Alas, we crafters all have them... Those projects, half started (or half finished, depending on how you see things!), hidden in a drawer or wardrobe.

Have you got any WIPs? Tell us about them here!

I love to cross stitch, so I have TONS of WIPS! Unless I'm specifically stitching something for a gift, I almost always find something else I'd rather start than finish whatever it is I'm working on. I guess my biggest WIP is a picture that I'm stitching of my former boss. I took a photograph and scanned it into one of those software programs that makes charts out of pictures for you. I started it 2 years ago, and it was supposed to be his 50th birthday gift. He'll be 52 this fall!!!!!! Fortunately he doesn't know I'm doing it since it was supposed to be a surprise, so I guess I'll give it to him if/whenever I get it finished.

I'm looking forward to hearing about others' WIPS so that I know I'm not the only one! wink.gif

I'm also working on a picture of my mom I inputed in those pattern conjurers. It's a b&w picture of her when she was 1-2. I was planning on doing another picture of her at 49 beside that one, then place it on a scrapbook and give it to her for her birthday... But considering I'm like 5 months late on my "schedule", I don't think I'll actually be able to do the 49 picture. I'll see how things go, and work from there I guess!!

But for wizarding crafts, I'm currently working on a Ravenclaw vest size 8 I hope to have finished for Lumos (I'm almost finished with the back, so *just* the front and ribbing to do!), plus I have to block my Ravenclaw scarf and add fringes. I'm also involved in a crafts swap on http://www.craftster.org and for that I'm making a breakfast tray (I'll whip up a tutorial for that too), a cross-stitched bookmark and a padded photo album with a stencil on top. I have to send all three items by Monday, and so far only the breakfast tray is halfway done eek.gif I'll need to get a move on! biggrin.gif

I have lots of WIPS (and UFOs!), both HP and non-hp related! My biggest right now is a quilt that I'm hand quilting. It's my first one to hand quilt and my thumb and index finger will never be the same! I'm on my third for fourth type of thimble and still searching for the perfect technique. It is coming out nice, though. On top of that, I have several quilt tops that are anxiously waiting to be turned into quilts.

Hmmm... ponder.gif I also have a 1/2 completed crocheted blanket for the local charity group I volunteer for (http://www.linusconnection.org). I tend to crochet less in the summer and only turn in quilts for Linus. I've been pretty much neglecting crochet all together since I started the hand quilting project.

I have a huge stack of HP-related paper pieced patterns I designed for my website that I still have to test. I try to get a couple done every week, but I tend to put it off then do five or six at a time out of guilt! I also have a super long list of pattern ideas (it's got about 60 things on it I haven't tried yet!) that I've received from pretty much everyone I know and some people I don't!

Magical Crafting Everyone! wizard.gif

My WIPS? Let's see. I have a few house scarves in progress. Four to be exact. Three Gryffindor and a Ravenclaw. Three Movie 1 style and one Movie 3 style. I'm also working on bookmark house scarves. I also have loads of non-HP WIPS.

Well my recent Work In Progress is this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/JaneMarple1/2006MayHarryPotter1.jpg

(and if I have done wrong, posting this link Please let me know smile.gif
It is the Gryffindor badge. It was in a embroidery magazine, in England, and they called it a "Pub Sign". But seeming it was so close to the Gryffindor badge, I converted it.
My current WIP is a standard pincushion! biggrin.gif

You did perfectly... May I use these pictures on Leaky? If so, e-mail it to me at harrypottercrafts@gmail.com (just so I don't forget, as I treat the uploads in the order I receive them... and I'm quite behind right now!)

Good luck with the pincushion!

Well I am still trying to figure which pictures to put on my duct tape bag that is black but I think I know what I might do... Maybe the four house badges and the then hogwarts one in the center....

I also made a duct tape tie... A bit different thought when I made the sheets I striped the colors yellow and black and Icut on a slant so it is therefore a hufflepuff duct tape tie and as soon as I buy a clip it will be a hufflepuff clip-on duct tape tie so when the hufflepuffs party and a drink spills it comes right off smile.gif

I would take pics but I think something is wack with my camera I just tried turning it on and its screen only comes up white... oi va technology smile.gif

My current work in progress - not Harry Potter related wizard.gif - is some Christmas decorations, to hang on trees.I make them small enough so me and Mum can stick the fabric onto hologram card, and then we slip them into Christmas Cards! thumbup.gif Used to make over 40 "danglers" but limited myself to 11 this year! biggrin.gif

Oh! A friend of mine made Snitches as Christmas ornaments. They looked really good, but they did have to harm a few angels to get the feathery wings blink.gif

My current work in progress is the four house badges of Harry Potter wizard.gif They are my own intripetation of them...only printed the bages onto graph paper...but when they are done I'll post a link! biggrin.gif

This topic hasn't seen a post in a while, so I thought I'd update my own WIPs.

I'm still testing my completed HP quilt square patterns, though I finished a TON over the summer, which you can see on the quilt pages. I have a couple of new designs in varying states of doneness, as well. Yah!

I'm working on several jobs right now... a crocheted scarf, a patchwork bag, beaded ornaments, none actually HP related.

My To Do pile includes some stenciling and t-shirt recon for hpmommy and a Messenger bag for a semi-indecisive Slytherin...

MY WIP handquilting that I mentioned in my June post is now officially a UFO. It'd been too hot to hand quilt! I look forward to picking that up again soon.

Whew... seems like A LOT when it's all listed out like that!!!

Posted by: JaneMarple9 Sep 10 2006, 12:07 PM

Well I've been embroidery Harry Potter "motifs" without really following a pattern (as in a book!) biggrin.gif I printed the four house shield (I have a Harry Potter Clipart CD) onto graph paper, then more or less followed the outline. It is my own designs, so took some libilities with the colours. For example, the raven on the ravenclaw badge is gold rather than black. Then, when the shields where done, I did minature Harry Potter objects...The Mirror of Erised, Hogwarts Express, Hogwarts itself, Hedwig, a Quidditch broom and snitch, a cauldron and a Sorting Hat. Even done mini Harry Ron and Hermione smile.gif I am now working on a Welsh Green dragon. I was debating to make the dragon into Norbert, but wanted him to have some colour wizard.gif When they are all done, I hope to put them on two cusions, and then I'll let you all see them! It's certainly kept my fingers busy during the summer!

Posted by: ofenjen Sep 10 2006, 02:46 PM

That sounds absolutely amazing! I can't wait to see pictures!

Harry Potter clip art cd??? That's the first I've ever heard of such a thing. Where did you get it?

Posted by: JaneMarple9 Sep 11 2006, 02:01 AM

It came free with one of the local library printers, and the friendly librarian passed it along! biggrin.gif flowers.gif

Posted by: ofenjen Sep 11 2006, 06:18 AM

Oh my gosh.... DROOL! What a sweet & friendly librarian!

Posted by: JaneMarple9 Sep 19 2006, 03:23 PM

Ok...the embroideries are on the cushions and here are the results smile.gif
Firstly the House shields
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/Jane...broideries3.jpg

And then comes the "Harry Potter motifs" cushion
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/Jane...broideries4.jpg

If you can't see what is on this one, there's Hogwarts Castle, The Sorting Hat and Hogwarts Express on the top row. On the middle row is a mini Harry Hermione and Ron, The Hogwarts motto (In Latin and in English biggrin.gif ) and Hedwig. On the Bottom row there is a cauldron (for Potions), a Quidditch broom and a flying Snitch and finally the Mirror of Erised

Hope you like the photos! wizard.gif

I'd love to see your photos, but the link is breaking up. Hmmm, I wonder if there is some way to fix that?

Posted by: JaneMarple9 Sep 22 2006, 03:54 PM

Hmmm. The only way I can think of fixing it is posting my "blog address", which I am not sure is allowed or not. I have some of my embroideries on there. If somebody could let me know if I am allowed to include my "blog address" in my signature or not I'd appreciate it.

Posted by: ofenjen Sep 22 2006, 05:38 PM

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/JaneMarple1/2006SeptemberEmbroideries4.jpg, which worked great. Your work is gorgeous! I have so much respect for embroidery and the detail and time it takes. I have a good friend in my bee that embroiders, and honestly, she is so good, she hardly ever looks! Just wonderful to watch!

I'm not 100% sure about blog links, but you can certainly link pictures and even add them directly into your post as long as they're appropriate to the thread, which this definitely is!

I love the dragon... and the Mirror of Erised is really cool! Great collection of images. Thanks so much for sharing! flowers.gif

Posted by: JaneMarple9 Sep 23 2006, 03:22 AM

And here's the Harry Potter badges
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/JaneMarple1/2006SeptemberEmbroideries3.jpg

Posted by: Josée~Madalia Sep 23 2006, 09:25 AM

Those embroideries really look WONDERFUL! I've never embroidered, so I can't really know exactly how long it would take you, but I do cross-stitch and I know it does take a lot of time to make the smallest things.

Bravo for a very well done job! clap.gif

About posting blogs, it's fine if you're on topic. In this case, we're talking about WIPS, and you're sending us to your blog to show us something you've been working on, which is fine. If you have the direct links to the picture however, it might be best to link to that, and to post what you wrote in your blog here smile.gif

Been a while since my last "WIP" update! I've been embroidering for about 15 years now, and had a lot of embroideries in frames, and well as giving lots away. But me and Mum decided that instead of them not be displayed, and being in wardrobes, they should all go on a duvet cover and make them into a embroidered throw=over. And here is the result!

JaneMarple9, that looks lovely! It's such a great idea to make a blanket like that! Makes so much more sense than hiding the finished piece in a cupboard!!

ajihad, don't hesitate to post pictures in the different sections here... we'd love to see your work!

One of the many projects I'm working on is recovering the horrible-looking Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages books.

I want to make them look more like they fit in the HP world.

Here's one of the additions:

Junohera - really great idea. The library card is a nice touch. I look forward to seeing the finished product smile.gif

I've been a busy bee, making Christmas gifts and christmas cards!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/JaneMarple1/CHRISTMASBAUBLES2006.jpg
That is my Christmas decorations. I've also embroidered some books marks, and laminated them, so I can slip them into Christmas cards.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v78/JaneMarple1/CHRISTMASCARDS2006.jpg
These are just a handful of our Christmas cards we've (me and Mum) made this year

And perhaps my favourite of my Christmas craft, made a few years ago

This stable was made out of a milk box carton. The characters in the stable were made of plastic canvas, and then made to stand up

I especially love the cards. I'm thinking of doing my own this year with card stock and fabric. I love the technique of sewing simple shapes to make snowmen & trees.

Haven't posted in this thread for a long while - but still busy embroidering! biggrin.gif At the moment, I am making embroidered book marks on a aida band (hopefully making 12 in all, that is three full aida bands) and the bookmarks are going to be for me, me, me! excited.gif I am making bookmarks for each of the Harry Potter books with the title embroidered on it, and then some motifs representing the books around the title.
So keeping myself busy. When I have done all six of the main bookmarks (I am doing one for book seven obviously, but don't know what motifs are going with it yet! biggrin.gif ) I shall post a link here smile.gif

Hey all! This is my first post here, as well as my first Harry Potter "craft". I'm working on snitches! This is an exact copy of the ones they used in the film. Mine were NOT used in the films, however they cam from the same molds.

IPB Image

The snitch on the left is unfinished (obviously). The one on the right has gold leaf applied. I don't like the look of the gold leaf, so my next one is just going to be painted gold and maybe weathered a bit. At this rate, I'll have a whole army of snitches before too long! tongue.gif

Posted by: ofenjen Mar 14 2007, 09:48 PM

Chris, your snitch is going to be fabulous! I can't wait to see the finished product!

Posted by: chocolateisnotforbreakfast Mar 25 2007, 05:07 PM

I just finished my first official Harry Potter craft!

I got a sticker for my car... it's a half a golf ball that looks like it's stuck in the window, with shatter marks all around it. I bought some gold paint and some jewelry-wire and made myself a snitch with wings, flying into the back window of my car.

I guess technically the work of this craft is done, but I still need to take pictures and make a how-to list, so that everyone can have one! It literally only cost me less than 15 dollars to make. It also brings my car into more quidditch-love... my license plate says "BLUDGER". I figured Bludger was an appropriate name for my car, with how often I seem to run into things... All I need to do now is incorporate a broomstick and a quaffle, and I'll have the Quidditch Car of my dreams!

HELP! lol.gif I made a plastic canvas Harry Potter stationary box and I am having trouble graphing the design so I can submit it. I tried to put the pattern on graph paper and scan it into the computer, but the graph did not show up and it would only scan in back and white. If someone could help me with this I would be really greatful!

BTW: I used Josée Leblanc & Kyrane stationary design for the paper and it turned out fantastic! We all Ooo'd and Ahhhh'd over how great it turned out! Thanks! flowers.gif

Posted by: Josée~Madalia Mar 29 2007, 09:16 PM

I highly suggest you use some sort of software to graph your design. Most of them have demo versions you can download for free. They won't allow you to save, but by copying/pasting the images into another software (Paint, Photoshop, etc.), you can reach the same result and save a couple of hundreds of dollars. If you need more information about how to get this done, simply PM me and I'll let you know how to do it (or if you're a member of my Yahoo group, just look in the Files section).

P.S.: Glad the stationary turned out good... it's desperately easy to make, yet it does create gorgeous letter paper! Who'd want to buy them after that (plus where can you find Snape on letterhead paper huh?!)

Posted by: hpboy13 Mar 29 2007, 09:59 PM

I want to make a collage of all things HP. I've started out with a 50"x50" blank square on photoshop and so far have all the DH covers. I'll likely put the previous covers on, as well (at least the US ones). Then I'll put on movie posters. Any ideas past that? I'm gonna use that shot of the DA and the recent image of the sextet!

Posted by: ofenjen Mar 30 2007, 09:24 AM

HP wall calendars offer some great stills from the movies. You might also consider fan art (with artist permission) and if you do cosplay or wear a costume for Halloween, cons, etc, you could include pics of yourself.

Great idea, by the way!

The simplest way to make color charts made of squares is to open up ms paint, and zoom in to 800% and choose view grid. Then you can just use the pencil tool to mark each pixel to corrospond to your chart. When you are done, take a screen capture (hold down "alt" and push "print screen") Open up paint again or any other picture program and "paste". You might have to crop it a bit, then save it.

It should come out something like this http://www.jedigurl.com/crafts/charts/minieagle.

I have also downloaded knitting graph paper, and used photoshop to layer it over an image I'm trying to make a chart for. This way also has the benefit of using rectangular boxes, which is good for knitting, but probably wont help with plastic canvas.

Thanks for the advice Josée! I couldn't find the software you mentioned so I made my own plastic canvas graph in paint. If anyone else needs to use it just let me know. I had the good foresite to save a blank one! tongue.gif

I just submitted my HP plastic canvas stationary box, another 13 weeks or has the wait gotten longer? tongue.gif In my directions I linked the Stationary set. Brillant I tell you! That sounds so fun!!! I can't think of much other than adding some rubble to your floor... but that might be difficult to explain to visitors lol

Maybe some fashionably-tattered curtains? Some stone-like trim around doorways or windows that matches the color of the stones in the background?

JaneMarple9: I REALLY love your embroidered stuff, its so nice and amazing.

Posted by: SnapesSister May 12 2007, 03:35 PM

JaneMarple9, where do you get your ideas from? (apart from HP of course! tongue.gif )

Did you design those yourself? They're excellent!
I like to do cross stitch and embroidery, but I usually have to follow a chart! doh.gif

Although, come to think of it...about 5 or 6 years ago I got a little Harry Potter cross stitch book, with lots of cool stuff in, but the problem is, is that it's in French! doh.gif

Posted by: Josée~Madalia May 13 2007, 12:38 PM

If I were you, I'd hold on to that little book as though my life depended on it! It's out of print and very hard to come by (your only resource would be eBay, and they sell for outrageous prices)

And as a French person, I can tell you you don't need any of the written stuff if you already know how to cross-stitch. It only tells you what aida to choose, what thread, etc. The designs are all color coded and the colors refer to DMC thread numbers, which can be understood in any language smile.gif

Good luck with your cross-stitches, and don't hesitate to post pictures when you're done with some designs. I've already done Snape and the result was quite good!

Well, I have a Bellatrix costume I'm working on. Currently, the big project is the skirt. It's floor lenght, and I ripped a slit up to just above the knee for dramatic effect. However, I can't decide if I should hem it or leave it tattered? Would Bella take the time to hem her torn skirt after she escaped from Azkaban? Or would she leave it torn and not give a rip? (Terrible pun, sorry.)

Well if I see any designs in cross stitch books/magazines, which look even vaguely "Potter-ish", I think how I would be able to convert them onto material. At the moment, I am doing a embroidery of a Russian Doll (one of those dolls which you open up and there's a replicia inside, but smaller, and then another, and another....) Not doing them all differnet sizes, just different colours and designs! thumbup.gif

I would leave it frayed looking, but perhaps for practical reasons you could loosely zigzag or straight stitch so the fraying doesn't get out of hand?

QUOTE(chocolateisnotforbreakfast @ Mar 25 2007, 05:07 PM)

Have you thought about a Quaffle antenna top (I'm sure you could take a plain round one and paint it red) or a broomstick to hang from the rear-view window on the windshield? That seems like it would work. If all else fails... bumper stickers?

My WIP Prefect Badge. Made of sculpey. Gonna paint it Gryffindor colors tomorrow, for my release party costume.

I'm quite proud of it!

Posted by: Josée~Madalia Jul 14 2007, 11:37 AM

And you should be! It looks gorgeous! How big is it exactly?

Posted by: enderwillsaveusall Jul 14 2007, 06:45 PM

Honestly, I'm not quite sure. I haven't really measured it--and I set out to make a smaller version today, but, alas--it turned out big as well.

But I wore it to Monroe Michigan's Harry Potter Festival and the compliments were aplenty!

This is version two, the 'smaller' version I made today (which, really, was the same size)--I used a sparkly red sculpey-type product and a similar metallic gold, glued a pin back to the back (two, actually, for stability) and etched in a lion into the red, then stuck the gold P over it. I might paint the other one I made, as a 'just incase' sort of thing.

http://img291.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img0025ki2.jpg

This one's so you can see a sort of 'relative size'. I still think it's a bit too 'cartoony' big, but, the next version'll probably be smaller and a lot darker if I can do it.

(Sorry This is SOOOO Long)
My current WIP is the Slytherin Crest. I am cross stitching it--and it is the first thing I have ever cross stitched. I got really sidetracked and messed up already--and could not fix it because I did some stitching my own way.

Since it IS my first my Mum said I should finish it so I can compare next time.

Also since I used the guide from the craft area---After I messed up I seen you were supposed to use the plastic/yarn (can I still do it with the fabric or is there an easier pattern for me to look at?)--and according to my mum I needed to buy a larger square--which I don't know how to explain it just the little squares should be larger--I guessed I bought the smallest one. haha.

I told my Dad about wanting to do a swap some time so he said that he will take me to our towns large craft store on Wed. so I am pretty much excited--I really want to KNOW how to make a few things look nice before I sign up for a swap. But I do plan on making a pillow case as well as a felt blanket--which I have made a pillow ages ago so a pillow case should be a bit easy?... I hope... haha

I'm working on a set of CAD blueprints of Goathland Station, AKA Hogsmead, as part of a "Harry Potter" themed HO train layout. I have blueprints of Goathlands track layout and some rather rough drawings of a prototypical LNER Station similar to Goathland, and I'm hoping that someone can point me in towards good hi-res pictures of the stations building or any other references people might know. Also, as the blueprints are scalable they can be used for a variety of projects so when they;re completed I'll be hosting then for anyone that wants a copy.

Thanks smile.gif

Ran across a Stained Glass cookie recipee that uses chilled roll out cookie dough and crushed hard candy, basically cut out shapes- then smaller shapes in the cookie- for example use a star cutter, then a smaller star cutter to take out some dough- fill to the edges with crushed candy( lifesavers, jolly ranchers etc. then bake until the candy melts and spreads- be sure to cook on parchment paper. I thought it would be fun to tranfer some H.P. stencils onto heavy cardboard and use a paring knife to cut the rest of pattern out- maybe the one of Slytherins snake would be perfect for halloween. Will try out the cookie recipee first before posting it, but, any roll out cookie dough should work- this one states to bake at 375 degrees for 9-10 minutes, allow cookies to cool 10 minutes on baking tray so the candy centers don't seperate from cookie-then cool completely before storing. You can also add a hole at the top with a straw before baking if you wish to make decorations. One tip is to roll out dough between two sheets of wax paper, to make transfering of the cookie to the pan much easier.

Darnit, my beret isn't turning out well. It's almost done, but it's huge and doesn't resemble a beret. dry.gif I think it's because I knitted the whole thing in size 8 needles and the directions said to do the ribbing in size 6 and the rest in size 7. I still have yarn, so I'm going to buy the right size needles and make a new one.

Posted by: Josée~Madalia Nov 9 2007, 08:25 AM

You can just undo it all and reuse the same yarn if you'd like! Just make yourself a new ball with whatever you had used in the first place.

I find that gauge is my worst problem when knitting... Not so long ago, I tried knitting the wine cozy pattern that can be found in the knitting section, and by the time I finished it I had a nice... water bottle cozy rolleyes.gif

Posted by: Overcast Nov 11 2007, 07:28 PM

I've got a lot of WIPS! A few HP scarves, an illusion scarf from Phoenix Rising (half done). I even have things I haven't started. (I'm horrible. smile.gif) I'm planned on knitting a shawl for my aunt but stopped knitting. I'll probably crochet it.

Posted by: MagicDucks Nov 13 2007, 02:31 PM

I decided to just finish the beret since I was almost done. It turned out horrible. It's like a really big hat. It doesn't resemble a beret. It's too big for my head. I'm using it as a decoration in my room. lol.gif I'm going out today to buy the right sized needles. I just hope the store has them. Luckily I have enough yarn left to make this one. I hope the new one will turn out better.

Posted by: Josée~Madalia Nov 13 2007, 08:56 PM

You could just keep it and say Hermione knitted it for you! From what they say in OotP, you can't make the difference between her knitted socks and hats, so I'm guessing knitting isn't her forte tongue.gif

I have to start knitting gauge swatches before starting on projects too... I really don't want to knit another water bottle cozy!!

A bit!? I think it looks marvelous! You have captured that every-critical look Lucius has on his face! How large is the doll overall? Have you made other dolls (either of the Harry Potter characters or in general)? Please post pictures if you have!

And incidentally, your English is fine. Welcome to the Lounge.

Thank you so much kiss.gif .

There are no other dolls yet, but a friend asked me to make Draco. He will be my next doll. And maybe I´ll make Snape and Voldemort, too.

My old Lucius doll is approx. 43 cm (17") tall, but the new one will be about 47 cm.

When I´ve finished Lucius I´ll post some pics. biggrin.gif

You could try a fabric store or even Michaels( craft store) for the fur. Also try the bedding section of your local store- sometimes they have fur themed comforters and a pillowcase would probably have enough fur to do the book.

Right now I am in Luna obsession mode! I finished by flat beaded radish earrings - pics forthcoming. As soon as I locate the correct color and size of beads, I'll be making the movie version butterbeer cork necklace. I found a great picture today of beaded spiders, although, I might not be able to get the ring to work. I'm mostly creating my patterns off of the Noble Collection site.

What is giving me the most fits is the back cover of the movie Quibbler!!! I found a great pic of the front that just needs some perspective and color/size fixes. I can't find a good picture of the back - any suggestions? I can just barely make out the side text, "Treat yourself with the Wizarding World alternative voice". Has anyone been able to make out the coupons?

The other thing I have supplies for are weeny snitch beads using 10mm filigree gold beads and dime size silver angel wings - with a hefty dose of jewelry glue, I'm sure.

Have to get some pics taken....

Happy Crafting,
Karen

Have you got any WIPs? Tell us about them here!

I'm knitting a baby cardigan at the moment, it's baby blue, knit with 4-ply yarn and is the first garment I've ever knit. When I was around eight we made a hairband and a small purse in school but it was all in garter stitch and I had to get my nana to cast on and bind off. Now I'm trying to learn properly. I've made one incredibly wonky scarf to learn different bit's and pieces and now I'm trying with the baby cardigan. It's going well but I'm still learning as I go. 'tis a challenge but a fun one biggrin.gif

I'm not a very regular leaky lounge poster, and I noticed that there hasn't been a lot of activity here, but I've been doing a bit of research for the last month or two and am just getting started on a harry potter crafting project that I'm really excited about, and I just had to share it with other potter fans, and hopefully get some insights and feedback as I'm working on it.

So what I've started on is, I think, really neat; I'm trying to make a "real" wizarding portrait. Of course since I can't do magic, my portrait will be powered by a computer mounted inside of a heavy wooden picture frame. The first step is building a virtual picture frame that will just run as a regular desktop application. Once that part is finished, I'm going to release the program for free and start working on the second part, getting the program running on a computer built inside of a picture frame.

I won't go into any details about how the program will work and put everyone to sleep, but if anyone is interested in helping out by providing artwork, voice recordings, or helping to write the program itself - or just wants to know more about it, let me know. I have planned on the first part taking about 6 months, and another month for the second part (I hope to have everything finished by around the time of leakycon) - but of course if anyone wants to help it could get done even faster.

At the moment I am planning on using a combination of audio clips, static images, and computer animation. What I will probably do is a head scan of someone and import their face into a 3D application. The main character will be rendered and animated like in a video game, using a technique called Cell Shading (for a good example of this technique used in video games, look up screen shots for The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Jet Grind Radio, Killer7, or Dragon Quest 8). I will also render a couple of props for the character to interact with (at the moment I'm planning on a goblet, a book, reading glasses, a small end table, and a chair). This will all be put on front of a digital painting that won't move.

On top of all of that I will render something called a "bump map" which just really makes the image look like it's kind of bumpy, like a real painting. Then, on top of the actual screen, I'm going to have a transparency with an actual texture, so that the screen looks and feels bumpy, like a real painting.

As for it running like a screen saver; it will be more akin to a video game. The portrait version will be running full screen on the computer inside the portrait, and will be running all the time. For the initial desktop program version it will at least start out as just a program that you run on the desktop like any other, although I could see how a screen saver version would be interesting.

Oh man, I would love to make some scarves HP themed. I have several unfinished projects. I have a crochet baby aftgan that I started when I was pregnant with my first child. He is going to be 14 in April! It was my first big crochet project and I didn't crochet in the end pieces of yarn when I started a new color. It is one of those granny sqaure patterns. It takes about 2 hours to finish the ends per row for me and I still have 3 rows to go. Maybe I will have it ready for my first grandbaby. biggrin.gif

I also have a felt Christmas stocking to finish for my 2 year old and 4th child. I with my first child and made one not realizing I would have 3 more boys. I at least got it put together, it just needs one more snowman and a loop to hang it.

I did finish a crochet pumpkin hat for my 6 year old. He wanted to be a pumpkin for Halloween. Here is the picture.

He is around 18-20 In. tall. But now That I am finished with him I am making a smaller version. Here is a pic of him.
