Usually a plot just comes to me while I'm walking around outside. The other day I had to read a book for history and I got a really good idea (or so I thought at the time), but when it came time to write it, I decided that I couldn't write it, at least now now. I also tend to get ideas while I'm daydreaming before bed. smile.gif

Music. Lots of music. I tend to imagine my stories as if they were movies, but with little lines- only the soundtrack. Fast-paced music for action scenes, orchestra music for epic scenes, and so on. You should try thinking about what songs a scene makes you think about, or viceversa. It always works for me.

Music can definitely be good once you've already got an idea. Some music with lyrics is okay for me, but I generally prefer instrumental music like from soundtracks. Because they you're feeling the emotion behind it. But lyrics sometimes get me thinking of the words of the song rather than what I need to write to down. Sometimes I connect to a song so much that it becomes like a theme for the story.

The basic grist for my stories always comes from my imagination. Once I start to (for me it's always a slow process) expand on the tale though, music is my main inspiration; lyrics especially.

I prefer to write listening to music. Each chapter of my story is titled to keep me focused on the main theme of that particular chapter. I also have a certain song to go with each chapter, as well. It helps me to keep the emotion that I need to convey on paper fresh.

Uh, a small warning: if you use music, be ready for a writing berserker mode. I once got so worked up into a battle scene, with such a great music playing on my KaiPod, I ended up with seventy-three word pages of a single chapter.

I get over-inspired which makes for crazy writing. I agree that music is inspiring and I usually listen to my iPod while I'm writing. Forests, Nature and Celtic mythology feature a lot in the book I just wrote. And art, photography, names, words! Told ya I get a little crazy!

Not crazy. You just like to listen to sounds and music which get your brain cells active.

I like Celtic music as well, though I have never listened to nature music unless you count the noises I listen to while sitting out on my deck.

If you like Celtic music, have a listen to Ar Eirinn Ni Neosfainn Ce Hi by Maria McCool on You Tube. It will send shivers down your spine.

That happens to me alot. I think I must be subliminally influenced by the lyrics tongue.gif because I find that the music I'm listening to, even just a small section of it, will work often it's way into my stories. It doesn't have a huge impact on the plot, but it regularly happens that the lyrics of the song will help shape the emotions of the character in a scene and give them greater depth and reality.

I get inspired by dreams and by strange random thoughts that pop into my head. I've had some great stories built upon a single small idea.
