I've been reading The Book Thief all morning. It's very addicting biggrin.gif

Oh that book is excellent!

I bought that at Borders on Friday. I can't wait to start it.

I am finishing Pride and Prejudice. I have about 150 pages to go. I just haven't been in the mood to read lately.

Yeah i want to read Pride and Prejudice also. Is it a good read?

I'm reading P&P right now. I love it! I read it one other time--right after I saw the BBC/A&E 5 hour production. heart.gif You almost don't have to read the book when you watch that. There's not much that's not covered, and they do a phenomenal with it. I find the reading less stilted than Sense & Sensibility, which I also love.

Right now I am reading Walden and Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau. I really like the essay, actually I think they're both essays but I really enjoyed Civil Disobedience and especially in these turbulent times in the United States, it gives a good perspective on government power and the relation of the individual citizen to its government. You could learn a lot from a book by a guy who influenced Martin Luther King Jr. and Mahatma Gandhi.

Seven of Nine, can you put a link in the old thread to the new one? (...I hate trying to find these on my own.)

I think Pride and Prejudice is one of a few books I have re-read as often as Harry Potter. I absolutely LOVE it! Which is why I am re-reading yet another spin-off novel "Duty and Desire" by Pamela Aiden.
Denise
I have started rereading all seven of the HP books. I want to get through tham all before the sixth film comes out.

i am re-reading all the septimus heap books by angie sage so i can be ready for the new one coming out on april 8th!
can't wait! biggrin.gif

I just finished His Dark Materials trilogy, which I absolutely loved, I cried so much at the end smile.gif I'm now going to start on The inheritance Cycle, with Eragon, I saw the movie once, and I so want to read it!! When I finish these, I really going to start rereading Harry Potter again, I'm ashamed of my poor results in the quizzes.. tongue.gif

MysteryLoverAnne, I saw your post about P&P from Darcy's point of view, I haven't seen those before but they're now on my buying list (*sigh* so many books, only one pair of eyes). I did read a couple of P&P sequels, one was really good and one really bad, now I can't remember which (out of quite a few sequels) was the good one lol, I need to dig that out. *thinks it might have been Pemberley*

I'm currently reading Second Chance by Jane Green who wrote Life Swap, loosely (very loosely!) adapted as the movie The Holiday, anyone who thinks there were too many changes and omissions in the HP films should read that book and film, it was barely recognisable. So far its extremely sad, not the fun read I was expecting, but still quite a good read, she has a very simple, easy-going style which is perfect inbetween a couple of more demanding books.
FreedomStar
I'm still reading Sense and Sensibility, and I've started a book called Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, an investigative journalist who went 'undercover' to see if a person could actually live on a minimum wage job.

Speaker for the dead Scott Orsons second book in his Ender series. I'm only a little way in & it doesn't seem to be gripping me like Enders game did, but there's still loads of time for that. Probably next up for me will be Raymond Fiests latest addition to his midkemia Magician saga - I belive this is book 24 with no sight of the end being near cool.gif Some of the characters are the great-great-great-grandchildren of the original characters tongue.gif

I just finished Buckingham Palace Gardens by Anne Perry, the mystery series featuring Thomas Ptt. It was a good read, but I figured out who had to be responsible very early on and I was disappointed that Charlotte Pitt didn't play a larger role.

Today, I finished reading The Golden Compass and I thought it was great! The end kinda threw me for a twist though. blink.gif I read some of The Sun Also Rises...it's really odd. I hope it gets better because it really isn't holding my interest right now. I think I'm going to reread either The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants or Twilight until I can borrow the rest of the His Dark Materials series from a friend of mine.

Well...I finished reading the SparkNotes for Intruder in the Dust yesterday, because the book sucked dry.gif....I'm hoping to be able to finish The Golden Compass soon...I haven't been able to read it in a long time. sad.gif

I just finished The Golden Compass too. Well, last weekend, and I really liked it. The ending was surprising, and I was a bit confused for a second. And I didn't like one bit of the ending but I understand that it was important to the plot. All in all, I loved it. Can't wait to start The Subtle Knife but school is getting in the way of it. I think I should be able to start it in a week, or so. I also trying to re-read New Moon, but I'm stuck on Chapter 2. I can't read anymore. I know whats coming and it make me sad.

I would recommend that you keep plugging along or skim the areas that bore you. It won't be too long (once you get past Tom Bombadil) that you'll get to more exciting stuff.

The second time I read the series I skipped to chapter 10. Made it a lot easier to get through. I don't relate really well to Bella's way of grieving, so it just bugged me.

yesterday i finished reading Eclipse and i absolutely loved it! I read all 3 books in 6 days and now i'm sad..i want to keep reading..

I've recently started reading Beka Cooper: Terrier by Tamora Pierce. I really like Tamora's books so I decided to buy this one when I saw it at the bookstore. It's pretty good so far. I have to get used to the different language that is used, but otherwise I really like it.

The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. read.gif

touching from a distance by Deborah Curtis.
its a look at the life of Ian Curtis (Joy Division) from the point of view of his wife. its really quite sad. the fact its all true makes it that much more powerful. reading about how he suffered with epilepsy and then suffered from the side effects of the drugs he was taking to help fight epilepsy, leading to his suicide, its tragic, really tragic.

I read that many years ago. I've never forgotten it. Life must have been terrifying for her and her family. Her death was so tragic. As were all the many thousands of others of course.

Millions died during that time. The words that Anne Frank wrote in her diary made me see more clearly how people felt during that horrifying and senseless time than any history book that I have read.

I really want to see in on stage, but I haven't found anywhere performing it yet.

I finished the Book Thief (amazing) a few days ago and haven't been able to go to the Library, so I am reading a book my sister gave me, Growing up Empty. It's non-fiction, about the enormous amount of poverty and hunger in America today-and the families, especially the children, that live with it.

I read Speaker for the Dead a few months back, and I wasn't impressed, either, Mikey - there are some interesting ideas there, but it wasn't nearly as good as Ender's Game, and some parts of it really annoyed me. I'm certainly not going to bother with any more in the series.

I've just finished Life of Pi by Yann Martel, which is excellent - a deceptively simple idea, beautifully-executed.

So I hadnt read anything for ages because I've been suffering from reader's block again but, last night I started reading Grave Secrets by Kathy Reichs. So far it's really good like all of her books that I've read, and very difficult to put down lol. I think there are going to be a lot of plot twists (which is a good thing) smile.gif

I recently went to the library with my friend, haven't been since middle school! since i was 12 (ten years!) the woman said when she looked up my info to give me a new library card XD anyway in the past month i've read

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield
Sabriel by Garth Nix
A Wrinkle In Time by Madeleine L'Engle

I am starting Pride and Prejudice but I find it very hard to follow the story, the sentences are so wordy that by the time I finish one I forget what it was. I really do want to read and enjoy the book but i'm finding it hard :/ After I finish it though I plan on starting Lirael which is the sequal to Sabriel wub.gif but then I need to catch up on my childhood reading haha since I hated to read when I was a kid, I stoped reading after I grew out of books like Where the Wild Things Are so i'm going to search through the kids section at the library this month and catch up on books like A Wrinkle In Time and all that stuff I should have read when I was younger.

I am currently reading a book called Catch-22, and it's really odd. My dad told me to read it, so I am.

Over my break I read two other books, Splinter Cell and The Faithful Spy, both of which were great.

Oh, I remember reading Catch-22 in HS. Yeah, its a bit old, but its satrical so that probably why. Once you read the whole thing its like "Oh, wait, I think I need to read that again" to really get it. I never did re-read that, well, not completely. I can't remember lots of it, but I do remember liking it a lot. Humm, maybe I should re-read that. *puts it on my re-reading books list*

I'm just started to re-read Pride and Prejudice. I haven't went to the library to get The Sublte Knife, and The Amber Spyglass yet, so I thought I'd start P&P since I own it.

Currently I'm reading a book called, They Left At Midnight-by Matthew Cortez(local author)...it's a paranormal/ghost story, about this man and his son who leave a party in 1898, and are never seen again, until this priest sees them sitting in a pew inside his church...in 2006! Pretty strange, eerie and downright odd. But, it's good so far. read.gif Sly flag.gif

I hope you like The kite runner, is one of my favourite books...and also if you like that book you should read Khaled Hosseini's second novel A thousand splendid suns.
Both stories are very powerful and moving, i really recommend both books!
Harry's Horntail
I'm reading The Stress of Her Regard by Tim Powers. I love the Romantic poets and I love thrillers and since this mixes both it's just great. It's one of those books I re-read often. I like it better than The Anubis Gates by the same author because it includes more of the poets more often, but I still think I'll read that one next before heading back to Pride and Prejudice for the next book club biggrin.gif

I'm making a valiant effort not to read any more HP except the chapters for my current RG ... so I have some old favourites lined up there. Here's hoping it works and I break this HP obsession cycle biggrin.gif

The Kite Runner is such an amazing book and tells such a true story. At one point, I didn't realize it was fiction.

Let me know what you think of The Year of Living Biblically, I loved The Know-It-All.

Continuing with Non-Fiction: I just finished Population: 485 : Meeting Your Neighbors One Siren at a Time by Michael Perry. I enjoyed it, but I still think his Truck: A Love Story was a stronger memoir.

Well i have read HDM (I reread the series for the first time in 4 years about 6 months ago) and love them, the ending is amazing and so sad sad.gif

The last book i finished reading was Outcast by Michelle Paver, the 4th book in the Chronicles Of Ancient Darkness series. The first book, Wolf Brother is being made into a (I think its Universal Studios) film directed by Ridley Scott (Gladiator etc.) and the series is just amazing so i highly recommend it.

The book im currently reading, and surprisingly for the first time, is The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien. I'm really enjoying it so far and it's inspiring me to go on to read the lord of the rings within the next couple of months.

The next book i'm planning on reading is HP&Deathly Hallows. I have only read it twice so am keen to go at it again. After that it will be Darren Shan's 7th book in the Demonata series for me.
