So who out of our beloved wizarding couples do you think had the best love story. I always really loved Fleur and bill they are so sweet together and they always seemed so totally wrapped up in each other. Lupin and Tonks always tugged at my heart strings abit as did lily and james. So who's relationship is your favourite and why? heart.gif kiss.gif

Posted by: Aleddodc Feb 12 2009, 04:06 AM

Lupin & Tonks, a relationship of love that was sadly doomed from the start. RIP x heart.gif

No doubt about it. Ron/Hermione heart.gif

Posted by: CoolCatElly Feb 12 2009, 07:23 AM

Sooo Ron/Hermione

And I have to say James/Lily as well

Posted by: Shard Feb 12 2009, 11:16 AM

Ginny/Harry for me as well, it just felt good two equal warriors falling for each other.

Posted by: Luce_depp Feb 12 2009, 04:23 PM

Even though it didn't quite work out and may have only been on sided.

Snape and Lily was a good love story.

I think Lily james but as well. They jsut seem like the happiest couple out of all of them. To go from hating someone to loving them is a pretty good story...

my favourite ship of all time is Ron/Hermione, and i supported them since that first encounter on the Hogwarts Express. but i think Remus/Tonks was touching and beautiful but so tragic, it made me very sad. i think they were probably the ones who got most tears from me out of everyone who died in the battle of hogwarts. they were both completely in love with each other, and the way they seemed to show it in opposite manners. this may be a little off-topic, but one of my fave scenes in DH was when harry and remus argued at grimmauld place, the whole lupin leavin tonks thing, i kinda of understood remus when he said he was a danger to tonks, to teddy, but i side with harry that he should not have left them.

so i guess Remus/Tonks gets my vote for best love story happy.gif
but Ron and Hermy. well theyre awesome.

Posted by: spicefan1978 Feb 12 2009, 08:12 PM

I have to say Ron and Hermione because we saw how their love blossomed over the seven years.
Remus and Tonks was tragic:(

Posted by: siriuslysirius11 Feb 12 2009, 08:48 PM

Remus/Tonks... it was like a "forbidden love" kind of story and I really love them together. biggrin.gif

Posted by: The Crimson Artist Feb 13 2009, 08:22 AM

I don't really remember very many love stories occurring within HP. Most that did, I didn't like (Fleur/Bill, Lupin/Tonks and Harry/Ginny are all uninteresting and without spark, imo). So I guess I'm really only left with Ron and Hermione. Though Ron still irks me as a character on his own, I think he and Hermione have the best romance. Mostly because they're the only ones who were developed properly.

James/Lily is another boring couple, though it's hard to be an accurate judge since we never get to read about them in a normal, positive light. We only saw scenes where they were involved with Snape in one way or another. And Cho/Harry was just annoying.

I also enjoyed Viktor/Hermione, because that storyline was very romantic. Too bad Rowling intended Hermione for Ron. I also wish Hagrid and Maxime had worked out.

Posted by: SweetTangerine. Feb 14 2009, 02:20 PM

My favourite of course is Ron/Hermione's. After that would be Lupin/Tonks. smile.gif
Those are two of my favourite couples.

Posted by: lnh92 Feb 14 2009, 02:30 PM

It's Ron/Hermione for me. They were best friends and they fell for each other. They then became all awkward around each other. And the moment with their first kiss, when Ron picks her up is so romantic. heart.gif

Posted by: blue4t Feb 14 2009, 03:24 PM

To answer the question in the thread title I say Ron and Hermione. It's the reason why I love this ship. It's just, oh my gosh, every little tidbit that leads to their relationship warms my heart. HBP when he's in the hospital wing and says "Er-My-Nee" and in DH when they go to sleep looking as if they're holding hands, CoS when he looks at her empty seat in class...there's just so many moments, I can't describe how it makes me feel.

Posted by: Silmaril Feb 14 2009, 03:29 PM

Snape and Lily.
Well, itīs not a love story, it ended fast but yes... when I read about that story I found it moving, so my favorite romantic story, the Snape one with Lily.

Posted by: Garden State Geek Feb 14 2009, 03:37 PM

I'd say Ron/Hermione. Their relationship started with puppy love, and, as they got older, they went through the typical teenage bumps, bruises, and emotional hurts. In the end, they'd developed a true bond, although I expect they squabble a lot.

And to Silmaril, I agree that Snape's undying love for Lily was quite moving.

I knew Ron & Hermione were destined for each other and I love the awkward scenes between them and how they both try hard to catch each other's attention, but it doesn't happen for them until later. It was so great to see them together even if it did take a really long time.

Harry & Ginny's relationship seemed more intense and passionate - most likely because we read from Harry's POV most of the time. Thier first kiss is just every girl's dream. heart.gif

Posted by: mugglemom4 Feb 14 2009, 04:01 PM

Well I just loved it when Harry finally planted that kiss on Ginny. I had been waiting since I knew she liked him for it to happen. It was awesome!

Posted by: fidelia Feb 14 2009, 04:24 PM

I'm going to have to go with the "Severus/Lily" romance. smile.gif It just encompasses so much...the early childhood friendship, the turbulent teenage years, the belated adult understanding of the power of true love, which was the pivot upon which Severus' universe turned. (And given that this love spurred Severus on to safeguard Harry, well, that just gives it an extra edge!) "The Prince's Tale" showed us that this love between Severus and Lily was as integral to the series as Lily's love for Harry....and it's one of the most haunting romances in literature. When Severus reveals that his patronus is a doe, the same as Lily's, it surely changed how we viewed an entire series. smile.gif

Well one of my favorite quotes is you don't have to have a lover on valentine's day you just have to have love and I don't look at the idea of a love story as exclusively romantic love. The relationship between Harry and Sirius broke my heart. That is true love in a familial sense and it meant the most to me because two people feeling lost and alone found each other (albeit for a short time) and the loss of Sirius broke my heart more than anything. I choose Sirius to be my valentine, if only he were here to have me sad.gif But that is my favorite love story. Totally not the "cannon couple best love story" implied but it's my favorite smile.gif

Posted by: bellamarie95 Feb 14 2009, 07:10 PM

heart.gif My favorite couple has to be ron and hermione their story is the only one that was explained well and that made more sense other than that i would have to say lupin and tonks their story was really a tale of forbiden love and to think that they didn't get to see teddy grow up heart.gif

Posted by: ChaniElizabeth Feb 14 2009, 07:32 PM

squid.gif so, the giant squid and the aragog. for sure, they were both big beasts with big heart...
or dobby and winky. dobby never found his love. winky was too far gone. LOL i love creature romances smile.gif

Posted by: Alice Weasley Feb 14 2009, 07:33 PM

I have to say Ron and Hermione. I'll admit that from GOF on, a huge part of what got me excited about reading the books was their relationship because I desperately wanted them to get together! I feel like they're a much more "real" couple; they're not sappy and romantic with each other all the time. They can argue and tease each other but they still love each other. I could actually talk about them all day but I think you guys get the picture. They are just too adorable.

Posted by: Harrys Horntail Feb 14 2009, 08:36 PM

I'm a big Harry/Ginny girl wub.gif I just think Harry's reactions to her are so adorable when he realises he likes her and she seems to be very capable of standing up to him which I reckon he needs. they just 'work' together for me smile.gif And their first kiss was just wub.gif

I've moved this thread out of the Valentine's Day Event archive so that people can still post in it.

Please don't forget to tell everyone why you find a particular canon love story touching. heart.gif

My favorite would have to be Harry/Ginny. They just worked from the beggining. Though i also love Hermione/Ron.

Posted by: Harryfan24 Mar 2 2009, 09:59 PM

I would have to say that Harry/Ginny is my favorite. (obviously!) I just felt like it was a long time coming. They are both so similar, yet different. It is as if they complete each other. Plus, Ginny can calm Harry down. No one else can do that! smile.gif Sorry for being such a sap!

I also adored Lupin, and Tonks. Their love for each other was just so...inspiring. They loved each no matter.

Posted by: HalfBloodPrince-et Mar 2 2009, 11:20 PM

I define best as most interesting.

Severus/lilly and Voldemort/Bellatrix (even though it's one sided it's fasinating!).

Posted by: Miss Smarticle Mar 2 2009, 11:58 PM

Draco / Harry Ohh, you wanted a canon ship! biggrin.gif

Really though, if I had to choose which actual relationship had the most romance behind it, I'd have to say... hm, I don'tknow. There's a lot.

- Remus/Tonks was adorable. I cried so hard when I found out they both died! But at least they went together. sad.gif Poor Teddy!

- Lilly/Snape I must say was also cute, even if it didn't work out right. Darn Snape's slip-of-the-lip! You know they would have been together if he hadn't called her a mudblood that one time!

- Ron/Hermione have the whole love/hate thing down.

- Harry/Ginny were destined since COS. I mean, come on. You can't personally save someone's soul and their body from a giant snake and not get attatched as more than a friend.

I actually can't pick which one had the best, becuase in all of them (or at least the three I'm thinking of right now) there were good parts that made them my favorite.
My favorites are Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione, and Lily and James. All three had something about them that satisfied my romantic nature. smile.gif

oh yeah. they're cute! too bad that both of them died.

i love Harry and Ginny of course. and also Ron and Hermione, the fact that they had love at first sight but only told each other 7 years later is really cute. tongue.gif

Arthur & Molly. They were the most stable relationship as well. Married during the first war and sticking together for all those years & raising a big family.

Harry & Ginny has always seeemed fcrced to me. Sure Ginny had a crush on him when she was young, but all of a sudden in HBP there they are.

In DH, I like how cute Dean & Luna are. When everyone's leaving the RoR to go fight, and Dean takes Luna's hand. Even though it's not canon.

Posted by: IcklEshAIrAkIns Apr 24 2009, 11:29 AM

.....i vote for, Ginny/Harry, there's much more story in there, and i wont forget how they got together, it was wonderful...

..i also like Lily/Snape, it's so dramatic, full of bitterness, lies, secrets, and drama, my best chapter in the DH is the prince's tale...

...there's nothing much fussy about Ron/Hermione they're always bickering, not much drama...

...Tonks/Remus is nice too, sweet, they had to die together, side by side...

Posted by: JaneMarple9 Apr 24 2009, 03:33 PM

There are so many fascinating love stories. I loved the revealation of Lily and Snape in Deathly Hallows - explained why Snape was like he was.
I loved Ron and Hermione's kiss in DH - Ron wasn't the brightest, on picking up Hermione's signals. But they finally got together.
Harry and Ginny were so meant to be - Ginny fell in love with Harry when she first met him, even though she didn't go to Hogwarts until the following year. She was sensible, she knew Harry would finally realise how much she meant to him.
But my favourite couple is Molly and Arthur. They are so amazing - Molly more or less runs the family, while Arthur is the calming influence, when Molly gets worked up. And anyone who has a pet name of "Mollywobbles" for their wife, has to be the perfect couple heart.gif

Ron and Hermione win this debate if you ask me. Their friendship survived so many quarrels and hardships...watching their relationship develop was so...real. I love Harry and Ginny, don't get me wrong, but they feel so...meant to be. Where Ron and Hermione feel like they just love each other so much that not any fight could have kept them from being together in the end. That's a real relationship right there. God and the tension...I'm sure they have fabulous sex. Haha.

A close second is Tonks and Lupin...for a lot of the same reason that I love Ron and Hermione so much.

Posted by: aricarrot May 12 2009, 09:48 PM

Tonks and Lupin all the way! Oh, I love their love so much! I love their characters... awwww. I guess runner up would be Ginny/Harry because Ginny is among Tonks and Lupin as my favorite characters. So I'm happy for her. And they are cute smile.gif

Posted by: Silvergale May 16 2009, 10:35 AM

My all time favorite couple is Molly and Arthur<3 They're living, fictional truth that love is an utterly strong bond and I wish that all mariages could be like their's. In a close second though is Snape and Lilly. It always makes me cry to read The Prince's Tale and see that Snape never got the chance to express his true feelings for Lilly, but he still holds on to them.

Posted by: Emms May 26 2009, 12:17 PM

My two favorites would have to be Ron/Hermione and Remus/Tonks. Remus/Tonks might be from less of a canon perspective and more how I put things together-I love Remus, and the whole forbidden love thing always does me in. And gosh, it was sad.

But Ron and Hermione are the most developed and believable couple. I never understood the Harry/Hermione shippers, it always seemed clear to me that it was Ron and Hermione from the beginning. After GoF, I couldn't see how people were thinking it would end up any other way. I always thought they had a really interesting, rocky friendship: They were friends and obviously cared deeply about each other, but Ron was terribly immature and unreasonable at times. I think Hermione always knew how it was going to end up, she had an inkling, and was just waiting for things to fall into place and for Ron to grow up a bit, as she knew it and he would. The way I see it, they became friends in the beginning with little crushes on each other (which, at 11, they probably didn't know what to do with.) For years they were best friends with the tension there, fights and Ron's immaturity resulting...but really, they didn't have to say anything, they just knew, and it slowly developed from best friends and teenage emotional quarrels to a real, adult relationship. LOVES IT

Posted by: PotterFan-Man May 26 2009, 10:24 PM

I love Ron and Hermoine's relationship. All throughout the books and movies, there are small side-references to their like for eachother. They are just meant to be. They care for each other immensly and their differences make them great together.

Harry and Ginny is another one too. After Dean, Ginny was open, and Harry suddenly realized his feelings for Ginny, and they kissed. Ever since then, it was bound to be a great relationship.

Although they weren't a couple I think the Snape-Lily story was touching , I'm a sucker for angsty romance and unrequited love tongue.gif .The best love story between the actual couples was,in my opinion, Remus and Tonks .

Posted by: muggle..andproudofit May 31 2009, 03:14 PM

the one that melted my heart was the Harry / Ginny
they like couldn't be together but like they got together
in the end

Don't get me wrong: Snape = all time favorite character EVER.
But, Lily/Snape is not my favorite couple, because they were never a couple to begin with. It's terribly tragic from Snape's POV *sniff*

However, angst and comfort are always a plus, so *drumrollplease* Remus/Tonks are my favs!! Too bad Jo slaughtered them in the end. >.<

Posted by: invisibilitybooster1 Jun 25 2009, 01:07 PM

even though i love the Harry/Ginny ship, the Ron/Hermione ship cuts into my heart. it just completely makes me melt, especially when it's hermione who makes the move. it's just so sweet.

i also love the James/Lily ship too. i think it's great how she got him to change and become mature, all because he wanted her to give him a chance.

lupin and tonks was awesome too, the whole forbidden, and nurealistic love that they had was like an absolute fairytale

Posted by: BookishBaubles Jul 5 2009, 05:15 PM

From the moment I started reading the books, I've always shipped Ron and Hermione. In fact, they remind me of my own relationship with my boyfriend.

They're obviously attracted, but being young and naive about love until then, they're very awkward with each other. (That's not reminiscent of my boyfriend and I, we were pretty open about liking each other.)

Then, finally, things are revealed. As we all know, repressed desires eventually explode. They both look upon each other in a mix of love and frustration. (That is very reminiscent of my boyfriend and I. I love to read, he hasn't read a thing since graduating high school. He's a bit childish, I'm mature for my age. We're exasperated with each other, but we're in love.)

I love this pairing because I find the bond they share in life very special, and although they bicker, they know that when the heat is on, they'll do anything for each other.

(Plus, I always seem to pick the canon pairing. Oh, well.)

Posted by: NymphadoraMae Jul 5 2009, 05:23 PM

Ron and Hermione were the pair I always rooted for throughout the books and I was so happy that they found their way in the end and yup, I'll have to agree with Tonks and Lupin too. They were fantastic!

Posted by: lupinwandcaster Jul 5 2009, 09:01 PM

Tonks and Lupin by far have the best story. Tonks loved Lupin even though he was shunned by society. Now that's true love.

Posted by: snady Jul 10 2009, 01:38 PM

Ron & Hermione. It was just really nice to watch how it developed over such a long time and how they just grew up.

Then probably James & Lily, I wish we could have learned some more about them, and The Marauder era in general.

Then Harry & Ginny, I really loved how Jo wrote about the monster in Harry's chest and stuff, it just made it even more fulfilling when they finally got together.

Posted by: snape87 Jul 16 2009, 11:37 PM

I think by far my #1 fav was harry/ginny because she liked him back in the chamber of secrets and when he saved her thats when I knew they would hit it off... in hbp when they finally kiss I bout lost it lol =p just cause they have worked on that forever and it was bout time they made that big step...

#2 is hermoine/ron just cause he is sooooooo not there and she is all the brains one would need so she makes up for both of them and she accepts him for who he is not because he is famous like "viktor crum" and in dh when she makes the move I went crazy it finally happened...

#3 james/lily i wish there was more to their story though =/

Posted by: Scarlet~Phoenix Jul 19 2009, 09:59 AM

Ron and Hermione are just the best thing since sliced bread. Can't beat the two of them in my mind. I never even bothered actively shipping it because I just knew it would happen and it was so perfect. Their kiss had me bawling of happiness. We all knew it would happen since GOF, if not earlier. Ron and Hermione are like Han Solo and Leia in Star Wars, the two are friends, but constantly fighting and annoying each other, but really love each other.

I think the best story (partially in terms of originality and the way it turned out) might be Remus and Tonks *HBP movie spoiler* which they failed to explore in the film, showing that they were already together rather than Tonks suffering from unrequited love. Remus and Tonks were just so cute because Remus really did love her, but thought he was too dangerous, poor, and old, but Tonks didn't care and still wanted to be with him. And then they ended up married with a child and dead together. =(
