I dont know how to chat on it. I can type in the box to type but nothing tells me how to make my chat show on the chat where all the people are not even the help! People ask me something but i cant respond! HELP MEEE!

Hi, well its actually very easy to have your text appear, all you have to do when you type something is hit the ENTER key on your keyboard and your text should appear, i'm not sure if you have learned this already, if you have then great if you haven't then i hope this helps, and we all look foward to chatting with you

Sometimes, if I'm in a new window, sometimes my grey bar (Text bar) is dis-abled. I usally have to exit out of Firefox and then start again by going to CoC.com

Yea john i have the problem also, its usually when i have another window open and then go back to the CoC window, but its not so bad, my internet is fast so it only takes a few seconds to get back on.

Hi to those experiencing Shockwave errors (and to those who are not, of course!):

The only known fix for Shockwave errors at present is to uninstall your current version and download it again, at the official site, which can be found http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/ If this does not fix your errors, I would recommend you submit a http://www.chamberofchat.com/contact/contact.asp?mi=hContact so the developers can review your matter.

My Shockwave fixed with version 8.1 but it said I was expelled when I went to sign in, even though I wasn't on CoC since version 8.0 and I had done nothing wrong before that.

Re: invisible rooms/people - The 'Game Tester' entered CoC last night at about 8:00 - 8:30p EST to advise everyone that the developers were working on the server, so things got a bit bizarre. It appears those in the room could only see ones who entered after them, so if you had entered the room later than everyone else, the room would in fact appear to hold a number of invisible people.

Everything started returning to normal at about 11:15p EST, so all is well now

I'm a bit confused....I just registered yesterday and downloaded shockwave and everything. When I click "Chat Now", it takes me to a new page, but before it downloads something pops up about an ActiveX error or something like that. Then when I click ok, it always boots me offline. I don't even know what ActiveX is! Can someone please help me? Thanks in advance.

ActiveX is a type of program that you need in order to download and run shockwave player. If it pops up right under your Toolbar then you should click it and it will download the Macromedia Shockwave Player. If that doesnt work then download it from here: http://www.Shockwave.com
Once it is downloaded press "Chat Now" and it should work.

Thanks so much for the help, Witherwings, but I'm still having a bit of trouble! I installed Shockwave, and I checked my computer and it shows that ActiveX is installed on it. But now when I click "Chat Now," while the page is downloading a popup appears that says "Missing Shockwave Decompression XTRA" If I click OK or close it, I get booted offline, but my browser freezes up until I click Ok or close it, so I have no other choice! Do you know what the problem could be? Thanks for everything and I'm sorry for all the questions!

whenever i look at the news page on the chamber of chat home page. It will only show the newest announcement. If i click on one of the other topics it loads the page but there is nothing there. Is that happening to anyone else?

Hello clayzy4hp. It sounds like the download did not give you everything. Manually uninsatall the shockwave player. (If you have Windows you can do this in the Control Panel.) Then reinstall here: http://www.shockwave.com If you are still having trouble Im sure I or orther helping people could look into it even further.


To MidnightPhoenix: It is true that The News section only brings you to the newwest topic, but my pages are loading with the the information on them.

You can Download Firefox http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/! It costs nothing and takes up 1.50.6 GB. The Chamber of Chat runs smoothly on it for me!

Agree, John Robert. Firefox is an excellent browser, and has a tonne of fantastic features. This is just an FYI to everyone who uses Firefox. I received a notice earlier this week that Firefox 2.0 would be available in BETA in the near future. I thought it was supposed to be available this Thursday past, but when I went to the site to update, I could see no indication that it had been released. I will try and let everyone know, as soon as I become aware that 2.0 BETA is available.

I'm having some trouble too. The CoC homepage wont even link for me, and when I try to go into chat I am getting expellation lockdown (keeps saying im expelled........may deserve it). Just wondering.......WHAT'S GOING ON!!!!!

Edit: Correction. Now none of the site is loading up. 7:06 p.m. CST.

Second Edit: I know I'm not really expelled, though I thank you Midnight Pheonix for trying to help xD!

Hmmm...not sure what to say. I appear to be connecting to the website and Chamber of Chat itself just fine. The odd thing is that there is only one other person on here with me.

I had no access problems up until almost midnight last night, but when I left the Study Hall and tried to load another room, I started encountering problems. I wasn't able to access the site at 7:15a this morning, but when I tried at 10:00a this morning, I was back to normal with no access problems.

Please note that I sent a Feedback Form last night, but I'm not sure it was received because it was sent at around the same time I started having access problems.

ETA - I was just able to confirm that my Feedback Form was received. FYI

chat down? I was on and shockwave froze up so I founf myself talking to myself for a few minutes until i realized what happened and when i tried to load it up agian it said I had been expelled(obviously I have not) I then tried several more times but it wasnt working, after about my 5th try the website went totally off line, and can no longer visit the coc home page...... is everyone having the same problem?

I'm able to access CoC with no problems, but please note, I have notified the developers that there appears to be a server problem of sorts. Hopefully the chat will be up for everyone in the not too distant future.

I have sent a notice to developers to check into the CoC access issue. I am able to log in with no difficulty, but I understand there are quite a few people affected by this issue. I hope to have an update for you shortly.

ETA: Good news! The server has been reset, and the chat is back up and running.

Hi, I just heard about CoC a couple of weeks ago and I thought it looked awesome, so I signed up as soon as possible. The problem is, they say that they send an E-mail to you within 72 hours, but I haven't recieved it yet, it's been two weeks now. What should I do?

Try sending a feedback form which can be found on the CoC homepage. Write staing your username and email information stating what is the staus of your account. Hope this helps and works!

It does appear that the server is down and you all are just experiencing that in different ways. Don't worry if you're unable to get onto the homepage at the moment. In the meantime, let's reserve this for more updates and problems. We'll let you know when we hear from the developers.

No news yet guys- The developers have been contacted but as you've noticed the chat is still down. Please be patient, things will be brought back up as soon as they can. We'll let you know when we know anything.

Since the server going down is now known and reported, let's keep this thread for new problems that may crop up.

As of 10:00a EST, the CoC server remains down. A note was sent to developers last evening, when the problem was first detected; however, it is a bit tricky when the server affects global applications that run from it (such as chamberofchat.com e-mail), as communications are also stifled. I have notified the developers through an alternate communication mode, so hopefully we'll have an update for everyone soon.

We have advised everyone that we would update this thread when an update is available. Making additional complaints will not bring the chat back any faster. This thread is to be used to post problems and bugs to bring to CoC Staff's attention. We are aware there is a problem, so unless there is a new development, concerning the Chamber of Chat's availability, there is no point posting to this thread. We will have to close this thread until the current problem has been remedied if posting about the same problem continues. Additionally, please do not open any new threads about this problem, because we will have to close them.

As stated a few times now, we will update everyone as soon as we have an update to provide.

Hey guys,

just to let you know that it is still going to be another few days until the COC is back up on it's feet. The server is in the process of being relocated and service will be resumed asap.

As it is, we're going to have to make do with Leaky Lounge (not that that is a hardship) and perhaps even pick up a copy of our favourite JKR book.

It doesn't seem that Coc is working for me when I log in it says quickly 100% Activating portkey and then I wait for a minute then it shows me the map but the number of students doesn't show

Access to the CoC may be a routing problem at this point. Please excuse my lack of technical, er... lingo for the next bit: I'm not certain if the server has a built-in graduated access mechanism to avoid a flood of users trying to access it at the same time, but this may be the case. Kingsley did mention in an earlier post that the Chamber of Chat program would likely be affected for a number of days, while the server is being physically relocated, so access could be hit and miss.

I am posting this again, as it appears it may have been overlooked. Some individuals are continuing to experience problems with accessing the Chamber of Chat. As soon as we have an update, we will post it here. We are aware of the continuing problems, and the fact they are hit and miss. Please bear this in mind before posting to this thread. If you are wondering if some of your friends can access the chat when you cannot, please contact them through the PM system. As Kingsley earlier noted, these problems will likely continue over the next few days, while the server is being physically relocated.

I have just signed up for and signed in to CoC. My password/login is working fine but when the "Portkey" is"Activated" I go to a main screen with a parchment map with Howarts, Hogwarts Express and London blocked out on it. On the left is a list of the different rooms and next to each it says the number of students in the room is "?". I can't figure out what I'm supposed to go to from here. I've tried exiting and relaoding but nothing seems to be working. I've clicked all over the page and can't find a way to access any of the rooms. Can anyone help me?

The best thing to try, would be clearing your cache. This usually seems to help most chatters with this problem. Sometimes there is to much in the temporary internet files, and the chat wont load. So give that a try.

It seems your "page cannot be found error" has not affected you submitting news. I believe someone else had a similar problem as well though, so I don't think it's just you. News needs to be approved so sometimes it may take awhile for it to be posted. However, thanks for letting us know about this and I'll see if someone can look into it further and it can be fixed.

It usually takes 24 to 48 hours to process a new account for the chamber of chat, and then sometimes the approval goes into your junk mail folder so you should also check in there for it. The only things you can see about the CoC is on the main page so it dosnt really show inside the chat, just a few screen shots.

Mine does it all the time. It will let me on sometimes after I have been surfing for awhile. I figured out that it is my internet connection won't load it for some reason. I have no idea why it does it and I have tried everything to fix it but it seems it is envitable. Sorry it stinks I know.

My advice would be to go to the chat now screen, and load it again. Hold Shift while clickng the reresh button, see if that helps. If not, maybe contact them through a feedback form.

Just an update-- Carl mentioned this update would run throughout today. So, it may come back online for a bit but be prepared for the possibility that it will be taken offline again. Hopefullly after today all updates will be complete and things will be running smoothly again.

Does CoC work on all browsers? I'm at a homestay and they just have safari, and I've never used that before. I can get to the CoC, but my portkey fails each time I try to log in... was just curious is that was the browser or a tech glitch?

I can't speak for all browsers, but I know it does work with Safari. So, I think it's a glitch with the chat right now, not your browser. I would try later tomorrow and if you still have problems there are a couple things you can try.

It looks like the chat is down at the moment, creating different types of errors. We'll let Carl know and try to get that fixed soon.

Hi,

Last night Troy done testing on me and other users. I noticed that when Troy zapped himself, the lightning lasted for two seconds and then went. There is also a problem pushing people back to the map room. Just thought to let you know.

To stay on topic: CoC seems fine! No problems (see above post by me). So maybe some other people are not getting in? Or is everybody fine? Hope everybody is getting on well! The CoC server is an sometimes but it can be a bit of a , So Keep trying if your locked out in the Cold of CoC!

Carl and Troy are aware of this and are working on it to try and fix the problem. The reason you are getting log-in prompts is because the entire site is down right now. It's nothing to worry about and they are working on it. Thanks for posting about the problem! We'll let you know here if we have any more updates.

When I Bring Up CoC A Thing Comes On *insted of coc* And Says "Web Server Powered by Jones Group Server" And Then Goes To A Web Graphics Site What Happend?

Any other error message or server page like that just means the site is down. The developers are working on it though and hopefully it will be back up and running again soon. We'll keep you posted with any updates.

I'm pretty sure other people have had this problem too, but I just wanted to say that It says that I have been expelled and I haven't been informed of this and haven't done anything wrong to my knowledge. I'm sure it is just a fluke and that it has something to do with the recent server problems. I just wanted to have it on record that it was accruing for me too.

To my knowledge there are a range of errors people are getting right now. Some people are seeing the "Chat is down for maintenance", others are being prompted for a log in and password, portkey failures, being expelled, etc. It's all a result of the chat being worked on though. The main thing being worked on right now is the server, which is what has been causing trouble lately.

We appreciate your patience until it comes back up!

CoC is back up for most people, but when I go on (have to do that offline or it shows "The page cannot be found") it says that I'm expelled.. I've done everything.. clear my cashe, downloaded the new shockwave thingy... and I did NOT get banned! Any idea what I should do now....?

I'm not sure what's causing the error but you aren't the only one getting it. Other people are still seeing the "Chat down for maintenance" page. I will ask around and see what more I can find out but I wouldn't worry. Just continue to be patient Hopefully it should be running smoothly soon...

Question marks come up when the server is down (you might also get an error like "portkey failure). We'll let the developers know and hopefully the chat will be back up and running again shortly. Keep checking back. Thank you for your patience.

Firstly, I love the new layout it's great We are currently having Portkey Failure, but weirdly we have the screen with no Slytherin or Riddle Room .

The new interface is pretty awesome, huh? The reason you aren't seeing the Slytherin common room or the Riddle Room (if you can load the chat at all) is because the version has gone backwards. The developers are aware though and it is being worked on. If you are getting errors, like question marks, or portkey failing, etc. that's why.

ETA: It appears to be fixed and up and running on the current version. If not clear your cache and try again!

I tried to register for the chamber of chat but I was never approved, I think it's because I'm only 13. Is it true that you have to be literally OVER 13 before you register for CoC? Why is that?

HPluver, you do not need to be over 13, you just must be 13, or have your parents consent. If you are 13 and did not recieve a form, send a http://chamberofchat.com/contact/contact.asp?mi=hContact
Scroll down the options, go to "Not Recieved My Approval Email" and fill out the rest of the info.

As harrypotterfan123 your age wouldn't be the problem. Sometimes approval emails get lost or other mix-ups can occur. HPfan covered it though, send a feedback form make sure to include the name you applied with, and hopefully you will be up and chatting soon!

Also be sure to check your Junk Mail because sometimes the CoC Email's get automaticly moved into there.

Hi-

Recently on the Chamber of Chat, (May 2, 2007). The Chamber of Chat added a Guest Feature. The Guest Feature of course gave Guests to the chat the ability to enter the chat, but without the features of spell casting, typing, access of two game rooms, and the ability to add their Leaky Lounge Account Information.

This morning, (May 3, 2007) One Guest Came in. Then another, then another, soon, the whole Slytherin Common Room had an army of identicle guests all lined up in straight rows. Once we left to chat in another room, the room was full of Guest. We thought we were safe until the same avatar came in. The same avatar from the Slytherin Common Room. Apparantly, they were trying to fill up all the rooms on the chat.

Sooner of later, the Gryffindor Common Room was filled with an army. Carl, Troy, can you do something about this?

I did notice that guests by the way , have no ability to talk (isn't a member anymore but should talk about that problem)
The problem is the guests get in and move around can't do anything I might have been wondering they have some questions to the members or wondering about the X's on the map , who published the sites etc ..so Mod either the guest thing should include the ability of them to talk so they talk about the site what they think about it or ask ppl for assistant in something in the site so they can then register and old members then can explain why they have an X on the map on riddle room and magical art and Robert is right their is alot of cloning happening with the guests their should be some way to solve this or some kind of soloution to stop this , better then ending up CoC filled up with only guests in all rooms , lol, how great that would be (not actually)
Anyhow we are looking forward in to finding the right soloution for this problem

Because of the cloning, the guest feature has been removed until a way is figured out so that people cannot clone themselves, it was a big problem, good thing its gone for now.

That is a good idea though it's good that they can't clone anymore it will be better then having an army of cloning their again
