Alright I started this thread to spread the word of the drink that is Irn Bru. This stuff is as they say down in London is the dogs b****cks. For those who haven't heard of it, it's a drink we here in Scotland drink. So if you love this stuff like me let us know

Posted by: the1minority Feb 27 2006, 03:33 PM

I can't remember the last time i drank Irn Bru, it's on offer down at Tecos though.

Irn Bru - made in Scotland, from girders!!!

Yep, I like it and I live in the south.  I don't see much of it in the shops, but I know sales outstrip Coke hands down in Scotland.  If I drink enough, my hair might just turn to a carroty hue...

LOVE Irn Bru!!!!!!  It's the best drink to cure hangovers too!

Posted by: Spinks Feb 27 2006, 04:58 PM

I mostly just drink tea, beer and water, but Irn Bru is of a better class of soft drink than most biggrin.gif. It's the only way to make vodka potable.

Posted by: hebridean black Feb 27 2006, 05:18 PM

Irn Bru is yummy! I love it! especially when its just out the fridge. I like irn bru bars too (chew bars) but they dont really taste like the drink laugh.gif

Posted by: Lord Montymort Feb 27 2006, 05:18 PM

I've never tried Irn Bru with vodka, but I don't think I'd want to laugh.gif Yep it's made from girders and I love how it can't be sold in the US cause they won't tell them whats in it laugh.gif I haven't had the chew bars since I was kid.

I'm such a traitor to my nation but I just don't like Irn Bru.  Obviously, I love the adverts, but I just can't bring myself to drink something that has been artificially made that colour.  I feel the same way about coke, and the green stuff we used to get at the school Christmas dances.

Do you Irn Bru fans also like deep-fried mars bars?   There's a chippy near me that does deep fried creme eggs but I really feel that's one step too far.  On the Irn Bru and vodka debate, I used to know someone who drank irn bru and peach schnapps, but just thinking about that makes my stomache turn

Why would you assume we eat deep-fried mars bars? Just because we like Irn Bru. But no I don't eat deep fried mars bars

Posted by: Sarahlouise Feb 27 2006, 06:23 PM

Wasn't an assumption just a general wondering!! tongue.gif

I love Irn Bru, it is one of the only fizzy drinks that I actually like. Like wise I do not like every thing deep-fried, but my dad told me about this place from when he was my age that you could pizza deep-fried.

I LOVE IRN-BRU

oh and on the subject of deep fried food, deep fried sausages, burgers and haggis is brilliant biggrin.gif

Yeah i know but its because the irn-bru will be imported to America so they dont want it incase their is some sort of dangeous ingrediants in it. Its like how when people go to america from britain they are not allowed to take fruits.

Posted by: crazykirsty Feb 28 2006, 12:16 PM

I love that there is a thread on Irn Bru! Can't agree that's it's good with Vodka, but as a hangover cure it is the one and only thing that can help me face the day after the night before!
It's also pretty good with brandy!  :toast2:

Nice to see they don't care if they're own products contain dangerous ingredients.

Fruits is actually for quarantine though. So that foreign lifeforms aren't brought in. Be it viruses or insects of whatever. Although I'd imagine a poisoned apple would also be confiscated...    :D

That is a bit calling the pot kettle black if Coke doesn't reveal its ingredients but yet Irn Bru can't be sold in the US because they won't reveal their secret. But that is the reason why it can't be sold in the US

Ah, I was going to say, "hm, never heard of it before," but I guess that explains it.

Guess I'll have to make a note to try some when I'm in the UK this summer... if I can trust that Monty's taste in drinks is anything like his taste in music, it should be pretty good. tongue.gif

[Diet and original] Irn Bru is top notch and is probably my favourite beverage behind Diet Dr. Pepper and Diet Barqs.  My stomach gave a little lurch though, as I was going through this thread and noted some people like it mixed with vodka.   :puke:  :puke:  :puke:

Irn Bru... I still remember the day when I got on a plane to Tokyo and asked (as a little boy of age 8) why I couldnt have Irn Bru...  I was a heart breaking moment to learn that it was only available in Scotland...

But you know you are home in Scotland when you drink down that awesome "ginger".... mmmm going to buy some tomorrow...

Posted by: Ginny-From-A-Bottle Feb 28 2006, 10:44 PM

It's available in Canada, but only in select stores.  It is becoming more popular and more available which is great.  Now I'm craving a bottle.  Thanks for that!   eyebrow.gif

I cannot believe there is a thread dedicated to Irn Bru.  My hubby--a Glaswegian--raves about it.  I wasn't so keen on it, but the advertisements are hilarious.

I ordered some from this British imports store for our wedding rehearsal BBQ.  (In the US it is tradition--albeit not completely necessary--to invite the out-of-town family, and since half the wedding guests were out-of-town family, we had a huge BBQ in my mom's backyard).  But to extend a loving hand to our new Scottish relatives, we were fully stocked with Irn Bru.  The kids went crazy, and that has gotten me a lot of mileage with the in-laws to this day!

THE Experience. Why is it Irn Bru features roughly the colour and extravagance of Harry Potter's infamous Pumpkin Juice?

Maybe Jo was drinking it while she was writing about Harry's first experience of Pumpkin Juice tongue.gif

The only thing that can compare to a deep fried Mars Bar with ice cream is a deep fried BOUNTY bar with ice cream!  Deep fried Bounties are harder to find, though, because I think this is a Canadian chocolate bar.  It's chocolate and coconut, similar to a Mounds bar.

Perfect Saturday supper (aka heart attack on a platter):  fish and chip with plenty of salt and malt, mushy peas/peas pudding and beet, followed by a deep fried Mars Bar with ice cream, and Irn Bru to wash it all down!  :eat:  :eat:  :eat:
