also sort of an exotic wood and I do have quite an interest in exotic cultures, ideas and art.

I agree with Linia, though, that willows are really cool trees.
SillyPutty
I voted on Willow and DragonHeartString.

Willow because I love the tree and sitting under them calms me. Dragon Heart String - my fiery personality of course biggrin.gif
Phoenix_226
I voted Vine and Dragon Heartstring. According to my birthday, I should have oak, but the description didn't fit me at all. The vine description fit me better. Also for Dragon Heartstring, I picked it because it may not be immediately apparent but I have a very strong personality.
Ioli
I voted for vine and unicorn hair, I don't know why, but as soon as I saw the choices I thought that they suited me better... Maybe because I think that vine is a really flexible wood, and if I was a witch I would have loved to have flexible and diverse magic abilities, whilst I consider unicorns as the most powerful, beautiful and pure and kind magical creatures, and that's how I wanted my magic to be...
fantasyfangirl
I voted for Alder wood because I definitely prefer to be self-reliant and independent. I also voted for the phoenix tail feather as my core because I'm fascinated by how the phoenix constantly dies and is reborn, and I feel kind of the same way. I'm constantly evolving and growing and I'm definitely not the same person I was when I was younger.(Hopefully in a good way!) biggrin.gif
Shard
My wand would be Ash wood with Pheonix tail feather 11-1/2 inches. Ash is my celestial birthwood and Pheonix because I that is my favorite Fantasy creature so why not?
snapelvr
I would have a hawthorn wand preferably with a chocolate caramel core....just in case I got hungry biggrin.gif

Really though, thanks for that link to the descriptions, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The Hawthorn description was pretty spot on for me, and I think I'd have to opt for the dragon heartstring to match my personality (fire breather would be a kind description and it would have nothing to do with me needing a breath mint.)
Kermit
I chose oak because according to the link to Druidical woods, that is what applies to my birth date. I like to have "truth and steadfast knowledge." I may have chosen eucalyptus wood to remind me of where I grew up if I had not read the link with its meanings. I chose other for the core. I was thinking that maybe Centaur hair would be nice for the core because I would like to have knowledge of the future and be able to "read" the stars.

http://www.dutchie.org/Tracy/tree.html#willow This place is pretty indepth.

Hawthorn and Faery Wings.

SnapesSister
I chose Hawthorn, because that applies to my birth date, and it described my personality quite accurately!

Phoenix tail feather, because I love the idea that they are loyal, and the idea of rebirth from the ashes.
HPluvr13
I voted for Willow, it's my birthdate and it also describes me pretty well. Willow trees are also really pretty and unique. My core would probably be a Phoenix tail feather...for the same reason as Shard biggrin.gif . Mine probably wouldn't be very long or heavy, perhaps 9 1/2 inches and flexible.
shadow_onthesun
rosewood and veela hair for me. it seems a very magical combination for me.
PotionsPro
Willow according to my birthday, and I just had to choose dragon heartstring. Dragons are awesome smile.gif
Puzzlepiece
Ash and Dragon Heartstring (wishful thinking). I think the dragon heartstring suits me, and I love ash. I have a wooden karate bow made of ash, and I love its weight and its feeling. Ash is also a very powerful wood, traditionally.
Whatknot
The Ive Tree.. 30 September - 27 October - The power of the Ivy to cling and bind made it a potent symbol of determination and strength. Ivy can strange trees and was a portent of death and spiritual growth. Ivy people are restless, socialble and good natured. Cheerful, expnasive and magnetic, they win friends easily and dislike offending others. Although often indecisive, they are not weak willed and tackle difficult tasks with infectious optimism.

wizard.gif My birth date wood really does fit me fairly well... better than most of the others... it's kind of creepy. I'm not sure which core. I've never liked the idea of dragon heartstring, poor dragon. How many dragons have to die just for a few wands? But besides that I'm not sure... veela hair would be different.
MJLeakyCon
Well, I'm a Virgo, so Vine is my wood. I think that I would also have Dragon Heartstring as my core. It is just something that I believe I identify with. I'm drawn to it...I really can't explain why. I think it's because some of the characters that I closely identify with have Dragon Heartstring as their wand core. Is there anything else that indicates to us what our "core" would be?

I haven't been able to find anything when I was looking up the cores. I think that it depends on the personality of the person maybe?
*ellen marine*
Rosewood, because it's quite soporific and I'm often very sleepy! biggrin.gif

I put "other" for the core - though there's nothing in canon to suggest it's possible (but then again, Ollivander seems quite choosy about his wand core substances) I'd like a Thestral tail-hair. I just love them ^_^

Ooh, a Thestral tail-hair would be rather interesting...not too many would be able to spot one to get a hair though, which would make it even more of a rarity I'd imagine... =)

I chose Mahogany, because it's a tropical tree (and I love me the tropics) and I'm rather fond of its reddish-brown color. I chose Unicorn hair as my core, because I love horses and think they're magical creatures in their own right, and a Unicorn is the closest thing!
BookwormofHP
Hazel for my birthday... celtic lore says it's a tree of wisdom so i chose phoenix tail feather becuase the image of a phoenix that I had in my head from reading the books and the fact that Dumbledore, who I think to be a wise man, owns a phoenix. I always thought that they were wise.
dajaki
My wand is Holly (after one of my daughters) and the core is unicorn hair (after the other daughter who, when we painted our house last year, suggested a purple rainbow and unicorn mural - didn't happen, we went with tan).
samscool
I chose reed because it makes me think of ponds in the countryside at midnight where witches pick fluxweed... Also, unicorn tail-hair i chose because it seems calmer than the fiery dragon or phoenix.
Narya
In Celtic tree lore, elder represents my birth month - it's a symbol of protection and can be used to undo evil magic. I chose a phoenix feather as the core of the wand, because of its uniqueness and its beauty.
innkeeper_tom
The wand: has to be Ash - my birthdate and the description.

The core: I'm not sure - other therefore. My favourites are Transfiguration and Potions, so probably hair from a shapechanger, a metamorphmagus or animagus perhaps?

edit: punctuation
moony_lupin
I voted for elder wood beacuse it corresponds with my birth date. My core would be unicorn hair. It would be interesting to find out what my wand would be capable of.
Alanah_Gryfindor_gal
I voted for rosewood and pheonix feather. I dont know why but I just like the sound of it LOL lol.gif
Hatun punchaw
Wood: Prosopis tamarugo (http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=PRTA2)
Core: trelke-wecufe hair (http://www.mapuche.info/mapuint/Barrenechea020500.pdf page 62, in castilian... i found no sources in english)
Cheering_Charms
Well, my tree is Hawthorne. I am happy with that because I think it suits me tongue.gif I also chose unicorn hair because I have always liked unicorns lol.gif

My wand would be from an elder tree. I was originally thinking of a maple tree because it is common where I live, but for my birthdate, Nov. 30, it is the elder tree. I am definitely high energy and restless.

For the core of my wand, it would be a phoenix tail feather. One of the things that phoenixes are known for is their loyalty and I have that in abundance.
chanel24
My wand by my birth date would be Alder (March 30th).
Smartaps_2
My wand according to the chart is to be of Vine. And I chose Phoenix Feather because..well it is such a magical bird and so grand!!
Amy Padfoot Black
Alder, according to when my birthday is. And the core would be a... Phoenix tail feather... Or a dragon heartstring... Either will do! smile.gif
Wolfheart
Going by the Celtic list and explanations, I'd probably have a reed wood wand (though ivy is my birth wood). Usually, however, I picture myself with a mahogany wand. Either one works for me. I would definitely have a dragon heartstring core though. Dragons are extremely powerfully magical creatures and I've always thought that I'd enjoy and be talented in Transfiguration, which takes quite a bit of power (at least according to Ollivander, I believe). My wand length would be 12 3/4 inches.
Jenn211
I would definatly have a mahagony wand with a phoenix feather because the combination I think is strong. Mahagony is strong and sturdy and I love the phoenix and everything it represents. The combination is strength and compassion/healing/loyalty. Its awesome.

My wand wood by birthdate is Rowan -
Trance Myth
My wand would be made of Almond wood, it is considered to be the tree of life, blooming while there is still snow on the ground. Its properties stimulate insight and artistic creation. As for the core... I'd want something from a phoenix but not a tail feather, maybe there is a way to put a very slim vial of phoenix tears in as the core.

This combination would give me strong healing, artistic powers and a strong sense of compassion.
JeffHpFan
Looking at the list on the site- I would be a "Vine."
I chose my core as a Phoenix Feather, because they are brave, noble, and notable creatures that actually amaze me.
Serpentz
I choose "Holly" because that is my daughter's name, and also In many other ways I love Christmas Holly, you really do know that its Winter when you see it.

For my wand core, I choose Phoenix Feather, because I love Fawkes as a Character and it represents alot.
shantih
Vine with Phoenix feather. Vine according to my birthday (and the description suits me perfectly!) and Phoenix feather because I love the Phoenix mythology.
LukeFM
Although I was born after the dates shown, the description for oak matches me perfectly... weird. Plus, pheonixes are far cooler than dragons and unicorns - and Ollivander disapproves of any other core types.
redshelle74
Ivy fits me perfectly, weird. My birthday falls in that time frame, and the description is soooo me. For the core I picked Unicorn hair, mainly because I like unicorns, and couldn't decide which to pick (see, so Ivy I hate making decisions unsure.gif ) smile.gif
potterfan6
Mine would be Mahogany and Dragon Heartstring as I was playing a game on the net and It was that wand choosing thing and mine was Mahogany and Heartstring.(Or something very close to that).
penguin1124
mine would be willow with a griffin feather as the core
unicorn_lover
I voted "Other" with the wood and DragonHeartString which surprises me because I love unicorns so much but I still voted Dragon Heartstring. I'm surprised on how my brain works sometimes anyways:
Wand: Strawberry and Dragon Heartstring, seven inches biggrin.gif
Strawberries rock! sweet yet sour...pink and red...7 inches, not too short, not too long
Alexandra Ollivander
Im the only person to have had Birch!! . . .Birch rules
I was born on Christmas eve yay biggrin.gif It weird how much the Celtic Tree Astrology was like me, I've never been very good at showing affection but I always make an effort to be loyal.

QUOTE
The Druic Animal - The white stag symbolises high ideals and aspirations - Birch people need a goal in life or they become depressed and pessimistic.

I chose Unicorn hair as it's the closest thing to a white stag that can go in a wand. The second part of that quote from the site made me laugh, it's true, I can't deny it, if I'm idle for too long (like when I'm sick for quite a while) then I become the most frustrated person ever lol.gif

I'd have 11 inches just because I like the number 11 biggrin.gif

stellasofia
I am reed, as it was a writing untensil and I love to write, and I think I would have a raven feather core, as I am "in" Ravenclaw and have always felt a certian affinity for ravens even as I cannot stand birds.
Luna Canis Stubbs
My wand would be an Alder and its core would be a Phoenix tail feather. It is in Rowling's homepage.
Eleonore
Funny, that I come across this topic now. I always was unsure about the wood I wanted to have for my wand, but yesterday I spotted such a beautiul cherry tree...

So, cherry and phoenix feather or me.
Mistressofthedarkarts
Ash with phoenix feather. Ash because it's not only my astrological wood, but it fits me perfectly, and I've always loved phoenixes and birds in general.
