Robert Pattinson, who played Cedric Diggory so well in Goblet of Fire, has taken on a new role in another movie adaptation of a hit book series. Stephenie Meyer's novel Twilight is one of the latest books to be made into a movie, and Rob has taken on the leading role of vampire Edward Cullen.
This role does look quite a bit more intense than the role of Cedric, judging from the new Twilight Trailer. See it in our Leaky Video Galleries
here! We also have a visit to the set of Twilight with Rob
here.
What do you think of the trailer? Can Robert carry off the role of Edward Cullen? Or will he always simply be Cedric Diggory? Tell us what you think!

Be sure and check out our other
Twilight thread in the image gal forum to see and discuss all the cool promo, set, and other images from Twilight!

I'm quite new to the world of Twilight - i read all 3 books about 3 weekends ago!
Thats probably good in that i never really had a chance to build up an image of Edward outside of Rob playing him - so i'm quite happy with the casting! He seems to suit the style and build in my eyes.
He's a good actor, but a lot is going to depend on the screen writers and directors - if they cut anything the fans feel is important, people are going to judge him on it - so lets cross our fingers that its a great adaptation

But i'm excited for the movie - So long as they get Bella and Edward right, the rest should fall into place.

I actually really like Robert Pattinson as the role of Edward in the upcoming movie, though I imagined Edward a tad different, Robert really portrays the charachter well. He's a bit dreamy and love his attempt at the crooked smile.
Hopefully this movie sticks close to the book and sequels will be in the making. I don't want to be dissapointed, allthough I'm sure no movie crew could ever portray how I pictured the story in my head those numerous time I read the book.

I think he looks great! This trailer is obviously only a teaser, so it just picks out a few dramatic, and romantic moments (that's what the fans want right?), but I think it does a great job in building interest and suspense.
Quite impressed with the accent too!

I haven't read the books although I like so much but after I have heard a lot of things about Twilight and Edward I think that Robert is the perfect guy for that role. I am looking forward to see that movie

I'm ok with the casting of Patz as Edward. I wasn't sure at first, but I think he'll do a great job. He is doing wonderful with the accent. The promotional photos have not been the best. The one above he looks possessed and I saw another where he's looking at the camera oddly ... but he looks really good in the offical poster and in the clips/trailer.
Edward is supposed to be unearthly gorgeous, so I really don't think that anyone would have lived up to some people's idea of the character.

This is a good point. By definition if someone is unearthly gorgeous they can't be found on earth. As Robert Pattinson is an earth dweller he stands no chance. I do think he is pretty close though.
I can't wait to see more of how he portrays the character, and what he is able to add to it.

I doubt I will read
Twilight before I see the film. But I must say
Pattinson looks nothing like "kind, good" Cedric (nor the REAL
Rob Pattinson whom I met in LA last year

) so I think I can watch and see an entirely different character. The teaser trailer definitely sparked my interest.

My real concern is this film pulling from the HBP film repeat business.

Oooh you met him! Very cool. I thought his personality came across well in the GoF DVD extras, he was funny and charming in a very teenage boy kind of way.

I'm interested to see what he does with Edward too. To be honest I'm hoping he makes him more human, because going for that 'other-wordly' thing is going to be too difficult to believe, I think.

I quite agree. An example that comes to mind most readily while in the Lounge is Fleur. As part Veela, she and Gabrielle are supposed to be beyond-this-world beautiful, therefore no one in this world can accurately portray them. But I think that casting did a good job. So too with RP as Edward.

I really can't wait for the twilight movie... but how come this trailer has come out and not HBP?

I believe that Rob will do an excellent job as Edward. I love the way he talks to Bella in the clip. I am new to the series and have always known that he was playing Edward, so my picture of Edward has always been a form of Patz.
But I totally have to agree with Voodoopadfoot. There is so much on the web - ET online, MTV online, and the Twilight movie website - how come we have seen nothing of HBP? I am disappointed. I hoped with the release of OOTP this weekend on HBO, they would show a "making of HBP" but nothing.

I am also relatively new to the 'Twilight' world but I absolutely fell in love with Edward-er, the books, immediately. Robert Pattinson is the perfect Edward in my head. I love his hair in the movies. I've watched the trailer a few times and he just looks great. It is a bit odd that there's no HBP trailer yet.

...anyway, Robert Pattinson is the perfect Edward Cullen. I can't wait for the movie and am absolutely on the edge of my seat every time I watch the trailer.

My students turned me on to the Twilight series and I am anxiously awaiting Aug. 2. I have already been to the library to read the special edition of Eclipse which includes the first chapter from Breaking Dawn...lovely indeed!
I too wanted more in the trailer, yes, yes, yes it was a teaser....but a whole lot choppy and not so clearly focused on how Robert portrays Edward. I too agree that playing and casting Edward would have been difficult since the only actor I have ever seen that was "unearthly" gorgeous and fits the coloring was maybe this guy but that's a whole other story!
I always saw Edward as a man who could sweep you off your feet, and make your knees buckle in an instant, and then when he spoke is his low growl you would be puddy in his hand.....I and just don't know if Robert does that for me

The biggest news in the world of the
Twilight film is that it's opening date has been moved to take over
HBP's former spot, November 21.

Well, at least the
Twilight fans have something to smile about.

Lucky them! I received an extremely smug e-mail from a huge Twilight fan about the release. It's a good thing there have been so many trailers out for it too, it makes that half-month shift easy to accommodate.

Oooh I really can't wait so see Robert Pattinson's performance in "Twilight".
I mean, since Goblet of Fire his acting abilities have improved hell a lot and seeing that his character was so awfully killed off in GoF it's just fair that he now has his own sucessful movie, eh?
No seriously, the trailer looks really promising and I totally know where I'll be on November 21st ...
... at the movies, drooling over Robert!!!

ETA: His hair looks really cool. Me likey that strategic chaos on his head!

i didnt start reading the books until last monday (ha, it sounds so stupid like that) and i am already about to start breaking dawn. anyway, i already knew that my husband, i mean robert would be playing edward so that was just how i invisioned edward. i am really glad he is portraying him though, he has that look to him and, although he is drop-dead gorgeous, its more than that. he has a very dangerous look to him.

I had a very similar situation. I started reading the twilight series after Edward had already been cast as Robert, so I had a pre-conceived notion of Edward looking like Robert. Due to that fact while reading the stories whenever they mentioned Edward I saw Robert. As a result I feel that Robert is a great casting! I don't know if I necessarily would of felt the same way had they started casting after I started reading. Either way I can't wait to see how he does! I agree that he didn't really get much of a chance to show his acting skills in Goblet of Fire, and I can't wait to see it!

exactly! thats probably why i think that the casting (at least for edward) was so perfect. i just cant picture anyone else playing edward

As someone who read the books before the actors were cast (and I have to say, I'm not the biggest fan), they're definitely very close IMO. It was initially a bit strange, but it works.
I'm getting more and more intrigued with everything I see...

That seems to be the consensus amongst my TWILIGHT fan friends. I really have no intention of reading the book unless the film is such a mess that I can't figure stuff out.

However, from the trailers I've seen and things I've read about the film adaptation I think it will be just fine. 5 weeks 'til opening in the US!
