The Leaky Cauldron's Fan Art Gallery has recently reopened! To celebrate, The Leaky Cauldron invites you to participate in a new Fan Art Contest. We are looking for original artwork based upon Deathly Hallows.

Fan Art Competition

Artist Requirements:

• Depict a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, include a brief description of 100 words or less, referencing the scene and chapter title.
• There is a strict PG-13 rating for all artworks and must abide to the Fan Art Gallery Rules
• There will be two categories for submissions:
  1. Hand-Drawn - submissions must be drawings or paintings.
  2. Computer-Generated or Digital Art - submissions must be drawing or painting-based.
• You must specify which category your art fits into – any use of a computer program whatsoever upon your art (except for necessary resizing) will require it to be classed as ‘computer generated’.
• Photographs or manipulated photographs will not be accepted.
• Animated entries will not be accepted.
• If you wish to submit an entry in the form of a comic strip, it must contain no more than 5 frames.
• If you wish to include text in your entry (e.g. speech bubbles) it must be canon – i.e. the words spoken by the character/s in the book
• You may create your piece using any two-dimensional medium, but must specify the medium/s used in its creation.
• All submissions must be solely the artist’s creation; any artwork found to include the work of others will be disqualified immediately.
• Submissions will be accepted in .jpg, .png, or .gif format.
• All submissions must be both a) e-mailed to contests@the-leaky-cauldron.org with the category included in the subject line (i.e. "DH Fan Art - Hand Drawn” or “DH Fan Art - Computer Generated”) and b) Included in your fanart portfolio in the Leaky Fan Art Gallery, and tagged "Deathly Hallows Fan Art Contest".
• Deadline for submissions is 11:59 p.m. EST September 30, 2007 Sunday, October 14th
• Please refer to our FAQ if you are not sure of something or to the Fan Art Gallery FAQ if it is in regards to the gallery.

Judging:

• There will be a limit of two entries per person to make the competition fair for everyone.
• Three winners will be chosen from each submission category based upon their interpretation of the scene from the book.
• Anyone over the age of 13 can submit a Fan Art, including Staff members who are not involved in the judging process.
• Only one person from Staff will receive the submissions, and will remove the artist’s name before they are passed on to the Judges.
• All decisions by our Judges are final.

We have a side note on the contest rules!

It currently asks for everyone to e-mail all submissions to the contest e-mail address and submit it to your Leaky Fan Art Portfolio with the proper tag. Right now, though the FA Gallery is up, it is not taking new members. That feature is currently down. For the time being, please continue to submit your entries to the contest e-mail address (contests@the-leaky-cauldron.org). No one will be penalized for not submitting their entry to the FA Gallery. If you're already a member, please submit your work to the FA Gallery and tag it as usual and e-mail your entries to the contest e-mail address!

We'll post here when the FA Gallery is taking new members.

Deadline for submissions has changed!

Due to the fact the Fan Art Galleries still aren't taking new members, the deadline for the contest has been extended to Sunday, October 14th by 11:59pm (EST).

You still will not be penalized if you were not able to add your artwork to the galleries. We're hoping this will be fixed before the new deadline is over, though. Please still e-mail your submissions to contests@the-leaky-cauldron.org

Wow! The winners are spectacular! I'd seen a couple of them, but most were new to me, which is mildly shocking, because I'm a fan art addict! Congrats, everyone!

Are we able to see all the entries anywhere? Or what would be the best site for fanart in general?

There are lots of good fan art pictures in the Leaky Cauldron's galleries, but Deviant Art has a load of them, too, and many are spectacular. I couldn't possibly list all the artists here, but you can PM me if you want to know. I love to put interpretations of canon scenes in my reading group discussions here at the Leaky, so I end up looking through a lot of them and finding fantastic artists and great art. Have fun looking!

Yay! I won a prize with my lilly and snape pictures! I am so happy!

You can always check the Leaky FanArt Galleries here for more fanart work. The artwork of all entries was supposed to be uploaded to the site and tagged, but the Galleries aren't taking new members. We'll look into it about getting the artwork added by a staff member rather than the actual artists as originally planned.
