Since many of Arthur's children were excellent Quidditch players it's got me wondering what position he played during his time at Hogwarts?
I'm thinking that he was a beater like the Twins or maybe a keeper like Ron. I imagine what he lack in skill he more then made up with enthusiasm. This post has been edited by cooncatbob: Jun 28 2008, 03:25 PM -------------------- Work like you don't need the money

What makes you think that Molly wasn't the Quidditch player? Though perhaps they both were.

I can see Arthur being a quidditch player, a beater or keeper, not captain or anything, but just a guy to make the players feel better after a loss. And as you said, alot of enthusiasm. I don't think he was the best guy on the team, I think he was just in it because he wanted to have some fun, and he was a big quidditch fan!
I can see Molly being the announcer, that would be perfect for her. I can't see her playing quidditch! I'm not sure about Arthur. I don't really see him as a Quidditch player, but he must be interested in Quidditch to take them all to the World Cup. I think I'd go for seeker, not sure why, or keeper, because he seems to be a careful, thoughtful person, which I think would be important.
I could see Molly as a beater, as she has a lot of energy, and is determined, for example in the duel in DH. If she wanted to be a beater, she would be, and would be a good one. But as cooncatbob says, she didn't go to the World Cup, and I would have thought that if she has any interest in Quidditch then she would have gone too. -------------------- "Oh no, not again" -Bowl of Petunias The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy |

I never thought about Arthur possibly beeing a quiddich player, I think he'd be a entusiastic spectator, but not player... But as you said all of their kids (-Percy) were great quiddich players...

It's just a school team, Arthur could have very well tried out and not made the team or he could have been like Ron and not had a good enough broom. They're only 7 players and they don't have any reserve players in uniform

I can't see Arthur playing Quidditch either... i can see him more like Percy. Interesting theory though.

I see Molly as captainess as keeper. That should've been the great time of Gryffindor's team in the years before Harry. With a strength of personality as hers, she could've even managed to defeat Hufflepuff: the star team (the one team which always defeated Harry and his stars trying to make a team).
I guess, just as Ron wanted to impress Hermione, Arthur enter the team for Molly. He did his best as seeker under her training, that's how he become such organized to run a family of 7 children. |

I too never thought Arthur to be one to play quidditch. Though he may love the sport it doesnt mean he was on the team, and since there are only seven players he would of had to be really good to get on the team. As for Molly though she is a strong woman I don't think she would have been on the team either.

I see him as a beater. I imagine much in the same mold as the twins. The way they amused him seems like he's remembering things he did when he was their age.

I see Molly as more of the Quidditch player, a beater for sure! and Arthur as the commentator. Kind of off topic, but we didn't meet any female beaters while Harry was at Hogwarts, did we?

I think Molly would have played. She's got the mindset for it. Chaser like Ginny.
But i could see Arthur as a Beater too. -------------------- ~ Save a broomstick; ride a Quidditch player. ~ |

I'm interested by what you guys say about Molly.
But for Arthur... I think Chaser. Because he's a team player. But he always aspired to be a Beater. And that's what Molly would have played. She would have known how to put some bite into it. Even though Molly doesn't like all the Twin's jokes and tricks and stuff, I think she used to have a real feisty and mischievous side to her. Arthur is more playful not quite beater material. -------------------- ~->Happy Is The Bird That Flies<-~ |

Do we have any evidence Bill was on the team? Anyway, Arthur seems a lot mellower and less competitive than any of his children. They're all very assertive, if in very different ways, and Arthur rarely shows this sort of trait. I think they get it more from their mother. That doesn't mean Molly was on the Quidditch Team, however. She seems to express herself in different ways. |

I doubt he was ever too bothered trying to play Quidditch. Probably just a spectator with the rest of the school. I always think of Arthur as being a little bit clumsy.
He probably wanted to play a muggle sport anyway. I doubt Molly had much interest in Quidditch at all. But I think the kids may have got their ability from her side of the family. Her brothers Gideon and Fabian may have played. They seem like a family of fighters and competitors. |

I couldn't have said it any better myself. Cheers to the both of you, you beat me to the punch. IF (and that was a big If) Arthur played Quidditch, he would probably have been the back-up Seeker. Arthur mentions Mundungus trying to jinx him with his back turned so Arthur was used to ducking things. I think that Arthur would have only tried out to get nearer to Molly in the first place. |

I just can't see either of them as particularly athletic types!
To me, Arthur sounds rather disinterested in the whole thing, and at QWC final, i got the impression of someone trying to impress his sons. And Molly just is always described as quite frumpy, plump, not exactly a quidditch physique, although i suppose 7 babies could do that to you. Otoh, i think that it is much more likely that Gideon and Fabian Prewett (Molly's brothers) were quidditch mad. The seemingly quite widespread tale of the valour makes them seem quite physically able, and very brave, and the Weasley children needed to get their quidditch obsession from somewhere! On that note, i don't get the feeling that Bill was ever a quidditch star, with his rather 'rock-star' appearance, i don't see him on a broom, and, if my memory serves me rightly, he took Fleur on a thestral not a broom during the Seven Potters scene. So hopefully it works out that Charlie was old enough to be indoctrinated by his Uncles before they died, otherwise my theory is pretty much useless! |

Somehow I can't see either of them playing Quidditch. Maybe some aunts and uncles were good Quidditch players?
