is there a general symbolic meaning to Dumbledore's half-moon specs.??

i am reading the book the natural in school and even though it's about baseball and harry potter obv. isn't there are a lot of parallels between the two.

with symbols. lots of Fisher King references. plus i think two of the fisher king like characters wear half-moon specs. (not to mention they are smart, have hurt hands etc.) just like Dumbledore.

btw i am new. (to the boards not to hp. i go on boards like this for broadway/idina menzel)

hello crazyforwicked91 and welcome.gif

I don't think there is any particular symbolic meaning to Dumbledores Half moon specs.
They are worn here in the UK by elderly people who's long distance eyesight is fine but who need glasses for reading.

I think Jo chose to give them to Dumbledore because they are seen as slightly excentric and add to his general air of gentlee madness.
I think she also liked the idea of him peering over them and the discription helps the reader to feel how Harry feels on the receving end of those peircing eyes.

I think the glasses also helped draw attention to his crooked nose.

that's interesting. i never really thought that they would have a meaning but the book that i am reading for school had so many parallels relating specifically to Dumbledore that i thought that the specs. could mean something since that was one.
