i know that most likely we will never know, but it would be cool. i mean magical folk can be born from a set of muggle parents with no magical background so it stands to reason that theres a way a muggle could become magical, at least in my head anyway! I think it could be more difficult for a squib, or impossible, as they are from magical families and still are not fully magical so their must be some blockage somewhere ( even though they can see dementors which means there is magic there somewhere.) any thoughts??

I think this is one of those cases of "You either have it or you don't". If you do it can be honed and controlled, if you don't then theres nothing that can be done.

Well, they can become 'magical' creatures of sorts by being bitten by werewolves or vampires. Not much magical ability in either of those but they get to impose danger to magical people. Some might be attracted to that kind of existence.

who dishes out the magical power or how is it dished out? what decided that hermonie would be magical , with no magical ancestry? is this a bit of a religious question?

Random mutation? Recombination between two different 'broken' versions of the 'magic' gene? Rowling isn't that strong in science, so I don't expect a thorough reply that agrees with the science of genetics perfectly in any case.

Well If you find out about the magical world and know everything about it then your a squib. Then you can be taught how to use a wand and everything.Sometimes your born to be a witch/wizard but sometimes your not.I see it as you can learn to be one as Filch was doing in CoS.

QUOTE(potterfan6 @ Jun 7 2007, 10:21 PM) Well If you find out about the magical world and know everything about it then your a squib. Then you can be taught how to use a wand and everything.Sometimes your born to be a witch/wizard but sometimes your not.I see it as you can learn to be one as Filch was doing in CoS. But of course, that Kwikspell course Filch got didn't work though. (well, as far as we know, anyway!) I think it was one of these scams like we get in the Muggle world! I always thought that you just had to be born with magical abilities. Yes, Hermione's parents are muggles, but who's to say that somewhere in her family history there wasn't a witch or wizard at some point? I'm not convinced that a muggle can just learn how to perform magic. I'm of the belief that you have to be born with it. Well yeah you have to be born with it.But when muggle borns go to Hogwarts for the first time it's like they're muggles picked from the streets that don't know anything. If you picked a muggle from the street and sent them to Hogwarts, they're like the muggle borns.Don't know anything but are still receieving an education in a magical world.Hermiones a muggle born and she knows magic and how to use a wand and everything.See what Im trying to say?Anyone can be a muggle born and learn magic.Like Hermione and Justin Finch Fletchley.
