LeakyCon 2009? I am wanting to, but i can't seem to book flights this far in advance! Its soooooo anoying. And not to mention the price of flights from the UK. But i am determined to go. I am going to Accio 08, but i want to go leakycon since i cant go to Terminus. If anyone is from the UK and going to Leakycon 09, please let me know where you get your flights from please!
Also im hoping accommodation can be booked through the leakycon site cos booking thru the actual hotels site costs 3000 odd dollars. and im like 'what the heck!' lol anyway, anyone going?

I'd like to go, but I'll have to decide as the date gets closer. I live on the west coast of the US right now, but might be moving to the east coast this year, so at least I'd be closer. I am planning on going to at least one day of Terminus this year - I'm hoping to convince my dad to come with me.

I want to go!!!

But there are so many factors as of right now that might get in the way. Like school, lack of money, lack of permission ... though if I get the first two out of the way, the third won't be a problem, cuz I'll go no matter what my parents say, I am 18 after all.
I've never been to an HP convention, and I want my first to be with yall. I want to meet you! Touch you! Smell you! ... Ok, that sounds weird, lol, but really, I want to meet some of you badly.

We'll see. I'm really going to try to go. It'd be cool if some of us could get together and maybe get the same hotel or something, maybe even share the expenses ... cuz I mean, it is expensive, and some of us aren't rich.

*sigh* Only time will tell.

I wish I could go! But there are a few factors that stop me from going:
1) I'm going to Terminus this summer and really don't have the money to go to another conference next year
2) I believe that I will still be in school May 21-24
3) I don't have the money to register, get a hotel, and fly all the way to boston regardless of Terminus. Chicago is the closest city where there's been a conference so far to where I live.

Well, not actually 'skip' it. Just tell them I am leaving for those days, just like I would do if I was going on vacation. As long as you tell them ahead of time, they have no problem (just as long as you make up your work, of course).

1) Moose, you rock. HP is about universal love and acceptance...and so is Leaky.
2) This is the first one of these gigs were (LeakyCon) has ever put together. We have had some amazing support from people who have helped organized conventions in the past, as well as a great staff working to get every detail organized.
3) This whole thing is for charity. Meaning that all proceeds will be divided between the HP Alliance and BookAid International. We are talking about charities that help out NOT ONLY in the US, but globally. You know the saying "think global, act local"? Yes, that's kind of our inspiration at this point in time.
We are working on all sorts of things for this event...we have a lot of exciting things in the hopper. Lots of ideas are getting fleshed out, and I think that, if you can make it to the event, you will have an amazing time. Great fandom time, great fandom friends, all for 2 amazing causes. How can that be wrong? OHHH, and the hotel rate we got is outstanding...but you will learn about all that when registration opens (which there is no exact date for...keep checking LeakyNews.com for an announcement).
If you have specific questions about the event, please don't hesitate to e-mail
help@leakycon.com, and James will get back with you as quickly as he can. Otherwise, if you have general questions, check out
LeakyCon's website, or post comments here. I will try to check back in her at least once a week.

See, I wish I could say that about my parents. Yeah, its always good to tell them ahead of time ... but for me, I'd have to say something like: "Ok, there's this thing happening, and I know its far away, and I know you probably won't like it, but I'm going anyways, whether you say yes or no!" and then you tell them.

I honestly think that they'll say its up to me, that its my money, my school time, everything ... it'll make me doubt, sure, make me feel guilty, but I'll live.

The hotels in Boston are very expensive but you can also stay outside of Boston for more reasonable rates. The problem would then be transportation, you would need to rent a car. My daughter lives, with very little traffic, about 30 to 45 minutes outside of Boston. There's a lovely travel inn there that's only about $120.00 a night. There are two double beds and a nice big couch for sleeping. If you have friends and chip in this would be very reasonable. There are motels like Holiday Inn in all the smaller towns around Boston too.

-Depends on when my exams are at the college I transfer to. If they're before LeakyCon, it'd be great!
-My siblings will still be in school then, so they might not be able to go. And my mom will still be at work since she works in a school. None of my friends are huge fans, so I hope my family will be able to go. If they can't, I probably can't. Plus my youngest sister won't be 14 yet. Still lots of time for planning, though!

I dunno, I just checked for mine today and they're all somewhere between 600-800$ for the round-trip flight from BC Canada. California might be a little less since it's still in the same country as LeakyCon. And boo to me being sick this weekend, leaving the thing I work at about twice a year because of it, and not able to earn any money to put towards LC yet.

Make sure you guys all check out the website for any other questions you might have, a lot of them are answered on the website, along with some emails you can use if you have any questions that aren't answered. (Although things are still in the early stages and more will come later)
LeakyCon '09 WebsiteAnother note for any potential airfair shoppers, United now charges $25 for a second bag (per person) on the plane. (Not counting carry-on) If you need the second bag, you are charged the $25 dollars, but for those who don't, I think that means that your ticket would be $25 dollars less than it would have been before the new change.
KimmyBlair
Feb 18 2008, 04:58 PM
For those of you talking about Airfair prices, try Southwest Airlines. While Southwest does not fly into Boston, it does fly into nearby Providence RI, which is an hour away. If enough people could get together to then travel from Providence to Boston it may be a much cheaper way to go. If you catch a sale Southwest can have airfair under $80 one way. It's something to look into.

Depending on where you live you can also check out Amtrak. I have taken it from New York Penn Station to Boston Back Bay Station and South Station (both in Boston). The fare varies by time of day and the Acela is more expensive but faster.
You can stay outside of Boston and take the commuter rail into the city if you want a less expensive place to stay.

I'll definitely be going. There might be a conflict with my Finals week (from what I can tell of this years scheduled Finals week), but we'll see what happens when that comes. Either way, I will be there even if its for half of the con. I don't think flights will be TOO expensive. But they will be up there. I'm getting about a average of $350-400 round-trip. Which isn't THAT bad. I won't spend over $400 for a plane ticket, and thats only because I'm cheap. LOL. Flights from CA to Boston I'd look at Jetblue, Alaska Airlines, and American Airlines, their prices seem to be the lowest of airlines for most direct flights.
I suggest for the people who are really low on money (ME!) to fill up a room for 4 people. A room for 4 people for four nights would be $189 (plus taxes). But thats only for the four days of the con. I'll probably switch hotels after that (if I can find a good/cheap one), for the days I just want to stay and see the city. So I'm thinking just for the basics (plane & hotel), for me, its going to be about $600-700 which seems like a lot to me, but I have a feeling thats going to be deal.
I have another option. Which is that my parents are Sunterra Resort owners, and they can trade points (or something, don't know about that stuff) with certain hotels. And the Marriot Custom House in Boston is one of them. But you have to stay there for 7 day, but its only 2.3 miles(10 min) away from Boston Park Plaza. I'd think I'd go with this option only if my family comes with me, or some other friends want to stay there with me. Other than that, I don't think would stay there on my own, and have to bother with not being in the same hotel as the con, plus the transport back and forth. But will see, I won't be picky.

189.00 per night is a fantastic rate for Boston. I may just take the family for a vacation- only problem is finding a baby sitter for 8 animals. If a hotel is out of anyones budget, try looking into bed & breakfasts, New England has plenty of them and the rates vary.

i really, really want to go to leakycon! i wanted to go to a convention this summer, but i can't take off work. i hope i can find some friends to go with me to boston. my boyfriend is not a huge potter fan (he's one of those that only watches the movies and as such has no idea what's really going on). he's a huge baseball fan, though, so maybe there will be a red soxs game at the same time as the conference. i wish i knew more potter fans close to where i live. is anyone from memphis, tn? i have a couple of friends that read the books, but they're not as passionate about it as i am. my brother would have wanted to go to conference with me, but he died five years ago. he was the one that introduced me to harry potter in the first place.
