I thought it would be fun to have a poll on your favorite fruit! I have listed quite a few in alphabetical order. So my question to you is; what is your favorite fruit and why? What are some of your favorite foods containing fruit, and if you have any particularly sumptuous and refreshing fruit recipes, please share them with us (I'm getting hungry!!).

You can choose from more than one of the options given above or tell us about your own unique fruit that is near and dear to your palate eat.gif

Have fun smile.gif

As you can see, I love fruit. I love it in pies, cakes and eating in the hand. My favorite pies are Apple Pie, and Coconut Cream Pie, which I like all year round. Peaches and plums I eat throughout the summer, and enjoy every bite. Actually, there aren't many fruits that I don't like.
Moose_Starr
I love fruit so I'm probably going to go down the list & vote for all of them lol.gif
For the most part I eat fruit raw so I dont have too many recipes, although I think pumpkin is also a fruit & I adore pumpkin, I make pies and soups.
I eat avocado as a savory thing, my favorite way of eating it is to cut it in half & remove the seed thing, then fill the hole with a vinaigrette: olive oil, with a tiny amount of vinegar, one crushed clove of garlic, & some whole grain organic mustard, mix it vigorously so as the ingredients amalgamate & pour in. Quick & easy but so good biggrin.gif
Bananas are good sliced, with maple syrup poured over & pieces of broken up dark chocolate (I guess you could use chocolate chips)
But, I love all fruit so much that it's difficult to resist talking about all of them grin.gif
Butterfly_Boy
I also love fruit very much, although I do not care for plums. Cherry pie is my favorite cooked fruit, and the sharon fruit is my favorite uncooked fruit.
Azkaban's_Angel
I love fruit too! It's way tastier than sweets or chocolate etc. I can't see why there is such a problem with healthy eating when we have such great options! tongue.gif I voted for Apples and Plums.
Gemz_Manticore
There were that many to choose from, I ended up ticking half the list. I like to make myself a nice big dish of raspberries, blackberries, cherries and chopped strawberries. I find it really nice and refreshing. I also really enjoy fresh fruit smoothies. A strawberry and orange smoothie is really tasty.

After going to a smash party of Walter's in Antwerp, Belgium for the Fashion Cultural Festival - I have never seen such a looooooooooooong streeeeeeeeeeeetched table full of STRAWBERRYS, Chocolate and Cream - with Candelabras burning inviting tones of "come get it!". We are talking Strawberries that did not taste like chemicals. This party was in an Airplane wing, with these great propeller wind machines keeping the room the right temperature to dance. Fantastic night, and those piles of Strawberries disappeared...

I still have a memory - positive at least of Salt Lake City in 1983, going to a Natural Food Store and getting a wooden basket of the Largest Strawberries I had ever seen. I slowly walked to where I was staying. Good thing I bought two baskets of them, because one was finished by me. They tasted amazing!

After being in Reform School for over a 1 1/2 years I appreciated just being able to walk around - but I was too paranoid. I left the city as soon as I could arrange it; but the Strawberry memory and seeing Flashdance 2x influenced my taste (I still like to eat Strawberries out of a basket) - and my funk (I became a Go-Go Night Club Dancer later in life).

I don't like Strawberry Ice Cream at all - Just the Fruit and Cream. I made a strawberry dress for a drag queen that was a design disaster till we got the glue gun out. She scented herself with Strawberry perfume - it was very very funny to see! See what happens when two tastes collide with one! I wanted to see a Strawberry Dance Go-Go!

OK, this isn't my own recipe, in fact I only just found it but I can't wait to try it

Lemon berry cheesecake

This tangy, low-fat cheesecake has an unusual dried-fruit base that's packed with flavour and plenty of vitamins and minerals too.

Serves 12, preparation 25 minutes plus overnight chilling.

For the fruity base
60g/21/4oz dried apricots
60g/21/4oz dried pitted dates
60g/21/4oz dried figs
70g/21/2oz coarse semolina

For the cheescake
300g/101/2oz low fat ricotta cheese
2 tablespoons sucralose (eg Splenda or other sugar substitute or you could use sugar I suppose if you don't mind the calories)
250g/9oz low-fat fromage frais, vanilla flavour
250g/9oz low-fat fromage frais, lemon flavour
2 teaspoons finely grated lemon zest
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon gelatine
2 egg whites
250g/9oz strawberries, hulled and halved (other fruit can be substituted)

  • Lightly oil and line the base and sides of a 20cm/8" springform cake tin with clingfilm. Line the base, over the clingfilm, with baking paper.
  • Pulse the dried fruit in a food processor until finely chopped; add the semolina and blend well. Spread evenly over the base of the tin, then chill.
  • Combine the ricotta and sucralose in a food processor until smooth. Add the fromage frais, lemon zest and juice, then mix well. Transfer to a large bowl.
  • Put 3 tablespoons of water in a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatine in a single layer on to the surface and leave until spongy.
  • Bring a small pan of water to the boil, remove from the heat and place the gelatine bowl in the pan (the water should come halfway up the sides of the bowl). Stir the gelatine until dissolved, then cool slightly. Add the gelatine into the ricotta mixture and stir well.
  • Beat the egg whites until soft peaks form, then gently fold into the ricotta mixture. Pour the mixture into the tin and chill for several hours until set.
  • Carefully remove the cheesecake from the tin, easing the clingfilm from the sides. Us a spatula to help lift the cheesecake off the baking paper.
  • Place on a serving plate and decorate with the strawberries; serve immediately.

Oh my gosh, I love fruit!

Ever since I was little, my grandma's made coconut cream pie, and I love everything about coconut! I also love kiwi, bananas, grapes, watermelon, strawberries, pineapple, and apples!

One thing I love doing is taking a bite of a strawberry and then a bite of pineapple..Or strawberry and then banana..

I love fruit! smile.gif

Hello All!

I've been out of the loop for a bit. Missed a bunch!

Why have letters H-I-J been omitted from the menu? I personally enjoy Huckleberries in season (which ought to be in late summer).

Hope all are well. Mind your Lily's and Petunias. Regards to Abus Severus.

I like most of the fruits on this list. I tried a cherimoya recently. It was disgusting. Avocados are only good for guacamole in my opinion. I've tried many exotic fruits that aren't on the list.

I'm quite fond of passion fruit. They're small and purple on the exterior like a plum. Inside they're fairly hollow. You eat the seeds which are very tasty.

Dreamteam, that is a wonderful recipe; I can't wait to try it! Since I am having trouble voting for a specific fruit; I will add a recipe below.

Apple Strudel:

Ingredients:
  • One stick of butter
  • 50 mL vegetable oil
  • Greek filo dough leaves; these are sold as a package in any grocery store; defrost at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup crushed walnuts
  • 5 large skinned and grated apples (Granny-Smith apples, gala apples; or whichever kind of apples you desire)
  • 2 tablespoons bread crumbs
  • 1 teaspoon powdered cinnamon
  • one half cup raisins (if you wish)
Melt one stick of butter and mix it with the vegetable oil; you will use this mixture to apply it over the dough sheets.

Use a large casserole for setting and baking the strudel. Oil the bottom well with the oil and butter mixture.

Filling: Mix the granulated sugar with the crushed walnuts, the grated apples, the bread crumbs and powdered cinnamon. Add the raisins as well (again; you may or may not use raisins; it's just a preference). Divide the mixture into as many heaps as is the number of leaves divided by four. (See below)

The dough leaves are rectangular with two long sides and two short. Set each leaf on a sheet of plastic or parchment paper. And apply the butter and oil mixture with a brush on top of each leaf sparingly. Use four leaves placing one on top of the other. Place one heap of the filling on the long side of the dough leaves and spread it to form a strip. roll the dough leaves over the filing mixture strip from one end to the other. Move this roll of strudel into the casserole. Make as many rolls as the number you calculated at the beginning. For example, if you have 20 dough leaves; divide 20 by 4 and you get 5; so 5 is the number of heaps of your mixture that you will be rolling. Arrange the rolls in the dish parallel to each other. Oil the surface generously with the left over butter and oil mixture. Bake at 350 degrees in the oven for 40 minutes. Cover with a towel while the strudel is cooling. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Then cut into serving pieces.

oh wow great poll!! but i ended up checking almost everything... lol.

so anyway, im a big fan of all the Berries. i think strawberries and blueberries are my faves, but i also loveee fresh cherries. you know not when its all red and sweet, when its fresh... am i making sense. so i love berries.

also i really like citric fruits, like oranges, tangerines, and lemons, tho the last one, only in lemonades! biggrin.gif

other ones i voted for because i like very much:
apple
banana
coconut
grape
kiwi
melon
nectarine
peach
pear
pineapple
plum
watermelon (love it!! also one of my faves!)

my favorite way to eat fruit is raw, you know like on the hand. so i dont have much recipes. im not too big on mixing fruit with regular food, so i dont like many pies.

here is a recipe for avocado that i really like (im just describing the way i make it so it may seem a bit disorganized):

cut it in half and take out the humongus seed.
then scrape the soft part into the liquifier or whatever you have at home to mix stuff up
it will be like a smoothie.

you can also put the smoothie in the frigde, and you will have a kind of avocado ice cream, its really yummy and great to eat in the summer! smile.gif
hp_flower
I love fruit! My favorite way to eat them is raw. I can eat a whole carton of blueberries if I wanted to. I think my favorites are watermelon and, this wasn't on the list, catalope. A combination I love is bananas and chocolate. I also love a lot more, but it would take to long to name them all! tongue.gif
coppertopchopperhopper
I love al kinds of fruits and in the summer i just live on strawberries!
Also Cherries and Blackberries picked straight from the hedge rows biggrin.gif

But I have to say that my all time favourite is Oranges of every kind !
Alysaw
Cherries! I love dark, sweet cherries! Second choice would be Asian Pears.
VoodooPadfoot
Woot! Banana's are in the lead!

I chose Bananas and Cherries for the first half and Kiwi and Mong for the second half! But I don't know a single fruit I dislike.
MissJinx
I chose clementine cuz my brothers and I used to get them in our Christmas stockings, a reference back to the Great Depression when citrus fruits were delicacies. Then I chose strawberries because my family used to grow them in our backyard, and they taste good with chocoalte, whipped cream, etc. eat.gif
witch@heart
I picked clementine and mango because I could eat them for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I like clementines when the are cool and peel and eat them. They especially taste good on hot summer days. The best way to eat a mango is to have a mango smoothie! The taste is just sweet enough to wake you up if you are sleepy and mangos taste awesome!. eat.gif
Floo Commuter
I had to pick Mango and Banana because I grow both of them in my backyard.
RosieW
Oh, my favourites would have to be just about any of the berries - strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, bilberies. Heavenly all together in a summer pudding.
FireyPhoenix08
I picked banana, orange, and peach. I would cut all of those up and have a nice fruit salad so I could have a snack while watching a movie or reading a book.
padfootbitme
Strawberries, grapes, grapefruit, and cherries are my favorite.
winterborn
I love fruit, especially now when it's summer around here. I mostly eat nectarines since we don't have them in winter time, it's absolutely lovely. And if I ever get tired of them raw (which is not very likely) I'd make a nectarine pie. YUMMY!
The same thing goes for blueberries, but it's not time to pick them yet, so it's just blueberry pie for now.

finniguffle651
mmmmm... I picked grapefruit because it's really good if you cud it in half sideways, the eat the grapefruit out of the middle with a spoon. Aaaaand I picked strawberries because... there just really good; especially french strawberries (they're longer and skinnier and sweeter).
InfestedWithNargles
I like mangoes (or is it mangos?), peaches, pineapple, cantaloupe and plums! I like lots more fruits, but these are my favorites!
RubyRose
Yum, the selection made me hungry. My faves are avocados, strawberries, blackberries, and clementines.. but not all mixed together huh.gif
HermioneGurlie8
Fruit in general is one of my favorite things. My absolute favorite are blueberries. I could eat them all day! Blueberry pies are excellent. I might make one today for my dad's birthday. I also wouldn't pass on watermelon, strawberries, clementines, or peaches. All of those are just yummy! Apples are good too, but I only like them every once in a while unless they're the Pink Lady apple. smile.gif
coppertopchopperhopper
Cherries, nectarines ... hagin it ANY fruit is fine by me!
accio joe jonas
i LOVE fruit!! it's one of my favorite things to eat!! i pretty much voted for almost everything on the list except for things i never heard of!! lol
