I have ADORED Alan Rickman ever since I saw Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves more than a decade ago. The ONLY reason to see this movie is to watch Rickman. He gives a very campy performance and absolutely steals every scene he is in!
I also LOVED him in Sense and Sensibility. He, Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant...oh my goodness, THE WHOLE CAST WAS WONDERFUL. A very special movie.
Having seen him in the four HP movies, I cannot imagine anyone else in this role. I LOVE Rickman so much that I'm certain Snape will turn out to be GOOD not EVIL!

But, I have to say (at the risk of mentioning the h*** word) my first thought was, whats with the hair?? But, looking at the pics some more, he actually looks totally awesome & I guess it's a measure of his acting ability that, even in a still pic, he so is able to look the part.

But he's just so....
I love the pictures from Perfume! He looks HOTTTT in a wig!

I am just a mess on the florr now, someone needs to come mop me up.
Nothing like coming home for a long overnight shift to find lovely Alan Rickman pics awaiting me.

Can someone post some pics from perfume of him without that wig? He looked even better without it.
I'll go and get some pictures from an awfully big adventure for you, and from closet land, but it might take some time because my pc is sort of funny today.

Excellent new pics. I'm watching the trailer for Perfume right now, but my connection is slow so it's taking ages but it's out here in Australia on Jan 11 2007, so i'll be going that day to see it. Love the new pics, thanks guys.

Thanks for adding these awesome pics. I have both these movies, but I watch Sense & Sensibility more often, because Alan Rickman is just awesome in that, in my opinion it's one of his best movies. His acting is fine in TMD but the mustach irritates me & I cant help but wonder
why did they give him that look (plus its not believable how quickly his girlfriend who was devastated at his loss, suddenly tires of him when he does return).
But, for looking & playing the part he never fails, whatever the role.

Thanks for the pics, & thank you for that information
I thought I had missed Snow Cake, it premiered like forever ago, & no one seemed to know when or if it would be on general release. I'm just hoping that my *local* or should I say nearest theater gets this movie, because it only has one screen & so doesnt show all the movies that are on general release.

So now I'm reassured that I didnt miss it already. I definately hope to be able to go see Snow Cake.

Not sure how I've been missing this thread, but I'm glad I found it.
Thanks for the pics from Closet Land. I've seen clips from the movie, but can't find it anywhere to actually see the whole thing.
But I have An Awfully Big Adventure. I really like Alan in that movie, though there is a twist that's disturbing, to say the least. I actually like that one pic of him where he looks a bit scary. It's a funny moment between the two characters as they recognize one another.
I saw Snow Cake last June at the Seattle Int'l Film Festival. I really, really love that movie. I guess it won't be out in the US theaters until Christmas and I am not sure whether it's wide release or limited. At any rate, I will go see it again. Rickman is so wonderful in Snow Cake, as is Sigourney Weaver. And so is Carrie-Anne Moss.

I'm anxious to see Snowcake, too! Alan is so versatile it's scary!

Awesome thanks guys your great and i love the pics.
I really want to see Snowcake too, but i can't find the release date for Australia anywhere, i hate it cause i've been wanting to see this movie for a year and i can't wait until it comes out here which might not be for another year.
Anyone know the release date?
thanks again, and i love the Hamlet pic you posted Mads.
Posted by: Lady M. Oct 26 2006, 09:53 AM
I think there is no date for australia yet, at least that's what I read when I was looking for the german release date two or three month ago...
To anybody who hasn't seen it yet, don't go and watch the trailer on youtube or something, it basically reveals the whole plot, I wish I hadn't seen it.

Speaking as a 35 year old woman, I have to say Mr Rickman is ridiculously attractive. I am however able to distinguish between the man and the character and therefore I don't care if Snape does his best Mr Darcey impression in book/film 7 - I'll still hate him

!
Gotta love Alan in Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves though. I wouldn't have picked Robin if I were Maid Marion!!!

He's oooollllldddd, people - old! But hey - whatever makes you happy.
Nicholas Flamel is old. 60 is older than 16, but old? Age is a question of attitude, both that of the individual in question, and the attitude of the person judging. It's kind of like saying old makes him unworthy or less worthy. So what if he's 60. To begin with he looks *young*, he sounds *young* & he acts (in all meanings of the word) *young*.
And, he can be 60 or 665, he's still one of the finest actors of all time. His age is irrelevant to his ability to act, to perform, to convey his character, to capture the imagination of millions of people. Whether he's 60 or 665 he still looks the way he looks, talks the way he talks ... if he turned round tomorrow and said ...
only kidding guys, I'm really 30, that wouldnt change anything, not his appearance or ability or talent.
He can play any role in any situation and be totally convincing &captivating, whether as the good guy (Sense & Sensibility for example), the bad guy (Die Hard) or the sarcastic guy (Galaxy Quest). There are a thousand adjectives that could be used to describe Alan Rickman, gifted, talented, legendary, awesome ... but *old* would not be one that would have sprung to my mind.
Just my two knuts...

I watched galaxy quest today... not quite sure about it. I loved alan being that saccastic british alien, but tim allen really spoiled everything, I just don't like that guy... anyway, pics from the dvd extra (without that thing on his head) coming tomorrow.
The best part of the movie was when he had to say these stupid lines at the store opening again, this is probably how he feels about ensnaring the senses by now.
And concerning the age question, awesome post moose_starr!

I love Galaxy Quest. Tim Allen is okay but it's too bad that he's the *star* because in my opinion he so is not. Alan Rickman is way better, not only with the attitude thing, but the way he says things. It could be an audio book & the visual would still be so clear. You can almost feel his character's emotions just by the way the words are said. Like, when he's doing the depressed/ bored thing, & not wanting to say *that line* again, oh boy can you ever sense the emotion. Conveying boredom is not an obvious thing to do yet he does it overwhelmingly without being dull.
I am excited for those pics from the DVD, alas I have GQ on VHS & therefore no bonus stuff at all. But, I do have a picture (yes a genuine photograph) of AR with that *thing on his head* lol.

I do not know & I am beginning to worry. I've heard (maybe in this thread?) that it's not on general release until December, but that seems a mighty long time from when it premiered. I was convinced it would be on at my theater this month but I emailed them & they're showing Perfume but not Snow Cake, as the only movie starring AR, & as much as I admire him, I think that movie's going to be way too gruesome to watch. I might buy it when it's out on DVD &watch it with my eyes shut. But, I have no idea what's happened to Snow Cake, & I sure would be sad to miss this one.

Thanks you guys for the news pics, they're just awesome.
I watched Galaxy Quest again last night, but alas, I have it on VHS so no extra bits on it. But, I just love that movie & although Tim Allen is billed as the star, in my opinion ARs performance way outshines TAs. I'm not dissing TA, he's alright (I read his book (biography) & he's cool) but, AR totally out-performed Tim Allen here in my opinion. Even with *that thing on his head* Alan Rickman just exudes brilliance.

Thanks for the new pics. Those are excellent for drooling....
I agree with you Moose_Starr, i happen to prefer Alan to Tim in Galaxy Quest, he's just more convincing. Although Tim's cool in those Santa Clause movies.
I like your new Alan thing in your sig Moose_Starr, really cute.

No contest there ...

That made me laugh.
I lurve Snape, but heck, I love all ARs characters.

To be that book in his hands...
Ok, I will totally admit to renting Galaxy Quest purely because AR was in it. Just like I rented Die Hard a few weks ago. AR stole that movie.

It would be totally off-topic if I discuss my avatar, so alas I cant mention that in fact it was Aislinn whose tekkie genius skills created that animation, & it was nothing to do with my computer savvy (or lack thereof).
So now I might have to watch Love Actually tonight, which I was trying to avoid doing because the DVD now has a skip in it & also I watch it way too much. But, it is a great movie & ARs performance is outstanding considering he is portraying a *shallow* character, yet he manages to bring so much depth to that character.

Totally, considering the role that he was playing, he made his character seem really deep & complex, as though there was a whole back story that we didnt get to see. Yet in fact his character was *spineless* and if it hadnt been for fantastic acting, it could have been just a two-dimensional uninteresting character. Yeah his character was a cheat but, (as I never tire of pointing out lol) it was AR that wrote the 'classic fool' line by way of an apology to his cheated-on wife, & insisted the line be included (which it is) if he was going to take the role.

In my opinion, yes it's a fantantastic movie, & light & fluffy in places, but there are some things that really get me choked up in there. It does have its serious moments. But, still awesome all the same.

Apparently one of Mr. Rickman's roles reminds Val_Halla of another classic character... this is her masterpiece!

(So are you saying that, like Mr Scrooge, Professor Snape has seen the error of his ways with all due atonement & has been redeemed?)
Moving rapidly back on-topic, I watched Love Actually again last night (the skip on the DVD is getting worse, it now skips a whole section of dialog, thankful not Alan Rickman's) and he really is awesome in that movie. Just with his facial expressions he speaks volumes.
Then I watched Robin Hood, the one with Kevin Costner. At the risk of sounding repetitive, if it wasnt for AR, that movie would suck in my opinion (no offense intended to Costner fans). Costner is supposed to be playing the role of an English nobleman. He is supposed to be an actor. Maybe at least attempting an accent would be good? (I also watched Timeline, Thewlis is awesome despite his brief appearance, & he does at least attempt an accent, although to me he still sounds just like Lupin, he speaks in the same way ... which is cool). Costner portrays Robin Hood as a very two-dimensional hero, that spends most of his time posing atop fallen treees. AR as the Sherriff of Nottingham brings everything to the movie. His acting is awesome, every scene with him in is just great, he brings so much personality & depth. Like, Robin Hood (the movie) is always described as *starring Kevin Costner*. The way I see it, it stars Alan Rickman & features Kevin Costner.
I like how, on Love Actually, at the beginning when the actors names are listed, Alan Rickman's name is first. I dont know why because it's not in order of appearance or alphabetical order, so maybe they just figured he's the best actor in the movie & listed him first.
Posted by: malcolm1980 Dec 3 2006, 04:50 AM
Alan Rickman mentioned in an interview he's going to be in Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp and directed by Tim Burton and he'll be singing (it's a musical).
Posted by: Moose_Starr Dec 3 2006, 12:03 PM
Wow I missed that interview. Somehow I just can not imagine Alan Rickman singing
Anyhows, I watched Love Actually again last night & paid special attention to the opening credits, & I finally figured out that the actors are listed by the first letter of their name, and that's why Alan Rickman's name appears first.

I'll just sit here and wait

The deleted scenes are awesome and contain just so many cool extra things. It's too bad that Richard Curtis felt that he had to cut so much out. At least he added it back in in the Deleted Scenes feature. I also love the Story Tellers bonus thing, too (despite the fact that the interview with Alan Rickman is way too short)

He does? I have Truly Madly Deeply & I dont remember him singing, but he does play a musical instrument in the movie. TMD is a good movie apart from two things, the mustach (whywhywhy?) & the way his wife / girlfriend whatever she is, reacts when he returns. Like, I wont spoil the movie too much as you havent seen it, but she is distraut about his premature & sudden death, to the point where her life has no meaning kind of thing, she's totally devastated. Then, he returns as a ghost, which for most anyone would be the most awesome thing (aside from the slight inconvenience of him being dead, and bringing all his dead buddies round to watch old movies) but she almost immediately goes & falls in love with some other guy, which in my opinion is totally unrealistic. Like, to be in love to the extent that she was, & then to suddenly switch emotions ... I just dont buy it. Maybe in time her feelings would change but not that quickly.
ARs performance in the movie is pure genius of course, but I dont watch it too often because the storyline just irritates me & the mustache is *tries to find the word* well, whywhywhy! I know in Robin Hood AR has facial hair but somehow that looks fine with the character, but the mustache in TMD is simply ... actually, I dont think a word has been invented for this purpose, which is why I can not think of a word to describe that mustache.

Ooh I'll have to go check out the new studio pics. I love the studio pics that were already in Galleries, in many ways they give a whole new perspective, maybe because he's *posing* or standing still. Especially the Snape studio pics, they are so dramatic.

When possible I try to watch a movie in its original language, because so much is lost in dubbing, not only the performance, but translations just are not the same. It can be a little distracting to have to read subtitles all through a movie, but I prefer that to having a dubbed movie. But, sometimes it's just not possible to find it in its original language.

Dubbing is evil! That said, some places that I have visited (*cough*Italy*cough*) seem to only do dubbing. My kids watched Scooby-Doo in Italian-very trippy experience.

Oh my gosh, that's awesome
Thank you Gallery persons.
I didnt see Perfume so this is a great opportunity to at least see the pics from it. Did any you guys see Perfume & if so do you think it's *too* gory? Apparently it is very violent, which is why I avoided seeing it despite it starring Alan Rickman. (I was not impressed, because, that was being shown in theaters but Snow Cake wasnt).
Posted by: Lady M. Mar 15 2007, 02:04 PM
no, it's not that violent I think. it's meant to be somewhat ...overacted in an ironic way, that is what the book is like, and alan totally gets that in his big last scene. it's awesome. my friend (who is not as obsessed as I am) even screamed when Alan appeared on screen for the first time, which was a little embarassing.

I went and saw it wityh a group of friends- big mistake.
I'm very girly and so it was most definately too gory for me. Some scenes really pushed me to the limit!
I actually didn't register that this was Perfume with Alan until he came on. A friend pinched me and said 'That's Snape!'
He was excellent. I don't know whether I'd reccomend the movie but I can say that Alan was really good.
Posted by: Moose_Starr Mar 24 2007, 11:02 AM
Thanks for the reply Mads
So I might just have to buy Perfume on DVD. It would seem too strange to not buy a movie with Alan Rickman in. The good thing about watching a DVD at home is, I can close my eyes at the gory scenes. I guess if I can bear to watch Die Hard, I can watch Perfume (or is Perfume worse?) Die Hard totally sucks, the only redeeming & saving grace is Alan's performance, there's little else to recommend it yet just one character makes it a totally watchable movie. The Gallery pics of Perfume do look mighty awesome so I think I'll have to succumb & buy it.
Going back to the Snow Cake discussion, or more specifically the cover pic from the DVD, I still havent figured out where they got that pic from. I dont think it's actually from the movie so it must be a studio pic, in which case it's so weird, because not only is it a lousy picture but it has little relevance with the tone of the movie. Like why choose such a strange looking pic to put on a DVD cover? There are so many stunning pics of AR in Snow Cake, I dont know why they couldnt have used one of those... Whatever. Alan totally rocks

I wish they'd finally give the release date for nobel son... here's a picture of our "professor", anyway.

Have you heared that the filming of sweeney todd has been delayed? I've read something like that I think..
Posted by: Moose_Starr Mar 24 2007, 12:07 PM
There dont seem to be any release dates for Nobel Son but I found the website (nobelson.net) (I didnt know there was one until now) & this is the only information they give about dates:
QUOTE
Production Notes/Status:
Status:
Post-production
Comments:
Wrapped principal November 18, 2005
Status Updated:
17 November 2006
Note:
Since this project is categorized as being in production, the data is subject to change; some data could be removed completely.
And, on imdb there's a http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000614/

about Alan Rickman & the only information there about Sweeney Todd is
Sweeney Todd (2007) (filming).

The German DVD cover for http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/gallery/album/2139 has a smiling, and much less "mad" appearing Alan Rickman.

I still have yet to see
Snowcake--but I hope Alan has more screentime than in
Perfume--which was minimal, albeit memorable.

Oh, he definitely has a lot more screentime in
Snowcake! His yumminess is practically evenly spread througout the entire movie
That movie is soooooo worth watching! Alan's performance is simply breath-taking (as usual) and the story itself is simply fantabulous (sometimes you are at the verge of crying and then the next instant you are laughing like a maniac).
So yeah,
Snowcake is definitely one of Alan's greater movies!

It's a way nicer pic than on the other DVD.
I didnt see Perfume, but in Snow Cake, Alan has plenty screen time. It's one of my favorite movies already & in my opinion one of Alan's finest performances.
Right now it seems it's only available as a Region 2 DVD but some DVD players will play other region DVDs but not the bonus features or interactive things.

I saw those new photos a while ago on HPFZ. And I've heard whispers that Snowcake might be coming out here (Australia) very soon so I'm holding my breath and I'm really happy.

Maybe Snowcake will be released globally? I still dont understand why it's on such limited release, it's an all-star cast, a Canadian production, so it's a great mystery as to why Alan Rickman is being confined to DVD region-2. This is such a great movie, until Snowcake I watched Love Actually so much that Inow know every line & every scene & with my eyes shut I know what's happening from what the sound track's doing lol. Alan is awesome in Love Actually. But, Snowcake is even better & I'm not sure there's a word been invented to describe better-than-awesome, because his performance in Snow Cake & the movie itself is truly better than awesome.
Posted by: PotterPhreak Apr 6 2007, 06:44 PM
Lol, man I thought I was bad with Love Actually. I've read the screenplay several times as well as watch the movie so many times by dvd plays up all the time now. I can quote most of it too.
I've hear April 25th 2007 most for the release of Snowcake here so I'm crossing my fingers it's true, but limited release so who knows where I'll have to go to see it.

Totally. There are lots of new pics coming out from OoTP but none of Snape. We *need* to see Alan in a new pic where he does not look as though he's been assimilated by the Borg. I'm sure the green glow works perfectly fine for that scene in a moving picture but we urgently require a good pic of Snape where he's not green.

If you're in DVD region-2 you should be able to get Snowcake

And, as PotterPhreak said, it's going to Australia soon. But, if you have a multi-regional DVD player then it's fine anyhows. I know that I keep repeating myself but Snowcake truly is an awesome movie & Alan Rickman is greater-than-awesome in it. In my opinion it's definitely one of his finest performances, & seeing as how all his performances are spectacular, it's not easy to rate one higher than another, but this movie really is something else.

I know this is semi-off topic. But I have DVD player that also writes DVDs and it can play DVDs that I purchased in Europe (Italy). The DVD player on my computer also plays region 2 DVDs. (I'm thinking the computer cabability required to write a DVD may be the reason the DVD player can read other systems.) So if anyone has those kinds of players you might be able to get a region 2 DVD to play, but it's sort of
at your own risk. (The ones I purchased in Italy were kids programs that didn't cost much, we just wanted to see if we could play them and they worked but it was a gamble.)

Rickman Alert! As noted on http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/#article:9760 Alan is slated to be interviewed on US television, the NBC Weekend Today Show, Saturday, April 28th. He will appear with Snowcake co-star Sigourney Weaver promoting the film.
In honour of this, another Snowcake screencap is in order, I think--

i've seen alot of previews for snowcake and it really looks good.. it was just a bit wierd to see alan start histerically crying, AND do a sex scene... i love alan to death but the crying made me sort of uncomfortable for some reason and the sex made me turn red, cover my eyes, and start squeeling and giggeling.. lol
and i wish i could have those images in like GIANT size... they'd look great on a t-shirt

I like Rickman, but not enough to drool. LOL I can not imagine any OTHER actor in this role. He's very good at roles that require pomposity-he was hysterical as the character actor in Galaxy Quest. Then he was dispicable as the bad guy in Die Hard. He has a ton of range as an actor and I enjoy watching what ever he is in.

Oohhh, an Alan Rickman thread!!
I'm a huge Rickmaniac....I own 25 of his movies on DVD....it's kind of obsessive, huh?
Eh, what's a girl to do, the man is a GOD.
Some of my favorite Alan films are: Sense and sensibility (ahhhh, Colonel Brandon, the love of my life!), Snow Cake (He is REALLY brilliant in it!), Love Actually (sexy boss..), Rasputin (omg, Alan's best preformanse ever!!), Dogma (the voice of GOD, folks...squee!), Robin Hood (gawd, sexy...), The Barchester chronicles (BBC mini series, Alan as the slippery slimy Obediah Slope...yum), Mesmer (ahhh, the hair and the costume...) Closet Land (sexy and cruel interrigator), Galaxy Quest (even hot in alien costume)
I know I'm new here, but can I join the Alan asylum?

I've found the thread I'm spending the rest of my life in...
EDIT - Found this in someones sig on another site and thought it pretty much summed him up
"Alan Rickman is a man who gets hotter as he ages. By the time it's his time to go, they won't have to cremate him. He will spontaneously combust!"

Alan Rickman....the reason I became a Potterhead in the first place. To think, if his performance in the first movie hadn't gotten me so interested in the character of Snape, I might never have read the books! Alan is...well, he's one of my favorite actors ever. He's attractive/sexy/uber-talented and all that excellent stuff...and yes, he plays Severus as NO ONE else could play him. Marvelous in every way.

I totally agree with you. I have so much respect for Alan Rickman as an actor, not just cause of his portrayal of Snape(which is amazing in its own right), but because of his career as a whole. I have also recently gained even more respect for him, being that he came from a Graphic Design background, which is my chosen profession. I also agree that to me no one else could ever play Snape and give him the justice that Rickman has. Besides the movies that have been named in this thread, I think one of his funniest roles was as Marvin the robot. He was also quite funny in King of the Hill as the "King" guy in the medieval/jousting episode. I would say though that my favorite non-HP movie of his was Die Hard. BRAVO RICKMAN!
Posted by: Lady M. Aug 3 2007, 10:27 AM
I get soo excited when I see all those movies in-production on his imdb page. Sweeney Todd is going to be awesome, I can totally see me and my best friend going to see that movie with all the girls giggling when Johnny Depp is on screen and only the two of us squeeing for Alan. Not that I don't like Johnny, he's my 2nd favourite actor, but i'm sure Alan will steal all the scenes again. Then there's Villa Golitsyn, which sounds cool, Nobel Son yet to come to theatres and this mysterious We're here to help". Has anybody ever heared of that? what is it?
Posted by: RosieW Aug 3 2007, 11:07 AM
Is there a single film in which Alan Rickman is not just perrrfect? I watched Love Actually last night, and Galaxy Quest this afternoon - two very different movies, but as always, he's wonderful. I feel another viewing of Sense and Sensibility is in order for this evening. Captain Brandon. Dear Jane Austen could have written the role for him, give or take a couple of hundred years or so.

Here is a cute clip of Alan Rickman discussing what he would like to see in the next Harry Potter at a showing of POA-
He says, "He might get married to somebody beautiful and live happily ever after and stop wearing black."
To see the clip, scroll down on the left side to "POA Premiere in New York". He is talking to a lady with a microphone.

There is also one on the same page where he is asked about the many fans who like the Snape character. It is the "HP-PoA New York

Huh. So that explains why I couldnt find it at Amazon. However, I have bought Perfume on DVD but despite Alan looking his usual awesome self on the cover, I havent found the courage to watch it yet because having seen the other pics & read the stuff on the back cover I was totally creeped out. Maybe I'll switch the DVD with Happy Feet and trick myself into watching it that way.
Snow Cake is totally awesome & I've seen it so many times & it was totally worth the vast expense & detective work necessary in order to find it, & I have a multi-regional DVD player so that's cool although with some DVDs it wont play bonus features or the bonus disc. But, Alan Rickman is just so awesome in Snow Cake. Like the movie itself is one of the best movies ever of all time, & Alan's performance in Snow Cake is beyond awesome.

If anyone is looking for The Search For John Gissing you can only buy it at Freebird. It's such a good movie. It might be my favorite of his...well, maybe after Snow Cake.
I don't blame you. I was forced to see it with a friend and it was SO creepy! Honestly if you hate freaky movies but love Alan I just recommend watching Love Actually again. Perfume completely freaked me out. I mean Alan was great … but the rest of the movie was really freaky.
But the Sweeney Todd trailer it looks OMG awesome. Aside from the Johnny factor and the HBC factor we have the ALLAN factor and he looks fantastic! I'm really excited about it.
Posted by: Moose_Starr Nov 19 2007, 12:36 PM
So I still havent watched Perfume. I bought it ages ago, because of Alan Rickman and the awesome pics of him in the movie. Despite it being a violent movie and the fact that I dont like violent movies, I still bought it. I watch Die Hard just to see Alan because he's the only thing that makes Die Hard watchable or have any point at all (in my opinion).
But, I just can not bring myself to watch Perfume, and I have the two-disc edition. Maybe I should watch the bonus disc first, with all the making-of and interviews and whatever else is on there, to lessen the erm shock of seeing it *for real*.
The sad thing is, the pics of Alan look so awesome but still I just cant make myself watch the movie.
Posted by: Madsdagirl Nov 19 2007, 01:53 PM
Well Moose, I've said this quite a few times and I'll say it again. It's pretty freaky.
Personally I hated Perfume. Alan was good but that doesn't mean that the movie wasn't really really weird. I mean if you like fish guts, mouldy rats and movies that only get worse from there in by all means Perfume is the movie for you.
Personally I just recommend waiting for Sweeney and settling down on the couch to watch Sense and Sensibility in the mean time.
Posted by: pranko Nov 19 2007, 02:04 PM
I thought Perfume was ok. There were parts I didn't like, because I'm a huge fan of felines ok. You could say that if I was religious, I'd be a CATholic, Hi Fi! -has been brooding on that one quite a while-
Erm anyway.
The ending was weird and dissapointing, but I guess it was meant to be a bit surreal.
Anyway Alan was ok in it. Not that his part was that interesting, but he made it so just because he played it, naturally.
Go Alan!
Posted by: JoRowlingRocks Nov 19 2007, 02:19 PM
I haven't seen the ending of Perfume yet, I think we got quite near to the end though. I remember something like the murderer was going to be hung but then he got off? [This could be my imagination though].
I really want to watch Dark Harbour [mainly because of the slash scene, yes]!
Anyway. Alan Rickman is generally amazing. I think I really did almost melt when I heard his voice... in person or whatever. Yummmm
Posted by: hagridlurveshappyhour Nov 19 2007, 03:24 PM
I cannot wait for his more central role in HBP. its about time POTTER actor number one came to the fore!
Posted by: Moose_Starr Nov 21 2007, 12:18 PM
lol I dont think that I'm going to like Perfume, but I dont like Die Hard and I watch that just to see Alan Rickman. And I watch ... *doh* I cant even think of the title, the movie about the Sheriff of Nottingham where Alan definitely is the only reason worth watching the movie, he makes his character just so awesome and has the coolest lines while Kevin Costner doesnt even attempt a British accent, probably because he's too busy looking for fallen trees to stand on and strike a pose.
I tried to buy Dark Harbor online but apparently there were no copies in stock
I so would love to see that movie
And I agree with Mads that Sense And Sensibility is the perfect *waiting* movie, like to watch that over and over (interspersed with Snow Cake and Galaxy Quest) while waiting for Sweeney.
Posted by: Overcast Nov 21 2007, 01:00 PM
I prefer Snow Cake to Sense & Sensibility. Marianne is just too whiny in it for me. Plus, there's not enough Alan.
Dark Harbor was sold out? You might want to try Ebay. That's where I got mine. My friend uses it all the time and has good ratings and knows who not to buy from.
I liked Perfume, but then again, I do like horror/creepy movies. It wasn't slasher-esque, just too creepy for most tastes, I guess.

Interestingly enough I think it was exactly a year ago I saw
Perfume in the theatre--and it
is disturbing and difficult to watch. If I had been watching the DVD then I could have skipped over the more gruesome scenes. I don't regret seeing it, however, and not the least for being able to see AR in another fantastic wig role.

My only recommendation if you can't take the ickky stuff is to go to the TLC Galleries and just look at the http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/album/1725 instead. Kinda like perfume without the smell, y'know?

The other day I had a Lockhart moment and just couldnt find this thread, and I visited the Galleries instead, and spent a long whiles admiring the Alan pics. I was looking at the screencaps from Perfume and it did occur to me to just sit there and pretend I was watching the movie, but in very slow motion
Posted by: Moose_Starr Nov 27 2007, 12:47 PM
So last night I finally watched Perfume, & will not be watching it ever again, so I will be taking the opportunity to visit the Leaky Galleries to see the pics of Alan who was just awesome. I only watched one feature from the bonus disc, because I hoped there would be an Alan interview, which there was.
I dont like Die Hard but, I do watch it occasionally simply because Alan is just so awesome in that movie (I quit watching after he dies, same with Robin Hood, because in my opinion he's the only reason for watching, & the only thing that makes those movies watchable)
Even Alan's acting could not persuade me to watch Perfume again, it isnt even too gross in the sense of Die Hard which is what I call stoopid violence, like it's so OTT that it's just dumb. But, this was just beyond words nauseating because Grenouille (frog, gee that's an original name) murders countless women and is called an angel. Not my kind of thinking.
Anyhoo Alan was awesome, Dustin Hoffman just didnt look right in that costume but Alan does. And when he's talking to Grenouille he doesnt shout or scream or cuss like other actors do to express anger, it's like he gets all the rage of the world and puts it into his voice, and just talks very softly but with immense menace.
Maybe someday someone will make the abridged version with just the Alan scenes.

oooh, i just can't wait to see Sweeney Todd. I'll get the chance to see our beloved Alan Rickman again on the big screen..Not all his movies are being shown here in Asia though. Wish i can watch him on stage too.

(Just LOVE a man in a skirt!)

And I am seriously counting the days 'til SWEENY TODD opens--although AR plays such a despicable character . . .

Oh my gosh Alan is so awesome. Who else could dress like that and pose like that and actually look awesome?
*must broaden my vocabulary to include adjectives other than awesome*
Erm, so as to not totally spam this thread, I found a new Alan pic from Galaxy Quest & I dont recall seeing it in Galleries, altho that doesnt necessarily mean it's not there, just that I have a two-second memory.

Alan is just awesome because he plays such a diverse range of roles, yet plays them all convincingly. He can be the bad guy like in Die Hard or Robin Hood, or the sweet guy like in Snow Cake or Sense And Sensibilty, or the funny guy like in Galaxy Quest.

What we Alan Rickman fans have known all along, has now been put into print! As noted on http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/12/6/empire-names-rickman-oldman-watson-and-radcliffe-among-100-sexiest-movie-stars Empire Magazine has named Alan (and 3 other Potter stars) amongst the "100 Sexiest Movie Stars!"

Totally. Alan has not only an exterior sexiness but, he's beautiful on the inside, too so *yay* that he made the list & got recognized for his looks as well as his acting ability.
Like I know in other votes / polls Alan's oftentimes been passed over for some young up-coming *sexy new superstar* that I've never even seen before & looks as tho he slept in his clothes for a week.
So yeah I am totally happy that Alan made the list

This is totally true and personally I wont argue with you one bit there lol, my million-and-one posts about Alan extol his many virtues.
But, it is refreshing to see him included in the list of sexiest people (even though personally I believe that there's way more to a person than superficial appearance) because it gets kind of irritating to read or hear comments about Alan being *so old*. Already he's not *old* and anyhows if most of us look half as good as he does at his age it would be cause for celebration (heck if we looked that good at any age lol it would be awesome)

I was in a video store today looking at all the Scrooge movies and I thought that Alan Rickman would play a good Ebeneezer. Many wonderful British actors have portrayed him and my favorite is Michael Caine in the Muppet version.
What do you think?

Thanks for the link! I'm excited about Sweeney Todd too, all the reviews are wonderful and I expect to see some awards given out for the actors in this film. I read an interview by Johnny Depp saying he thinks he scared AR when he held a razor to his throat to shave him. In another interview AR said it was a bit difficult to sing during the shaving scene without getting shaving foam in his mouth.

Anyhoo, you have a great name snowcake. That's one of my favorite Alan movies. In fact all of his movies are my favorite lol, except Perfume. I still havent recovered from watching that, and am considering digging a very deep hole in my back yard in which to hide it. Alan's performance in Perfume was awesome, he was totally convincing and believable in his role but, despite that I'll never watch the movie again lol. But, to me it's just further evidence of what a versatile actor AR is because, he didnt look at all out of place in that wig yet some of the other actors looked almost comical.

Dogma is an awesome movie. In my opinion I think it's a good movie made great by Alan's role. He just brings so much to his character (in all his movies) that it gives an extra depth to a movie.
He is so versatile an actor that just with his voice and expressions he can express scorn or compassion or rage or admiration or indifference, without having to cuss or shout or use cheesy lines to explain how he's feeling. Add in his awesome acting and of course the awesomeness itself, and he brings whole new dimensions to a character and thus to the movie.

I don't know if this is true or not but someone told me that Alan Rickman was picked to play Hannibal Lecter if Anthony Hopkins had turned down the role. Has anyone else heard this? At first I couldn't see him in the part but, the more I think about it, I can. I keep imagining him in the different scenes and I think he would be a great Dr. Lecter. Of course I think he would be great in almost anything...and he would.

Yeah me three. Like, some people say *but he's so old* or *but he's so fat* and while we can not all like the same things (thankfully, or it would be a dull world lol) personally I can not see where the *fat* applies to Alan, an age is only a state of mind. If I look half that good at half his age, I'll be happy
That pic from the Sweeney Todd premiere is just awesome. I havent seen the movie yet but I sure hope to sometime soon

I don't think I've ever noticed Alan's weight except to think that he looks very trim for his age. I don't think he really works out but he always makes a good appearance.
Posted by: branswilliamrochester Jan 17 2008, 09:10 AM
I cannot BELIEVE I did not find this thread until now. I CANNOT believe this.
Alan Rickman. Where to start. It's great to be able to meet fellow AR fans.
My friends all think I'm mental for practically swooning over a 62 year old man. I still think they should go get a check up because I do not see ANYTHING that is not worth liking. Seriously. His acting is brilliant. His voice is gorgeous. And...need I go on?!
As for his weight: I NEVER thought that he was fat, or even overweight. He's very strongly built, and I like that. He wouldn't look half as good without his current stature; but I'd love him anyway.
He's the epitome of "age is a mere number." He looks absolutely gorgeous, and he wears his age proudly. I think that's what I admire most: he isn't ashamed of being old and wears every wrinkle with dignity. You've got to give it to that man. He's brilliant.
I wasn't able to watch Sweeney Todd in theaters because I'm underage and my parents forbade me to see the most brilliant movie of 2007. Sucks. BUT I did watch like two thirds of it on Youtube and cherished any moment. For those who watched the movie: Could I earn a role as one of the books Judge Turpin runs his fingers across in the "You GANDERED at my ward" scene?!?
PS: I plan to watch Closet Land because it was suggested to me, but I heard it was a bit disturbing. Brilliant work, but disturbing. Any comments or suggestions? For your info, I'm fourteen, but I think I'm mentally a bit older, if not quite. Even my own mother says I'm mentally older than her. 0_0 Not sure what that's supposed to mean. Anyway, main point is, I'm not worried about anything other than: are there any extremely gruesome scenes that'll haunt me or something??
And is there anywhere I can watch Mesmer online? I can't borrow it as it's not available in my country, and I don't dare download it because I doubt my parents would be happy knowing I watch that movie. But I REALLY want to watch it. The acting seems gorgeous, intense, and heart wrenching. Any suggestions?

Actually I've forbidden any of my friends to go see Sweeney until I get back from France, they're all sure it's the Johnny factor (they even sent me a giant Johnny poster!) and I do adore Johnny ... but ALAN.
Have you guys seen the clip of Alan and Johnny singing Pretty Women? OMG. Droolworthy.

I think that no one else could have so perfectly portrayed a role where we never actually see the actor, & only his voice has to express how the robot is feeling.

The amazing Alan Rickman was recently spotted at the http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2008/1/25/new-photos-interview-with-alan-rickman-at-sundance-film-festival in Park City, Utah --

Looking fine, as usual!

Check out all the new Alan-ness http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/album/3779 in the TLC Galleries.

Nice photo of Alan! It's funny, but I always get a bit uneasy when I see him smile.
I saw something in the news the other day and it really irked me. The part about not wanting to be on a lunch box just seems like sour grapes to me:
British tough guy Tim Roth refuses to regret not grabbing a lead role in the HARRY POTTER movie franchise - because countryman ALAN RICKMAN is the perfect PROFESSOR SEVERUS SNAPE. Roth was offered the dark role before Rickman but turned it down because he thought the character was "under-developed". The Reservoir Dogs star reveals, "There were only a couple of Harry Potter books out at that point, and Snape seemed under-developed. "I've watched the films, and Alan Rickman does a good job. If you pass on a project and it turns out well, then it was probably the right thing to do, but, at that point, I didn't really want to be on a lunch box."

Thanks
Alexis !! Here it is. I thought it was cute.
Hmmm, does the artist look like Karkaroff to you or is it just me?
LOL!! He DOES look a bit like Karkaroff!! This pic made me grin like a maniac, and, unfortunately, me being in public now, I'm getting quite a few weird glances. Is it just me, or does Alan look like he's a bit...forcing his smile?
QUOTE(Madsdagirl @ Jan 18 2008, 01:19 AM)

I know! And he seems so NICE. Even when he's being all horrible in
Love Actually he's still Alan and he still seems nice in the end. Me? Sad? Noooo.
And, Moose,
Alan, fat? Never! And even if he was his voice would still be dark chocolate!
*I am a very, very sad person

I am SO glad someone pointed out Pretty Women. I watched it ten times in a row because I couldn't get enough of the two singing- they were sensational. I mean, I had nearly passed out when Alan used his gorgeous voice to sing in Truly,Madly,Deeply..but in Sweeney Todd, his singing partner wasn't dancing around drunk...it was great. Totally droolworthy...Just THINKING of it makes me drool all over again.
Thank you so much
Hagiographer13 for posting that wonderful picture of Alan at the Sundance Film Festival! Looking swell as ever! Am I the youngest here?! *shirks* Ok, so one of my friends happened to look over my shoulder and see that wonderful picture of Alan and just said- "Who the hell is THAT?!" You can imagine the hour long lecture she got from me for saying that...

It was on behalf of all the Alan Rickman fans out there, most especially the ones on this thread!

I may just be taking the defensive too much, but I was seriously irked by this article. Isn't he slighting Alan here, in an indirect way via Snape's character? Huh. Thanks for sharing the story with us though!

Yes, branswilliamrochester, I think Tim Roth is slighting AR too. I call it "sour grapes" because he made a poor decision in passing up the part. I'm thrilled he did though and AR was JKR's first choice.

I didn't know that!! Well, Alan does do a wonderful role of Snape. Whether he is in character or not or whether his appearances follow canon, I believe, is discussed in another thread.
That man is truly brilliant. Wow. I had a science test today, so I was up at 2 AM trying to study last night, but I decided to take a break and go on google. That was one of the worst decisions of my life! I launched into another Alan Rickman obsessive phase and I couldn't help looking him up all over the net for over an hour! Am I the only one who gets these spasms of obsession randomly, every so often? They're seriously addicting-worse than narcotics...
What should I call this: the Alan Rickman Syndrome, ARS for short? As in ARS number when you have an urgent call to make? LOL. Makes sense.

I do the same thing! Maybe it is a syndrome! I look up one thing and I'm on for hours reading interviews and looking at photos.
I can understand why Tim Roth was asked to play the part, he does look kind of "greasey/sinister" but Alan Rickman is a perfect fit and JKR obviously knew it.

I think it is
Alysaw! I do the exact same thing: just one picture, one quote, and I'm onto it...for hours an end with no idea that so much time passed. ARS for sure.

As for Alan being perfect at Snape: it's not just his acting career as a brilliant villain (but I loved him best as the romantic Colonel Brandon and/or Dr. Mesmer), but his voice, facial expression (the eyebrows!!), and his brilliant acting fits right in. I guess I too understand that Tim Roth could fit the appearance better according to canon, but Alan is beautiful at acting Snape, so no complaints here! Is it just me, or does he steal every single movie he's in? He's only in the HP movies for at most a total of 5 minutes or so, but the only scenes I remember are his- the Occlumency scene in OotP for one when he walks up behind Harry in the Mirror of Erised memory...Or is that only because I watch the AR scenes twenty times on end?!
Posted by: Alysaw Jan 31 2008, 08:34 AM
branswilliamrochester, Alan Rickman is known as a "scene stealer". I read that Keven Costner had quite a few AR scenes cut from "Robin Hood" because AR was so great. When people talk about that movie the scene they remember most is AR standing on a table threatening to cut someone's heart out with a spoon.
Posted by: branswilliamrochester Feb 1 2008, 08:29 AM
Definately Alysaw. AR is THE scene stealer...LOL- I remember that scene vividly. "Because it's DULL you idiot." I still have to say that this is my fav quote from Robin Prince of Thieves:
"Wait a minute. Robin Hood steals money from my pocket, forcing me to hurt the public, and they love him for it? That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas." !! AR truly got some of the best lines in that movie. It's a shame they had to cut some AR scenes...tsk...they do that a lot with poor Alan, don't they? He works his head off acting and they end up taking out his scenes because he's just too "good." Maybe he should start cutting down on his brilliant acting so we can see him more.
What was your personal fav AR role?

It's so hard for me to decide what my favorite role is. I always change my mind when I see something else. He was so good in Robin Prince of Thieves but then there's Die Hard and Snow Cake...

See what I mean? I could go on and on. What I do know for sure though, is that this is my favorite review quote and really sums AR up:
"he may not be on screen long - but he owns every minute and he is capable of turning a simple retort into a mini symphony of contempt."

I know what you mean. I mean, I was really into Mesmer for a while, then I saw him in Die Hard and totally keeled over. Then I saw Snowcake and started worshipping him on screen (trust me, my mom walked in on that one...awkward situation). He's such a brilliant actor that he plays all his varying roles so brilliantly. I loved Snowcake, I really did, but I think I was initially taken with him in Sense and Sensibility...then Mesmer...then Die Hard...Oh gosh, forget it, I love them all. Call me obsessed, but even my cell phone wallpaper is a picture of him in Les Liaison Dangereuses...A girl can dream, eh? My friends totally tune me out now, because I relate EVERYTHING to AR- even a simple science lesson on sulfur. Right. Don't ask about that one....

I think you'll love him in Sweeney Todd. He does a play a good villian, doesn't he? I don't think he likes being type-cast as one though. I've seen a few interviews where he complains about being regarded as a "bad guy" and then lists all of his "good guy" roles. He's wonderfully versatile but I have to admit, no one does evil like Alan!

Yeah.....The thing is even though he's done only a few baddies roles , it has made very deep impact on people....I remember an interview where he said he loved doing baddie-roles and it's been a long time since he did one....
Posted by: branswilliamrochester Feb 6 2008, 09:12 PM
Yes, I too remember Alan complaining in a couple of interviews of being remembered only as the bad guy when he was in so many other films. I mean, I think he's brilliant in what ever he does, and the only reason why we may remember him better as villains is because in movies, the good guys are at the beginning and at the end- the villians throughout the entire film. It's just so much more impressive to see his wonderful acting for such a long period, we remember it more.
Sweeney Todd's Pretty Women had me floored as well....and the "you gandered at my ward" part! LOL. It reminded me of his "loss of a limb will not excuse you" in PoA to Harry!

I loved him in Dogma and Snowcake especially! Ohh, Snowcake, he gets to be all through the movie instead of just here and there. I liked that. I liked that a lot. Best sex scene I've ever seen too.... *hem, hem*
I have to agree with the person who said she gets on an Alan Rickman obsessiveness kick. That happens to me too. My friends just smile and nod... yeah yeah, we know, you love Alan Rickman, let us know when something new happens mkay?

About what that Roth guy said about Alan being on a lunch box, to me that smacks of the worst petty jealous ridiculous kind of comment ever. Like, if AR had only done the HP movies, & only ever played the role of Snape, maybe just maybe that comment could be excused. But, seeing as how AR has been in so many roles on stage and screen, that just makes Roth look dumb. And so what if AR is on a lunch box? What a lucky sandwich, is all I can say about that.
AR in Robin Hood is the only thing that makes Robin Hood watchable. He just steals every scene, and the way he says the things he does is just awesome. I usually refer to the movie as The Sheriff of Nottingham
Like what's with Costner constantly jumping on to fallen trees anyhows?
I still havent seen Sweeney Todd but I saw a review of it on television with lots of clips and interviews and I really want to see it (it's kind of weird how it stars like half the HP cast though)

I think Roth made an arse of himself when he said that. I got angry as soon as I read it. I bet he's kicking himself in the arse for making such a bad decision. AR was JKR's first choice anyway and Snape is her character and she knew best.
I watched "Sheriff of Nottingham" the other night and was bored except for when AR was on screen. I just love the expressions on his face when they're trying to break the door down. All I thought about during the death scene was how he would look when he does the death scene in DH. Well, I guess he won't drool as much.
Watching that movie makes me understand why Costner was so insecure and cut out so many of Alan's scenes. He can be on screen for ten minutes and steal the show.

Alysaw said that she gets these kicks as well, so join the club!! I loved Snowcake as well. I watched it with a friend (who isn't too much of an AR fan...probably because she got sick and tired of my rants) and she freaked out with that scene *cough*. EXACTLY. It's like Harry Potter, a Musical! But seriously, I watched bits and parts of Robin Hood, but I ended up skipping all the scenes except the Sherrif's!
I've gotten to the point that a portion of my brain actually responds to everything anything or anyone says and relates it to an AR quote from a movie, interviews, anything. Like the other day, I was just staring at my cutlery during lunch and you don't know how many quotes I came up with just that little glance....

I was in the bookstore today and they've got a picture documentary type book out about Sweeney Todd! Sadly I will not get to see this movie until it comes out on DVD, but I got the pleasure of looking at lots of luscious pictures (the whole film looks FANTASTIC, it makes me want to see it even more), especially some wonderful eye candy of Alan Rickman. And some commentary from him too, he has interesting stuff to say about all the singing bits.
Need to see this even more. And his newest one about wine which is one of my favorite subjects (I'm not a wine snob, but I do know more than your average person about wine, and do my best to taste as much wine as possible, and read up about it, and it just interests me as well as tastes good. So a movie about wine, with Alan Rickman? That just says win to me...)

The movie is, "Bottle Shock", and so far all the reviews I've read are very good. I saw AR on a TV interview and he talked about his singing. He said it was difficult to sing with shaving foam all over his face. Johnny Depp said AR was probably a nervous wreck singing with him holding a razor to his throat too.

Snape protected Harry from Lupin in the film and it was a great scene. The way JKR wrote it though is much different. Snape was unconscious and levitated through the tunnel and outside via a mobilicorpus spell by Lupin.
Alan looks different because of the black wig and also because he wears very dark contact lenses in his Snape role. I read something by Michael Gambon who said they were on the set and he was looking at AR and said he never realized how dark, almost black his eyes were. Alan popped out the contacts and said something funny which of course I can't remember now.

I just love that scene. Usually I get mad when changes are made in the movies but I totally love this scene & I never believed that Snape was the token bad guy anyhows but, as soon as I saw this scene where he repeatedly puts himself in a vulnerable position shielding the Trio, I just knew Snape was cool. I watched PoA again the other day. Hmm I watch it most days lol

I'm only 14 so UNFORTUNATELY, I will not be able to see Noble Son (*snorts* Didn't stop me from watching Mesmer, Snowcake, and others...) but I too heard it was great. Bottleshock seems to be getting mixed reviews, actually. I was a bit taken aback about "We're Here to Help" where AR goes to Africa, but he's always been one for human rights, so go Alan!!
LOL. I too watched that interview where Johnny said Alan must have been a singing wreck with the knife at his neck. Alan said something like, "I trust him implicitly" with this ironic smile. Gotta love Alan!

Happy birthday Alan Rickman.
I dont really do the age thing, like I dont see a number & think that # = old or young. It's about the soul & the spirit. But, if we have to do the numbers thing, when I look at people that I know that are also 62 well it makes me wonder about people that say Alan looks old. If I didnt know his age, no way would I think he's 62.
And his voice doesnt seem to age, either. It's just like magic. Like the other day I watched the Hitch hikers guide to the Galaxy again, just to listen to The Voice (which is actually the best thing about the movie lol)

I've seen Sweeney three times now. To celebrate Alan's birthday my friends and I are having a Alan movie marathon tomorrow. Squeeeee. I love being lame.
Posted by: Overcast Feb 22 2008, 10:13 PM
I missed his birthday. Well, wherever you are, Happy Birthday, Mr. Rickman. I'm going to have to watch Snowcake and The Search For John Gissing again. Two of his best movies.
Posted by: snowcake Feb 23 2008, 04:54 AM
I celebrated his birthday by being a big dork and going around telling my coworkers "it's Alan Rickman's birthday!" they were like "pat Liz on the head" yes we know, you're obsessed. LOL. I'm gonna lend Snowcake to a coworker who I think will actually appreciate it (that's a chick flick, so my guy friends won't be into it).
Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee.... Alan Rickman.... *swoons*

I have been hunting for ages to see if there are any dvds out there or decent footage of AR in Les Liaisons Dangereuses or anything else on stage. Does anyone know if he has any plans to do anymore stage work particularly in London? 62 or not get out there Alan - we are desperate to see you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't seen anything on DVD either. He's wonderful on stage and has said it's his real love. He's turned down film roles to perform in the theater instead. I haven't heard of any upcoming stage roles. He's been very busy with films lately,
Perfume, Snowcake, Sweeney Todd, Bottle Shock, Nobel Son and I'm sure I missed something besides Harry Potter.

I too was desperate for some theatre acting AR did...but unfortunately, the one I long to see the most, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, is unavailable on dvd or anything else. Since filming during the production was not allowed, barely anyone has clips of it either. BUT, you may enjoy the pictures below. Tis sad we can't enjoy his theatre productions as much...
I cannot BELIEVE that my computer crashed (all AR movies and pics and all) A DAY BEFORE HIS BIRTHDAY!! OH my gosh.
Well, belated though it is, here I am!
Happy Birthday Mr. Alan Rickman!
No matter what, age is but a number, and as
Moose_Starr said, it's the soul that counts. None of us here care how old you are, as long asyou keep being yourself and you keep on doing what you love. Happy Birthday from all of us in the Leaky Louge! I hope you're out there reading this.
Moose_Starr: I totally cracked up when you referred to Marvin as THE VOICE. I loved it!

Yay! I told everyone it was Alan Rickman's birthday and they were like *pats me on head* Ok girl, we know, you're obsessed. *SQUEEEE!*
I KNOW! That happened to me as well at school. XD At least we're spreading awareness, eh?
Here are some pics of him that I have. Sorry if there are duplicates, but I didn't see them on this thread! Am I the only one obsessed with him in the ol' 17th century look?!
Once again, sorry if these images are already up, but I DO love to see him, so I hope re-seeing any of these images waasn't too horrid. *wink* Oh, and I would suggest you stop drooling.

I have to respectfully disagree here. I've never totally figured out what a click flick is. But, I love Snow Cake, it's one of my favorite movies of all time. It has love in all its variations, love for a son, love for a stranger that dies, love for a friend, love for a lover. It has humor and tragedy, it has some breathtaking photography and dazlious scenery. It has subtlety and honesty, violence and tenderness and basically everything. And it has Alan Rickman lol.
Not everyone can or does like the same genre of movie (thankfully, or it would be a dull world) but I think this movie has universal appeal. It is written by a woman & features strong female leading characters but I dont see it as a chick flick (but, that's maybe because I dont know what one is lol)
Like if guy movies are over the top violence and cussing then, I dont like them but a friend of mine (she'sa girl lol) loves them & she insists that I watch them & I'm like, eww no thank you

I guess it depends on the person. Also it depends on whether it's a good movie or not. Snow Cake is a stellar movie with an awesome cast and amazing screenplay. Some of the violent movies have like no storyline & the acting is so cheesy, & if you take away the excessive violence and blood'n'guts & cussing, there's no substance to them.
Snow Cake has so much depth that even if someone is indifferent to certain aspects, there's still a huge amount of appeal left.
Just my two knuts ...
Oh and about Alan on stage, I so would love to see him on stage (altho the experience might be too much lol) I saw Whoopi Goldberg live & I'm a huge fan of her, too, and the experience is *so* totally different from watching a person on screen, even in a live interview there's still the barrier of the TV screen. Seeing a person live on stage is a whole other experience. I dont even know how to begin to describe it. And if I get this excited about having seen Whoopi Goldberg can you imagine how I'd be if I actually saw Alan

Well said Moose_Starr! I held off watching Snowcake because I thought it would be a bit boring. I finally bought it because I like both Alan Rickman and Sigourney Weaver and thought they would be good together. I was transfixed from the first moment on. It was an amazing film on so many levels, all of which I think you've covered in your post so I won't repeat it. I, like you, am not entirely certain what a "chick flick" is but just by the name I would imagine it would be shallow and Snowcake is certainly not that.
I watched Perfume a few days ago and I really liked it but it's sure not for the squeamish. It was a weird story but the scenery and acting were very good and of course Alan was brilliant!
Posted by: Madsdagirl Feb 23 2008, 06:12 PM
Can I really add much? Moose is a guy who knows his Rickman.
I'm someone who embraces most genres. Yes, that might mean I read 'bad' novels and watch chick flicks. But there is nothing wrong with that. Snowcake might be somewhat of a chick flick, but it's not the kind of film you should be embarrassed to watch.
I found it beautiful, heart warming, tender and an awesome Rickman fest.
Now, down to business: Sense and Sensibility, Potter, Robin Hood or Perfume?
That's what my friends are letting me choose between. I loathe Perfume so that one is most definitely out. I want to watch Sense and Sensibility again because it's my favourite and I love the line 'Give me an occupation, Miss Dashwood, or I shall run mad.'
Anyway, I actually think that's a pretty good segue- what is your favourite Alan movie?

I treated myself on this rainy Saturday to another viewing of Sense and Sensibility. In my opinion this is about the most perfect screen adaptation of any of Jane Austen's novels, which isn't hurt AT ALL by the appearance of two of the finest actors to be included in the Potter films --

http://gallery.the-leaky-cauldron.org/picture/55986
Rickman and
Thompson: how could anything be more perfect than that? Alan's Col. Brandon is the model of an Austen hero, and, as so many have noted in here, that voice!
What wouldn't I give to see him on stage! (Oh, and Emma too, for that matter!

Definately. The moment I watched Snowcake, I was captivated from beginning to end. It had so many underlying depths...my favorite scene had to be when the truck driver came over to Weaver's home to say sorry and Alan rants on about how "thick" he is. I just love that part when Alan goes temporarily mad when the truck driver says "try me". Of course, the Scrabble scene was priceless as well. LOL. "...with it's stretchy arms..."
TOUGH question. I DID love Alan in Sense and Sensibility-it was actually the first time I saw him as ALAN RICKMAN himself. I had only watched Alan in Harry Potter before and barely knew him until S&S. Colonel Brandon was wonderfully enhanced by Thompson's screen play and Rickman' acting. Frankly speaking, Jane Austen's Colonel wasn't so interesting.
Did any of you see the Peace Day ad where Alan recites "The Long War?" It is a beatiful poem (I have it memorized by heart now. *proud grin*), and the way Alan recites it was just heart wrenching. He had this far away look when reciting it...
Oh yes, and thank you for the image adjustments hagiographer13! My apologies. And yes, what WOULD we give to see Alan on stage? I don't think I could take it either. *sigh*

The Scrabble scene was great! I think Alan was wonderful when he first met "Linda". He was soaking wet, miserable and just standing in her entrance way watching her carry on. He didn't have to say a word, his facial expressions and eyes said everything you needed to know. It went from questioning to understanding and I thought that was brilliant acting. I laughed out loud when they did the, "I et a cracker", scene in the bunk beds.

And the "I have a gun, so don't touch me" line (or something like it). I fell off my own bed laughing while watching it on my laptop.

Ooh yes! The poetry! Actually, I don't think it was Shakespeare, as it? I believe it was "The Faerie Queene", by Edmund Spenser. Either way....*sigh* How old are you, if you don't mind me asking? Oh yes, it did sound great. I replayed that scene five times at least. *sheepish grin* My friends got a bit annoyed.

I mean, we WERE having an AR marathon, but I was the most obsessed there and my other friends were just aquainted with who he was (thanks to yours truly XD) and had seen and liked him in HP, so came along. They were like, "Yes, yes, Charlotte, we understand you like his quote "beautiful voice and brilliant acting," but GET GOING WITH THE MOVIE!! We still want to see Edward's proposal!!"
REALLY? I only heard him read that poem for Peace Day (The Long War), Shakespeare's sonnet number 145, I think, and the Sense and Sensibility poem. Can anyone tell me if he read any more poetry? I love Shakespeare Sonnets, so even better if Alan read them!

If you want to hear Alan's voice for hours you can get, "The Return of the Native", by Thomas Hardy, on 13 audio CDs. Alan Rickman reads the entire book. I have listened to it twice and Alan, while not Jim Dale, does a very good job.

It premiered in New York last April for a few days. All the stars were here, tickets were sold out. It will open in the U.S. this coming April. The reviews are all awesome and I can't wait until it opens.

I am very happy to mention here that

No, in my opinion it just does not work. I looked thru the Bottleshock gallery and, it just felt all wrong lol. Yes my bizarre punctuation (or lack of any punctuation) was kind of confusing lol. The first pic is .. okay. I could get accustomed to that look, if he looked like that throughout the movie. But the second pic, I dont even know what he's supposed to be looking like. It's so un-Alan to not look awesome. Even in Perfume (which I'm still digging the hole in my backyard to bury the DVD in) whereas certain other big-name actors in my opinion just looked plain ridiculous in the wig and period costume, Alan looked as though he belonged in that era. He looks graceful and gallant. I dont do the whole beard thing but, in Sherrif of Nottingham it totally works with him, he doesnt give the impression of dubious facial hair that makes you cringe.

I dont know, knowing Alan he possibly did, to get into the role. But, I think I'm in shock because I cant think of any movie where I've looked at Alan and thought *huh*
Even in a movie I dont like (Perfume) or where he plays a dislikeable character (Die Hard) I still like Alan because he looks awesome & he makes the movie what it is. Moose, I'm glad you said it because I was thinking the same thing about
Bottle Shock! There's something
wrong with the way he looks. The suit? The hair color? The awful mustache? I can't pin point it but I'm leaning towards hair color and mustache. Geesh, he's more attractive in his Snape wig.

I first saw Alan Rickman in Die Hard, the year after it came out. My mother sat me down in front of the HBO and said "You HAVE to watch this movie with me!" I was like, "Why?
