So, you have this wonderful project in mind, but you don't quite know HOW to do it exactly? Well, how about you post about it here and let others help you work out the details?
at present i don't have any idea, i will plan in next month
Hi I was wondering if anyone had the pattern (or a similar pattern) to make the hat that Ron wore in PoA - you know the one outside of the shrieking shack with the cable knit (I think) and the ear flaps and the longer plaits with bobbly bits on! If you cannot understand which one i mean let me know and I will post a pic only I would really love to knit one of those!!
After some serious searching, I found http://djinnj.livejournal.com/150838.html. It's not available on Leaky Crafts, but I have contacted the author to see if we can do something about that!
Thanks Jen! That pattern will certainly do but the one I was looking for is this one (not the best pic I know but I will have to try and find a better one)

Oops! Sorry about that! Try this one, then: http://http://fathomharvill.typepad.com/fathom/2006/11/free_pattern_sn.html
I'm trying to venture into making my own set of student robes... but I have no idea of how to make them...
And the only patterns for robes are for a Madam Hootch robe........ it's a bit usefull but not as much...
Hi, danae24, have a look at this: http://http://harrypotterhaven.l2p.net/downloads/robe.html. I think it will help!
This is a Lord of the Rings pattern site that has wonderful costuming resources. http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Things/FCloak/FCloak_pattern.htm but I think you could use the hood pattern. If you look at the picture, it definitely looks long and pointy like the Hogwarts school robes.
most crafts i can't do bec. of vision & hand-eye coordination problems, but i can (and do) and LOVE latch hook weaving. Wish i could draw so i could create/design my own HP latchhook crafts! HP crafts is such a neat, fun idea, tho'!--granfan
Latch hook is one craft that I haven't seen in the HP craftdom! What a wonderful idea.
Would some of the charts we have work for that? http://69.61.75.155/#static:crafts/needlework are in this section.
ofenjen,
Thanks! i think that just might work! i'll try it & let you know (eventually) haven't done any latchhook weaving (it's the only "craft" i can even do. LOL)!--in quite awhile; hard to explain why. Thanks again--granfan
Excellent! Good luck, I look forward to seeing any projects you do.
ofenjen,
How can/do i let you see whatever "crafts/designs" i come up with--on a computer? i'm not totally computer-illiterate; i can get in & out of e-mail, etc., but i've never done anything like designs/graphics.--granfan
If your designs are drawn, you can scan them and e-mail it to us (crafts@the-leaky-cauldron.org). You can also e-mail us a picture of the final result, either taken with a digi cam or with a normal cam, then scanned. If you used some kind of program to make the design (some people use Word, Excel, or a jpeg), you can e-mail that too.
We'll be able to open the document, see what you've done, and convert the file format if need be. I really can't wait to see what you've made! It really sounds awesome, and as Jen said, we haven't seen much latchhook HP stuff... In fact I don't think I remember seeing anything!
Hey. I was referred to this topic after posting in the wrong forum.
I would like to know if you could help me find a recipe to make ink for quills. I saw Regia.com (or something similar to that name) and I can't understand that recipe. So, can you help?
Thanks!
I have never made ink myself, and though I did see the page you mentionned (http://www.regia.org/quill3.htm, unless I'm mistaken), you're quite right in saying the first recipe is complicated... Reminds me of Snape's OWL potions classes!
Reading a little further down however, I did see a recipe made with egg whites, soot and honey... I'd try that one if I were you! And if you can't manage to get it right, check your local crafts store for China ink... it's better than nothing, and it comes in a variety of colours.
Thanks a ton!
If you crochet a blanket using the basic stitch you may then cross stitch (using yarn) any Harry Potter pattern on it that you like. The basic stich gives you squares as guides.
Thanks for the tip, firephoenix; only problem is, my hand-eye coordination isn't quite good enough for me to crochet(i have a so-mild-it's-almost-completely-hidden case of cerebral palsy).--granfan
Baby Mandrake Costume?
Recently I gave birth to my first child and I thought it would be so cute to make a Baby Mandrake costume for a book 7 release party. Does anyone have ideas to sew a Baby Mandrake costume?
I'd love to hear how others might construct a soft-sculpture flowerpot base (or if a terra cotta-colored baby-carrier cover might work). What would you do for the root-like body? I have a pretty clear picture in my head how to construct the leafy, greenery headpiece.
If there is a sewing pattern out there you think might lend itself well as a base pattern, please let me know. Or do you think it would be simpler to build a Baby Mandrake costume from scratch? These are the questions I'm pondering...
Any tips or suggestions on how to construct one would be most welcome.

The only thing I've seen concerning a mandrake are the following pictures. They originally come from the http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MadameMalkins/ (The album is called "Your creation/PJ")

I've always thought that costume was ssssoooo original. Unfortunately, I don't think you can actually find a pattern for it. I tried a bit, but there really didn't seem to be anything online.
Then again, if you want to make things simple, you can just have some sort of t-shirt with a brownish base that could attach to her stroller, then have another piece cover all around the stroler in terra cotta fabric to create the pot.
As your child will probably still be very young, I think it's best not to go as complicated as the pictures above. Nothing in the face, for one thing. I'd also go for something you could remove if she starts sounding like a real mandrake out of her pot ![]()
I wish you the best of luck making that costume... And make sure to post your progress here as you go along! I'd really like to see how things turn out!
I'm not sure if I should post this here or in the Time-Turner thread.
I've had this idea in my head for weeks, but I can't figure out how to do it. I want to make a Time-Turner that will actually turn when I twist the knob. I tried the Bead-and-Wire Time-Turner because I liked the way it looked, but when I turn the knob, the smaller split ring goes out of place. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
elphie
What about that weird spellbook Harry's reading at the start of Prisoner of Azkaban Can anyone make that> or does anyone have any good pictures of it?
A lot of people have made their own Monster book of monsters. If you go to the http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/album/1105, you can see some pictures of the one Astra made.
Actualy i ment the book Harry was reading at the start of the prisoner of azkaban acording to the script it was called "Violetta stich's extreme incantations" another good idea would be Wands with actual cores someone used to sell wands that contained Bird feathers and cat whiskers and snakeskin that sort of thing
I'm sorry... I'm not a big movie fan, and as I believe I've seen PoA only once in my life (at the theatre), I don't think I can be much help. I know for a fact there's no book with such a name mentionned in the books.
If you can find a picture of what you wish to reproduce in the http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/ though, I'm sure we'd be able to help you a lot more.
As for wands with cores, I've seen them too. All you have to do is make them in two parts (one handle and then a long stick). One part fits into the other, so you can put the core in, then stick the two bits together and voilà, you've got a wand with a core inside.
Hiya--I am a long time visitor of LC but new to the forums.
I have Lupus so that means I get to be home schooled w00p! I looked at some craft guides (before they started working on the site) and wow--I never really had time to do crafts and being a guy there was nothing I really wanted to learn... Now looking at all of this I am amazed. My mother is going to help me learn to cross stitch--and I am planing on making my friend a few Slytherin items as well as buying her a wand from WB. Anyways enough about me...
The Post:
Dose anyone know of any Harry Potter craft swap sites? I found one a last night but now I can not find them--and I mean people sounded pretty nice on there--people tried there best with there craft and no matter what it turned out to look like the person who received it seemed always happy...
ALSO--Dose anyone know if it is possible to Cross stitch the DA logo made by WB?
Thank you very much--I have joined that and Craftster.
Someone should make a doe/stag themed pin, since those rosettes have been so popular the last few years.
Would like to make sun catchers using Gallery Glass paint and Liquid Leading on blank plexi-glass ovals. Is there a link or resource for simple HP outlines, say coloring book style?
Hydrangea, if you can wait a tiny little bit, we'll soon have our old fabric embellishments section up on the main site, and it'll give you access to a wide variety of stencils of all shapes and sizes. You could always look to see what you can find in the forum, but I know most of the stuff we have is on the main site... and is currently down.
If you want something to satisfy you in the meantime however, I think Mugglenet have scans of HP coloring books somewhere on their site.
We're surely doing the best we can, though it's very hard to give you a precise date. I'll try to have a go at Fabric Embellishments a little quicker though, just so you can see all of those stencils
"]I'm trying to make the new Quidditch Uniform they had in the Half-Blood Prince movie, the girl version.
so far I found these references (both to the the general look of the uniform and the for-girls uniform)

I found some great tutorial in here on how to sew/put your name on the back like it's on the actual costume, I already have the arm and leg pads and I found some brown fencing shoes that are similar.
but I'm stuck on two things:
- first, there seems to be two uniforms: one for the tryouts and one for the game. based on that I thought it would be cool to try to do both, but I can't figure out the structure of the "Try-outs" uniform. in it there is this grey underlaying clothing piece but I don't know if its a one piece or a two piece, and what exactly is it (like it looks like a Nascar uniform)
-2nd, i don;t know what fabric to use for both uniforms. the robes looks like some sort of plasticified cloth, like the one used for raincoats. but the pants? or in the try-out uniform, what material is the underlaying fabric?
Any and all help would be immensely appreciated. when I manage to finish I'll post the tutorial here
