Windows 7 Beta is coming Tomorrow (January 9th 2009). I've been following them with the latest previews, and news. The videos REALLY impress me. The task bar is more like a Dock, and wow... can't express my excitement.
It all started this morning when Steve Balmer announced the Beta that comes tomorrow... Then I started watching these Videos and I'm actually impressed! Honestly, I might actually install Windows Live Messenger!

Well, I can't wait to get home tomorrow. I'll start the download before i go to school...

The Future is almost here. Gnome and KDE will have some catching up to do? No, since microsoft does what they're best, they ripped off a lot from the competition again

What do you think?

Thank you,

EDIT:

Turns out, it was their cool press conference that pulled it off, for me at least. They're good at the business [of ripping people off]. Their Press conference [with no sweaty Balmer] actually made me believe this was a worthy product.
Turns out Windows 7 is just like Vista (but a finished version). You might wonder why they didn't release it with a service pack? Read their History of ripping off.

XKCD

(Edit:) Sorry, it's just my ironic side that comes boiling to the surface... I cannot comment on Win7, as i have neither seen nor tried it yet. XKCD just managed to provide a nice counterweight to all the marketspeak.

Let's see what it can do, then i'll try and evaluate on merits.

I LOVE THAT COMIC!

BTW, I meant to say: KDE and gnome wont have to catch up. the style reminds me of KDE4

My understanding is that while, yes, it's still vista, it's a less resource consuming version of vista and more customizable.

I have it installed in a virtual machine. It has slight differences from Vista, but I haven't discovered anything major. Vista will get a service pack as there is a beta version of service pack 2 which supposedly gives performance improvements.

I think that Microsoft is treating this like ME. Vista had so much backlash, that instead of fixing it, they're coming out with a newer and supposedly better product to try to gain some more credibility and making more money.

Hmm... I may still wait till Windows seven comes out and buy a personal copy of that and not waste it on a copy of Vista. I've kind of been bumming off of the code I got from the store because my laptop was a shelf model and the only one of this particular model they had.

ME was always going to be a bit of a dead end though, because they were switching from the 95/98/ME code line to the NT one. Windows-7 is a continuation of Vista, so they could backport some of the improvements in Windows-7 to Vista. In fact, since Server 2008 and Vista share the same forthcoming service pack, it is likely they will improve Vista with stuff in -7. From a marketing point of view though I suspect Vista will shrink into the background.

My got the 7 64bit Beta. It looks good and all, but I think I will miss the now-classic taskbar. (similar to xp and vista). The one from 7, like KDE... which I dont like
