Harry Potter discussion forum for movies, books, and more! - The Leaky Lounge _ Leaky Image Galleries _ Your Favourite Harry Potter Film Poster

Posted by: MaraudingDon Feb 27 2006, 05:46 AM

Another day, another poll biggrin.gif !

What was your favourite film poster?

Now I know that there were literally tens of posters for each film, so for ease of use for the poll, I would like people to choose between the 4 official posters, ie, those covers that were also used on the DVD's.

So for the Philosophers Stone, we had the tagline "Journey beyond your imagination", and a large image of Harry, surrounded by headshots of DD, Hagrid, Hermione, Ron, Snape and McGonogall. Also shown were floating candles, the Hogwarts Express and Hogwarts.

Chamber of Secrets had our heroic trio bathed in a eerie green light. Harry holding GG's sword, Ron holding his broken wand and Hermione holding a book. Dobby was shown at the bottom and the tagline was "Something evil has returned to Hogwarts!"

The Prisoner of Azkaban movie poster, again, had the trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione, with Sirius and Hogwarts in the background. Harry is holding the Marauders Map and posters saying "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS WIZARD?" are in the bottom right. The tagline here was "Everything will change". Also shown are Crookshanks, a Dementors hand and the talking heads from the pub in Hogsmeade.

Goblet of Fire showed the champions, plus Ron and Hermione, with the stands for the second task in the background.

Order of the Phoenix focused on the DA and rebellion against authority, with the prophecy globes featured in the character posters.

Half Blood Prince is centered around the action in the cave (so far) with a nod towards Harry's Horcrux Hunt.

Which film had your favourite, and which ones didn't you like.

I am really surprised at this. The CoS film poster is gorgeous. The one I really dislike is GoF. They all look too fake, especially Emma Watson who is so beautiful in real life, and yet looks as if she is made of plastic.

The poll isn't working for me... sad.gif

I like SS/PS the best. IPB Image <-- That's the cover on my dvd. I like the layout of it. Harry in the center, with Dumbledore, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Hedwig and Griphook (not sure why he managed to get on the cover but oh well) surrounding him. The Hogwarts castle in the background silhouetted against the moon. And to the left of Dumbledore you can see the little boats with the first years crossing the lake. There's also the little drawing of Quidditch right above Dumbledore's head.... I just think it's pretty cool.

My second favorite is Chamber of Secrets. It's a very close second. I think the only reason I like the Sorcerer's Stone poster better than Chamber's is because Stone's has more detail in it.

Third for me is Prisoner of Azkaban, and still I like this one very much too. I had it as my desktop background on my computer for a year. This one has a lot of little details in it also, which I love.

And lastly is Goblet of Fire. This is the only poster that I'm not very fond of. I agree that everyone on the cover looks a little fake... like they're made of porcelain or something. I just don't like the layout. I like http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/gallery/default/picture/1780 poster better than the other one. It has Moody in the background, and Harry fighting the dragon... I wish it was the dvd cover....

I've set the poll up again after it went missing in the forum conversion smile.gif .

It depends on the poster. They have so many different posters at the moment. I do have a favorite GOF and POA ones. I will have to look them up and post them.

Posted by: mikey Apr 9 2006, 11:48 AM

I've had the Philosphers stone poster (the one with all the kids in boats, floating towards Hogwarts as my screensaver for the last couple of months. there's something wonderful about it, the water, Hogwarts looking exciting, the lanterns on the boats. hagrid filling his tiny little boat, but the others fitting at least 2-3 kids in sorcerer.gif A great look

Posted by: MaraudingDon Apr 10 2006, 05:50 AM

They released tens and tens of different posters for the Prisoner of Azkaban movie. You'll find many of them http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/gallery/default/category/224

I love the one of Draco and Snape, but I wonder why they put Hermione in there too with the tagline, "Character will be tested."?

I chose the PoA poster because there are so many elements to it. It's has a lot of features to it, I enjoy the SS poster for this same reason. I just like the PoA poster because it appeals to me more so than it does the others.

That is probably the one poster I disliked the most wink.gif ! I thought it drab and lacking in any artistic direction, but then I haven't really liked any of the GoF posters.

I agree. While the tagline was cool, I think the poster, artiscally speaking, was a little weird. I didn't like the angles and things that were there. I just thought it didn't flow as well as the others. My personal favorite is the PS/SS one. I liked how Harry was the center and how everything else kinda revolved around him.

I really like this one as well, I think mainly because it was the first one I saw relating to the film and it still now reminds me of the excitement I felt when I knew the GOF film was due to be coming out soon.

I still really like the PS posters as well, mainly because they seem a lot more 'magical' to me.

Posted by: LacewingFlies Apr 25 2006, 08:13 AM

I just love the PoA poster. In the GoF poster, they all look fake to me.

Posted by: SaraAusSD Apr 25 2006, 08:20 AM

I didn't care for the SS poster moslty because it was too busy. I'm really into simple posters that can give a powerful statement. That one just has too much going on. The simple poster for GoF with just harry on it bothers me just because of the kid's hair. Harry's hair in that film just irritated me in general. My favorite is his one:
IPB Image
Although there is alot going on in that poster it doesn't look like they took random scenes from the film and squash them in a poster.

biggrin.gif I have that full size poster on the wall right in front of me. I just love the tone of the colours, the layout, everything.

I also have a CoS poster and a PS poster in my study, but I cannot find a GoF one I like. The actors look like plastic models.

I thought it may be fun to revive this old poll and discussion thread as we are now getting official poster artwork for the OotP film smile.gif .

The LV OoTP poster is still kind of startling, because it is not what I expected and it's just so ... disturbing. I have a lot of the movie posters including the PoA poster you posted, but it's difficult to say which is my favorite. I have the CoS poster of Snape, like the full-size one-sheet from the theater which is kind of dramatic. But, I love the SS poster with the boats & looking up at Hogwarts, that scene is still just so magical.

Posted by: MaraudingDon Dec 5 2006, 07:02 AM

After some rather pathetic begging by myself wink.gif , the fabulous Gallery Girls have found and uploaded some more wonderful examples of previous Potter movie posters clap.gif !

At http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/gallery/default/album/2014 link you will find 17 images from the first movie, including this lovely shot.

At http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/gallery/default/album/172 link we have 75 posters and adverts from the CoS film, including this one.

Or if our heroic trio doesn't do it...how about the Potions Master?!!

Posted by: Moose_Starr Dec 5 2006, 12:12 PM

Oh wow ... the SS poster you posted is one that I was given at the theater, & the CoS Snape poster is the one I was refering to yesterday. I have the full size version & it's kind of dramatic to have the Potions Master seemingly standing there.

I went the very first SS poster. I like the fact that most of the main characters are on it and it just has that new magical tough to it.

The LV for the OOP is just creepy. It almost dares you to go and see the movie.

Posted by: Madsdagirl Dec 8 2006, 04:08 AM

I love that Snape poster! I hadn't seen it before. It looks fantastic... very menacing.
That first SS/PS poster is a bit of an icon really, I remember seeing it for the first time and getting so excited! I love the CoS poster of the trio because of Dobby in the left corner!

i still cant believe that WB made such a huge mistake with the tag line...i bet it went through at least 100 peple and nobody noticed that a comma was missing. doh.gif

My favorite Harry Potter film poster is Goblet of Fires poster. Not only because Goblet of Fire is my favorite movie sofar, but alro because I do graphic design and the posters look (the whisp like things) looked really cool (I think the whisps were on Goblet of Fires poster). My second favorite poster is for Prisoner of Azkaban.

i think Fleur is not the only one who looks odd - all of them look like they were made of wax. especially poor Emma Watson, who looks just horrible unsure.gif
and i dont like the photoshopped background either, too fake for my taste...but maybe im just too picky ponder.gif

Posted by: canarycream Jan 13 2007, 11:18 AM

PS--especially the one where we see Hagrid and Harry from the back, looking at Hogwarts in the distance. The thing that puts me off in all the rest is that Ron always looks scared. Everyone else gets to pose looking fierce, but he always looks like he's about to start crying. Not cool.

Posted by: Aquavirius Jan 13 2007, 11:33 AM

I really liked the POA ones...I like all the elements of the movie they incorporated without it looking over-crowded. I also really like the PS/SS ones, they are really beautiful and magical looking. I agree with the people saying the Gof ones looks almost fake, I think they over did trying to make them look all clear and sharp and pretty. I like teaser poster for OotP, it certainly is menacing (and cool) looking and would spark interest in the film for people who have maybe never seen one before.

I hadn't seen this one before, being an American. But taking a look at it in our http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/gallery/default/album/2014 for Philosopher's Stone posters, I must admit it is a touching image--

Hogwarts is the only real home either Harry or Hagrid have had . . . and this poster conveys that poignancy very nicely.

Woh, I didnt vote yet already, so I cant see the poll statistics, but I am surprized that CoS has 0 votes. The only GoF poster that I liked was the teaser poster with Harry standing in profile & it's kind of misty but I didnt but any GoF posters. All the other movies have awesome posters, & the new OoTP posters are neat, too. I didn't care for the teaser poster with LV only. Although the pic itself was striking & powerful, it was just *too* LV. This one with the DA is very powerful, & I like how *The Rebellion Begins* mirrors *The Magic Begins* of the very first movie.

Overall, the ones from POA I liked the best (especially the Snape and Draco one (and yes, I too wondered what Hermione was doing there)). But, the new one, "The Rebellion Begins," that is pretty cool. There is just something awesome about Dumbledore's Army in general.

Posted by: LizetM May 27 2007, 11:34 PM

So far, the OotP, IMO, have been the best and the coolest, despite all the extra, IMO, unnecessary photoshop-ing. biggrin.gif

I know its not a poster, per say, its more a wallpaper, but that one of the Order next to the Trio really made me smile. If there is one poster/wallpaper that defines the movie's title at least, its that wallpaper!

Posted by: Hagiographer13 May 28 2007, 12:44 AM

I agree with LizetM--the OotP wallpapers from the website are truly amazing!

I also really like the character posters they did for this film. This is something they started doing back for PoA and they have gotten better with each film.

My personal favourite of these--

IPB Image

I love Gary Oldman as Sirius . . . cry.gif

Posted by: moony_lupin May 28 2007, 06:46 PM

It was a tussle between PoA and OoTP, but OoTP won out. biggrin.gif

They have obviously put a lot of effort into creating the posters, and as someone said earlier I like all the determined look of the DA members. The prophecy orbs are a smart idea and look stunning. thumbup.gif I also like one of the first ones with Voldemort reaching out with his hand.

Posted by: Hagiographer13 Jul 23 2007, 11:44 PM

The interesting thing about this last film is that I haven't really SEEN the posters out in public as much as I did for GoF. Plus, they seem to be awfully hard to get ahold of for purchase this time around. I don't get it: with the full knowledge that the film would take a big hit in its second weekend of release because of the book coming out, you would think WB publicity would have made a big push and effort to get the word out. conf.gif

Anyway--OotP posters are now my favourite of the lot! (Fickle, I know! tongue.gif ) I just really like the whole "rebellion" theme. thumbup.gif

Posted by: jaynebosco Jul 23 2007, 11:54 PM

My favourite one was PoA; I just recently read the book and noticed the things that the film missed, as I have watched the film at least 3 or 4 times already, including the time that I saw it first in the theatre.

OoTP is a close second, even though I haven't read the entire book (I have read a couple of chapters, but quit while on vacation in Mexico during Christmas a few years ago).

Posted by: pansyful Jul 29 2007, 07:54 PM

I voted for the GOF posters. i really got into the movie when i saw the posters. it was intense! the whole darkness and fog thing going on in the background and the actors had this really wicked look in their eyes especially the champions. it was all awesome!

Posted by: KimmyNZ Jul 29 2007, 08:10 PM

I voted for the PoA posters, even though, in truth, i was seriously disappointed by the film. PoA is my favourite of all the books, except maybe DH, and the movie was just a really big let down. Why did they move the set from a perfectly good one to one that looked nothing like Hogwarts? conf.gif There was no lake! there was no real forest! And the Dementers reallt didnt do it for me. Also, if the director had read "Quidditch through the Ages" he would have known how many basic Quidditch rules the only game in the movie was breaking! I've wanted to say that fo years!!

Posted by: John-Robert Aug 13 2007, 12:19 PM

I really liked the PoA Posters; just because they were the dark blueish black. So, I voted for PoA but I really liked the International Poster, (http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/picture/158710) for Order of the Phoenix.

Wonder what the DVD Cover will look like... smile.gif

Well, as a shameless Jason Isaacs fan, I gotta love this OotP poster, recently added to the http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/picture/189290 --

I really have to wonder what they have in mind for HBP. ponder.gif

Ooooh, I can't believe I hadn't seen that one before! I love it! heart.gif

Now that we FINALLY have official HBP http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/album/5148 released by WB (gee none of them look like those fan-made ones, do they? tongue.gif ) we can add that film to the mix.

Of course all the films have more than one poster, but I think you may find that one or more from a particular film really strikes you . . . so, which HP film has the poster(s) you like best? smile.gif

Wow, I never realized that CoS/Snape poster existed, either! Just went to amazon.com and bought it. Gonna stick it up right next to my Snape/Draco PoA poster, in my bedroom. Lovely. And soooooo drool-worthy, as well. drool.gif Thanks, guys! woohoo.gif

Even if PoA didn't feature that lovely Snape/Draco poster, the PoA posters would still be my favorites, though.

Right now its GoF. But you know that will probably change since I haven"t seen HBP and DH yet!

In addition to the regular posters, WB also releases "character posters" which are usually very cool and creative. Here is the one for Harry in HBP --
